St. Peter's Gatekeeper Golden Ale (Bottle)

St. Peter's Gatekeeper Golden Ale (Bottle)

Available brewery conditioned and cold filtered in 500ml bottles. Originally named Golden Ale, but rebadged to Gatekeeper Golden Ale in 2019.

"English Halcyon malts are used together with lager malts. Golding hops provide the bitterness and aroma. The result is a highly distinctive light, golden ale similar in character to a full bodied Czech lager."

3.3 Cool large medicine shaped bottle. Pours gold, small white head, some retention and lacing. Aroma of biscuit malts and caramel. Taste is caramel malts, honey but a little one dimensional even by golden ale standards. Body has reasonable smoothness and soft carbonation. Finish has a nice building bitterness. Lacks a bit of flavour but there are good elements here.
3.0 Bottle, 0.50l. Aroma is caramelly, floral, mild fruity and grassy. Pours clear golden color with thin soapy white head and average sparkling appearance. Taste starts with medium sweet caramel, following is grassy and herbal with apple note, mouthfeel is smooth, while finish is heavy bitter. Medium body, oily texture and average carbonation in palate. Half way to heaven...
2.6 Aromas- Sweet of straw and pale malts with sleet notes of buttery biscuits and custard creams. A light touch of caramel and cream. Appearance- Clear golden colour with medium-strong foam. Palate- Medium to light body with a thin texture leaving a light finish. Taste- Initially, sweet of pale malts followed by bitter grassy and herbal hops. Overall- Started off good with aromas and appearance. However, the palate and the taste is very much of a cheap pale lager just more bitter.
2.9 Decent bitter with slight caramel taste/aroma, quite nice
3.7 0.5l bottle. Dark golden color with very nice frothy beige head. Aroma of malt, caramel, cooked vegetables and grass. Taste is bitter and sweet.
3.1 I'm fairly sure this 500ml bottle of Gatekeeper is the same as the Golden Ale which I had more than 10 years ago, both from Waitrose. A decent enough golden ale with caramel & sweet malts.
3.1 Bottled, 500ml flask style from Morrison's in Banbury, Oxon. Gold with white head. Sweet malty flavours from the start, caramel along with a slight chemical note. There are sweet cereals, light boiled vegetable hints. Late bitterness. It's okay. Earlier Rating: 10/6/2005 Total Score: 2.2 Bottled, 500ml. Pale gold with virtually no head. Tart acidic thin flavour, no body or condition. Resinous finish with a saccharine sweetness. Not very keen on this. Earlier Rating: 10/3/2004 Total Score: 3.4 Cask Conditioned at The Saye & Sele Arms, Broughton, Oxon. Bronze golden beer with thin head. Heavy sugary beer though smooth and flavoursome. Honey coated fruity malty beerbut lacking bitterness or hop finish.
2.5 Pours a golden colour ale with a white head Notes of citrus fruits and berries and citrus fruits Cask beer found at Wetherspoons in bury ST Edmunds
2.4 All bottle, no flavour as per usual. Dour mineral and caramel aroma/flavour of a kind considered beery and flavoursome in the early 1990s. Bronze, full bodied and lacy as. There is a hint of nettle-like hedge and cooked greens as it heats. Cereal, honey, big dumb bland bitterness. Slick like liquid sugar has been injected. Horrid. Earlier Rating: 4/25/2009 Total Score: 2.6 Hinckley Spoons. Haloed orange amber, peardrop aroma. Peach and cherry fruit, caramelised barley sweet, more peardrop, honey. Barley squash with a peardrop dissolved in it. Clean, slight, unhopped, deathly dull..
2.8 Brilliant white rocky head left s spotty cover on a translucent pale amber still body. 0ale malt & nutty aroma. Medium bodied, smooth on the tongue & prickly down the throat. Malt, nutty & bitter tastes with long tangy fruity finish. Drinkable

2.2 500ml bottle from Tesco, Watford and drunk on 06/03/2006. Clear pale golden. A weird herbal, slightly chemical, or savoury aroma of this one that translates to the flavour and with a fairly thin body.
3.2 500ml Bottle from Morrisons, Birtley, Gateshead. Golden coloured with a thin white head. It has malty and toffee flavours with a woody and peppery hop finish. Pretty good. Earlier Rating: 12/9/2017 Total Score: 3 Bottles from B&M, Team Valley, Gateshead and Morrisons, Birtley, Gateshead. Bright golden coloured with a thin white head. It has a grassy, caramel and burnt toffee flavour with earthy notes and warming fruit on the smooth finish. Good.
3.0 Dość obfita, średnio oczkowa, całkiem trwała piana. Złota, klarowna barwa. W aromacie słód, morele, toffi i odrobina ziół. W smaku wytrawne, słodowe, trochę karmelu, trochę suszonych/kandyzowanych owoców, wysoka, ziołowo herbaciana goryczka. Wysycenie średnie, szorstkie, trochę wodniste w odbiorze. Takie piwo codzienne, skrzyżowanie English Bitter z Belgian Ale moim zdaniem...

3.1 [50cl bottle from Morrisons, Bracknell.] A bright amber pour with a loose cream head; stewed malt aroma; dry caramel taste with a grassy bitterness and a touch of spice to finish. 2.8 Pale gold in colour, thin white head, faint lemony aroma. More hoppy in flavour than the aroma suggests - yeasty, with an after effect of biscuity malt and lingering bitterness. Attractive and distinctively shaped bottle - conjures up the idea of an old world medicine.
4.3 Tasted this golden ale / sealed bottle was found after 10yr from expired/ sweet taste with great aftertaste of malt, great alcohol.
3.5 Bottle from Lunardi’s in San Jose, CA. Aroma is sweet fruity malt, lemon, light herbs. Taste is light lemon, herbal bitterness. A surprisingly clean and refreshing English ale that would pair nicely with grilled chicken.
