St. Louis Gueuze

St. Louis Gueuze

Bottle: Filtered
"Premium"
Ingredients: Malted barley, unmalted wheat and plenty of (mature) hops. Matured in oak barrels.
This gueuze is obtained by mixing ('versnijden'), young and old lambiek. It achieves a beautiful balance between sweet, sour and slightly bitter, which makes it an ideal thirst quencher on hot and humid summer days. It is only mildly sour with touches of citrus, strawberry and caramelised grains.

Premium Gueuze is the flagship brew of the St. Louis range and one of the jewels in the crown of Castle Brewery Van Honsebrouck. This was by no means certain when Luc Van Honsebrouck decided, a few decennia ago, to start gueuze production in West Flanders.

Memorably, de Gueuze and Kriek Saint Louis were launched in 1958 which was the year when Brussels hosted the World Exhibition. This beer originally had an alcohol percentage of 5% ABV.

2.8 250 ml bottle St. Louis Premium Geuze. Bärnstensfärgad mot brun öl med smutsvitt skum. Lätt vinägersyrlighet, trä, fruktsötma och fruktsyrlighet. Ingen Gueuze att minnas.
2.5 Weinig bruis, lichte nasmaak.
2.8 375 ml bottle from Tesco, bb 06/08/2021. Dark amber, crystal clear, white head, not bad lacing. Nose - funk. Taste - sweetish, not much else. Prickly carbo saves the day. Meh anyway.
3.4 Mikołaj Rutkowski is drinking a St. Louis Premium Gueuze by Brouwerij Van Honsebrouck
3.5 Quickly dissipating white foam and amber body. Aroma of malts and barnyard. Sweet with a nice sourness.
3.5 Clean, amber colored and filtered and somewhat malt forward gueze. the sourness is medium-low, but it is a nice touch. not the most flavourful for the style, but nothing off. online belgian beer factory bottle.
2.4 Fles.
2.3 Dark amber color with medium white head. Aroma: sweet malt Taste: too sweet
2.6 Slightly hazy. Dark golden colour. Thin head. Aroma is vaguely vinegary. Taste is super sweet candies
2.4 250 ml bottle as St. Louis Premium Geuze, best before 08.2017. Clear amber coloured, small head. Apple, tart, some light vinegar notes, wood, cork, sweeteners. Light sourness and sweetness. Light bodied, lively carbonated, dry sweet finish. Not good.
3.0 From Cervezasbelgas, Almuñecar. In Teku glass. At lunch, with macarroni bechamel + merluza. Soft funkness with a smooth sweet caramelly background. Odd profile for a lambic but easy for introduction to sourness
Drogig, fruit, kers, lichte zuurtonen. (3-2014).
2.3 Pours red/amber with a thin white head that dilapidates quickly. Intense fruity aroma. Taste is less exciting. Hints of sour flavours, the typical flavours of fermentation are absent. Instead there are some fruity notes, and even sugar. Soapy at times, no match to a real Gueuze.
2.8 Amber colour with thin head. Aroma has a mix of some sweet malt, vinegar and floral honey. Flavour is quite sweet. Not awful but misses some sharpness and dryness.
3.2 [as St. Louis Premium Gueuze] Bottiglia.
2.2 (bottle) slightly opalescent golden-amber colour with a frothy off-white head. aroma of apple juice and prunes, with lots of candy sugar, some earth, dusty wheat and honey. flavour is heavy raisin bread and fudge, very sweet and metallic, with some heavy notes of yeast and an empty apple juice finish. light- to medium-bodied with average carbonation.
3.2 Clear amber. Aroma is belgian funk grapes some wood. Taste is sweet and watery a bit artificial. Quite much lemonade. Is this a faro gueuze???
2.4 Bottle. Hazy orange color with white head. Aroma is candied sugar, wood, horseblanket. Taste is the same, with some Haribo candied apple rings. Oily mouthfeel with medium carbonation. Drinkable, but not a proper Geuze.
2.7 250 ml bottle. Pours with a hazy, dark amber color and a small white head. Nose is sweet apples, some sour-metallics. Taste is rather sweet, nice carbonation, slightly bitter finish. Quite simple.
2.8 bottiglia 25 cl, color ambrato carico torbido, schiuma beige evanescente, al naso aceto legno, in bocca succo di mela e lieve aceto, corpo leggero, carbonatazione piatta, acidula, molto doce. La mia prima Lambic, non saprei giudicare. 26.01.18
2.8 Bottle at delirium cafe, amsterdam. Deep golden color, white head. Aroma has some sour notes, peach, some stables. Sweet malty body, some corn notes, some tart notes.
2.6 Green Bottle at Pater Marcus. Wrong beer - not what I ordered. Fond Tradition is not Premium Gueuze. Pale sour ale with oily surface and a thin rim. Scent is medium dense notes of lambic ale. Quite green apple. Taste is soft, tangy, mild sour and not too sweet or sour. Cold. Consistent in warmth and quite mild. Good.
