St. Peter's Old Style Porter

St. Peter's Old Style Porter

Cask: Regular. Also available brewery conditioned and cold filtered in 500ml bottles.

Hops: Challenger and Goldings.

This fine beer is a blend of a mature old ale with a younger light beer - just as a true Porter should be. The marriage produces an extremely characterful brew which is dark in colour and complex in taste.

3.6 50cl bottle from Ocado, enjoyed in a stemmed tulip glass on 05-Apr'2021. Dark brown with a dense beige coloured head. Aroma of cocao nibs, dark fruit and spices. Medium body and carbonation. Taste of chocolate, raisins, white rum, liquorice and brown sugar. Light bitterness. A rich but tasty porter.
3.4 50cl bottle from online store. Pours an almost black, dark clear brown with some red reflections under light - head is a creamy off white. Nice light aromas of roasted malt, licorice, herbs, raisins, dark fruits, coffee. Light bodied and easy to drink. Taste follows the aroma with quite the same flavours without being too strong tasting, is very drinkable and more sweet than it is bitter. Also chocolate, coffee taste. Slightly smoky tasting, also on the nose. Finish is quite a bit spicy and kind of dry with but again not much bitter. Would get it again good enough and makes you want to drink more.
3.3 20/2/2021. Bottle shared at the third Ipswich Lockdown 3.0 virtual bottle share. "Suffolk vs Norfolk". Bought at the brewery. Pours dark brown with a small frothy beige head. Aroma of milk chocolate, fruit cake, roasted malt, dark fruits, touch of smoke. Medium sweetness, light bitterness. Moderate body, average carbonation. Nutty chocolate finish.
3.0 Old rating from 2009 - 500ml bottle, pours dark brown with beige foam. Aromas & tastes of coffee, chocolate, liquorice, raisins, dark fruits & roast malt. Medium body. Dry mildly bitter finish. Enjoyable
3.1 Dark almost black ruby colour, small tan head. Toasted beans and bread aroma, very simple and subtle. Bitter taste of coffee beans, dark chocolate and malt. Bitter aftertaste, medium body, a bit of astringency. Nice and classic porter.
3.8 bottiglia 50 cl, schiuma cappuccino media grana persistente, colore marrone intenso, al naso intenso caffè della moka malto tostato cioccolato al latte vaniglia leggero rum, in bocca ancora caffè cioccolato fondente malto tostato, corpo leggero, watery, carbonazione moderata, amaro moderato lungo nel finale. Pulita, facile da bere. Una vera Porter. Old-stile Porter! Buona c. Beer-shop.it 18.12.20
3.4 Pint enjoyed in July 2004. Dark brown porter. Roast chocolate aroma and taste. This was decent stuff.
4.0 Aroma : Deeply roasted chocolate maltiness, hints of coffee, liquorice and a little smoke, with a pronounced traditional porter slighty stale earthiness. Simply smells the part. Taste : As aroma. Medium bodied. Moderate to strong roasty bitterness throughout. Quite dry with a soft spicy/smoky finish. Excellent
3.6 Bottle from Beers Of Europe. Appearance - very close to opaque black but with red chinks. Off white, almost fawn head. Nose - caramel and honeycomb. Chocolate and shortbread. Taste - general feeling of caramel shortbread, with now a smoky edge. Palate - medium bodied, crunchy texture. Dry, crunchy finish. Overall - enjoyed this one.
3.5 color: negro con destellos rubí. espuma fina blanca y persistencia media olor: malta tostada, chocolate y café sabor: maltoso con amargor muy sutil, ligera y muy facil de beber.
3.5 Pours hazy black with ruby red hues. No head to speak of. Light carbonation. Malt, bread, wheat, raisin, currants, caramel, rum, lightly sour. Very interesting first impression: sour, sweet, malty, bitter all at once. Dry. Turns into rum, malt, bread, yeast. Strong sweet finish, very dry, light smokiness.
3.2 Bevuta in bottiglia (forma particolare). Buona porter. Forse manca un po' di corpo. Mi aspettavo di meglio.
3.3 Tap at FOB, Rimini, Italy. Pours black with very fine brown foam. Aroma is coffee, licorice, molasses. Body is kind of on the thin side, with limited carbonation. Taste is medium sweet, with moderate bitterness/roastiness. Final is average.
3.3 500 ml bottle poured into a pint glass, pours black with small beige head which dissipates quickly. Aroma of coffee, roasted malt. Taste coffee, dark fruit, licorice, smoke, full body, bitter end. Very nice.
3.4 500ml bottle from Metro, drunk at home on a rainy August evening. Pours opaque dark brown, a brief off-white head, medium lacing, but no visible rising carbonation. Aromas of toast, roast and burnt caramel with hints of bitter dark chocolate. In the mouth, dry roast bitterness from the start, spicy toast, more burnt caramel, pepper, thin to medium texture before a dry finish. Almost enough roast dryness to be a stout. Gets better as you drink it.
4.3 Excelente sabor para stout, suave, ligera, buena espuma.
3.9 Bottle @Birrifugio Trastevere (Rome). Corpo leggero, carbonazione medio-leggera. Splendida, delicata, garbata, gentile.
3.0 The color is dark ruby. The aroma of chocolate, dried fruits (raisins) The taste. A little roasted coffee malt with cream. in the aftertaste of wood and bitterness.
3.6 Bottle at home this is what I think an old school Porter might taste like. So full marks on that score liquorice root coffee dark fruits
4.5 Великолепный портер
3.8 Wypite lane 0,33 litra w Cesarska. Barwa czarna, pod światło ciemno-rubinowa, klarowna. Piana jasno-beżowa, nasycona nitro z pompy, dzięki temu wysoka i bardzo trwała. Aromat umiarkowanie palony, z akcentami kakao i kawy. W smaku za to naprawdę wyraziste, mocno palone, z konkretnymi nutami kawy. Solidna pozycja.
4.3 Znakomity porter, jeden z najlepszych jakie piłem. Kakao, czekolada, paloność w aromacie , kwaskowo-słodowy (palony) smak plus kakao znów, finisz goryczkowy wyraźnie. Bardzo wyraziste i pijalne. Super!
3.4 Very decent, with a nice coffee aroma and plenty of bitterness. The finish is just slightly watery - but that doesn't really marr the experience much. Quaffability compensates for the 'flaw'.
3.4 50 cl. bottle. A dark brown coloured beer with a beige head, Aroma and flavour of malt, caramel, chocolate, coffee and wit a dry roasted finish.
3.8 Bottle from Eebria OOD mystery box. Nice boatil! Nice cap. Light brownish black with very little off-white head. Looks a little like Coke really. Roasted malt aroma. Light roasty malt with a hint of coffee. A drinkable inoffensive porter.
3.4 Very nice porter....easy to drink

3.5 Pours dark brown, almost pitch black, topped with a tiny beige head, not so lasting. Gentler malty nose, some chocolate and a tad roasty. Medium bitterness with medium rossty feel. Medium aftertaste, a bit roasty. Medium lighter body. Ok drinkable.
