3.4 Poured from a 13 year old bottle, thanks to Jeremy. Toast, malty, caramel, bready, fig, toffee, oxidized. Had a fresh bottle at the same time. The fresh bottle had skunky notes, malty, pilsner malt. I prefer the aged bottle.
2.8 13 year-old bottle consumed in 2013. :). Brown, clear, thin beige head. Bready malt, light chocolate, some figs. Flavor of bready malt, nutty notes, dark fruit, quite oxidized though (wet cardboard) as you'd expect. Not bad for 13 year old St.Pauli Girl. ---Fresh bottle: Same appearance. Aroma of pilsner malt, slight chocolate. Flavor is grainy. slight chocolate. little else.
2.1 Cold and served in a bottle, so not awful. But very light and didn’t get the malty tasted as advertised.
1.9 Looks could be better clean crisp finish but needs stronger flavor overall not a bad beer but its last on my list of desireable beers i will not touch a heineken, awful stuff
2.6 Pours clear, dark brown with a chunky, beige head. Malt aroma, dark bread....a hint of brownies. Taste is roasted grain, malt, ..again, a little chocolate. Quite a bit of corn notes. The dusty-grainy-ness detracts quite a bit. Not awful, a bit better than regular St. PG.
2.0 Bottle into glass, dark brown clear pour, fast disapating white head..malty aroma, taste is just a basic dark, nothing special, wont do again
4.0 Appearance is dark amber with garnet highlights. Nice moussy tan head that lingers throughout the life of the beer. Aroma is mostly Munich malt: toasty and biscuity, as it should be. Slight spice from noble hops. No off smells. Getting into the flavor, simply deepens the malt profile showcase, while adding a bit of alcoholic warmth. The mouthfeel is medium bodied and nicely spiced on the tip of the tongue. Overall, a solid example of a Munich dunkel.
1.1 Bottle. This is quite possibly the worst Dunkel on the planet...at tleast that I have come across thus far.
2.3 Deep brown, high clarity, with a thin beige head. Aromas of grass, yeasty bread, and alcohol. Flavor is lightly bitter. Light body with lots of carbonation.
2.0 I had this beer at a party last night and it was thoroughly drinkable and a way better option than the original St Pauli or Bud also in the cooler. Pretty dull stuff though.
2.4 Creamy and brown. Not bad, very similar to Leinenkugel's. Much better than regular St. Pauli. Drinkable.
2.5 When I was a kid, this was one of the few beers my dad bought. Louisiana has never been a destination for beer, but aside from Abita brewery, there were really no other options for him in the 80s. The fact that he doesn’t drink it anymore now that he has options probably says as much about this beer as anything. Calling it a "dunkel" is strange, it lacks almost all of its characteristics short of color. Easily drinkable, a hint of caramel, but mostly just bready water.
2.8 Bottle into a goblet. Pour is a nice dark brown black with a fine head. Aroma is a nice roasted malt. Taste is a caramelized malt. Finish is clean. A very nice $30 case of beer.
2.7 Bottle shared by Dogbrick at Septoberfest V: Septoberfest Rises on 9/29/12. Clear brown pour with a medium off-white head. Skunky aroma with malt, caramel and slight hop notes. Malty flavor with slight hops and a thin finish.
2.5 Bottle to pint. Looks fine; like a macro dunkel. Smells bitter and skunky like the regular St. Pauli Girl, but with a detracting maltiness. Tastes like it smells with an average (at best) mouthfeel. Meh.
2.6 Its definitely drinkable, starts off tasting good but then gets bitter/sour but it’s not too bad.
0.6 Sweet metallic aroma. Very strong metallic flavour. Almost nothing else in there. Pretty horrible.
2.1 Pours a very dark amber with a very small head. I get a faint whiff of stale cigarette on this. Aside from that, it’s a fairly unremarkable drink.
2.5 This dunkel has the same heavy skunk of the St. Pauli pils, and it is somewhat less appealing here as it contrasts with the toast and caramel scents of the dark malt. Almost clear medium brown. Taste of smoke and wet cardboard - more like an Irish ale than dunkel. moderately heavier and thicker than an average lager. I have a lot to say about St. Pauli Girl, but that will wait till I get around to the pils.
1.1 Amber-ruby color with beige head. Puts off no scent whatsoever other than fresh water. Taste upfront is abscent, slightly bitter on the way down. Resembles that of toasted cereal or oats. Somewhat high and priclky on the carbonation, but not extreme. Overall, it doesn’t beg to be paired with anything substantial, and it fails to separate itself in terms of taste from anything other than toasted oats in a carbonated pool of water. If you are in it scrictly for the alcohol, there are much cheaper alternatives. If you are in it for the flavor you’re just going to have to go somewhere else.
1.6 Sampled from a 12 oz green bottle this beer poured a dark brown color with ruby highlights and a large soapy tan head that lingered and left decent lacing. The aroma was skunky, vegetal and sour. The flavor was bitter, vegetal, sour and had notes of malted milk, cardboard and muddy water. Short finish. Light to medium body. Yuck.
2.3 Bottle. Dark amber, small and fully diminishing head. Light to moderate malty and sweetish aroma, some caramel and light roasted malt, cardboad. Moderate, malty and sweetish flavor, some caramel and light roasted malt. Finish is short to average, malty and sweetish, light caramel and roasted malt, faint hoppyness. Caramel sweetish dunkel - really nothing special.
2.6 Dark brown/black color; Medium body; Aroma of sweet toasted malt, & caramel; Flavor of roasted malt, caramel, and some hops; Finish is slightly bitter
2.5 12 oz bottle pours brown with a off white head. Aroma of malt, nuts and a bit of yeast. Taste was much the same.
1.9 Pours the color of cola. Smells like sweet malts - sweetness on the palate as well. Reminiscent of flat cola. No thanks.
2.0 A disappointing dunkel. Kind of off aroma. Metallic watery taste, sweet, but strange. Not great.
2.7 Poured into a pint glass. A caramel color with a finger and half of head that held well. Smells metallic and bready. Light bitter at first, metallic in the middle and stronger bitterness at the end. It has the faintest roasted malt flavor too. Smooth, almost creamy texture. Low carbonation and medium body. Not great, not bad.
2.7 Bought at Liquid Town in Calallen, Texas cheaply for for 7.29 a six.....We’ze celebrating my budz new job.....His Choice.....Poured a nice off white frothy head little on the brown sugary side colour.....Aroma was of roasted malts/grains sweet and sugary again.....Nice light mouthfeel hinting at lots of flavour from the roasted malts/grains yet goes down easliy and effortlessly....seems a great accompaniment with food and snacks....my bud says good with Brats....either way if finishes with a tad bit of hoppy bite that really balances the sugars well.......Cheers....... Caveat: my buddy rated this beer I commented on this beer......
2.7 An aorma of oxidation light roasty malt. A brown pour with hints of red and a frothy off white head and lace. Very light sweet maltiness followed by a hinto breadiness and a light earthy hop bitter. Thin watery and a tad fizzy.
2.2 I like the dark color. This beer was gold medal winner at American tasting institute as best full calorie German dark. So I expected more. Maybe I got a skunky beer. I would try it again.
