St. Paul Double

St. Paul Double

The St. Paul Double is a strong, dark abbey beer with secondary fermentation in the bottle. Thanks to the dryhopping technique, which adds hops after fermentation, it has a rich and distinct sweet aroma of roasted malt. Full-bodied and a rich and complex flavour in a combination of sweet and bitter. In addition, the double has a soft, subtle aftertaste.

3.7 Pours dark ruby with a decent tan head. Aroma is roasted malt and tobacco. Taste is slightly sweet, and moderately tart. There are notes of cherries, candy, caramel, some tobacco and roasted malt. Light bodied with plenty of carbonation. A bit of complexity, but flavours are fairly mild. Makes for a tasty, sessionable 7%.
3.9 Bottle. Opaque dark brown. One finger tall creamy beige head. Stays. Nose: rich malts revealing caramel, toast, toffee. Dried fruit, chocolate, nuts. A tiny bit bloody being cold. As the ale gets warmer this note fades out. Medium body. Lively carbo. Moderately sweet taste. Tastes pretty similar to how it smells. Well-tasting. Yeasty spice and some hops at finish. Really good. Just let it warm.
3.5 Robe brune, fine mousse, peu persistante.

T: malt, chocolate, coffee, dark fruits, dark cherries, iron, molasses, herbal, medium to full body, low to medium carbonation, quite nice beer for the style, 0,33l bottle from Carrefour market - Saint-Michel @ Etterbeek, Brussels.
3.7 Tummanruskea olut, hieman punertavaa mukana. Hiivapartikkeleja reilusti, leijailevat oluessa. Vaahto hyvin vaalean ruskea.

2.7 330 ml bottle at Central Bierhaus. Clear deep ruby mahogany with a thin tan head. Tight nose with some tangy fruitiness, lightly metallic, a little bread crust, faint dark dried fruit. Medium+ body with full, velvety carbonation. A like more than the nose, but still a restrained beer, a little dark dried fruit and brown sugar, a little bright fruitiness, light esters; fairly dry with low bitterness and a kinda vague malty finish. Weak.
4.5 Bottle at beerbistro. Raisins and caramel in the aroma and taste. Lovely lacing. Dryish finish.

3.4 Dark brown colour, with red relections to the light. Small off white head taht leaves ring and lace. Aroma of dark fruits, raisins, cloves, coriander,, chocolate. Medium body and carbonation, I would like a thicker palate on this one. Taste of cloves, raisins, chocolate, sweet but a touch of bitterness. Good, but it could be a bit soft.

3.5 0,33L bottle (from beerExpress, Tallinn). Pours dark brown with beige-light brown head. The head stays. Aroma is sweet, malt, burnt sugar, dark fruits. Flavor follows the nose. Feels rather light for the ABV. Overall: not very complex, but well-made and easy to drink.
