3.1 From bottle, poured dark black with slight off white head. Very aromatic filed with pumpkin spices. Nice malty flavor infused with cinnamon, ginger and brown sugar. Finishes with a slight bitterness.
2.6 Bottle PKG ON 09/11/14. Nose is heavy pumpkin pie spice with a little earthy malt but really only a little. Deep red-brown pour, not quite enough to hit critical mass and appear black in the glass, also a foamy tan head. Taste medium bitter (!) with earth and a little vegetal matter, light spicing but some astringency. Thankfully not heavy on clove and cinnamon (this one’s basically all nutmeg with a little allspice), the dark and roasty porter can shine through, unfortunately it’s not a great one.
2.8 On tap at Blend. Taste: Some pumpkin, but mostly a weak porter. Adhy aftertaste. Appearance: datk black pour, no head.
3.5 Black pour from bottle. Off white head. Spicy cinnamon sugary aroma. Sweet and candy like. Bitter aftertaste. Pumpkin beer at its best in this porter
2.6 Bottle. Pours a deep brown color with off white head. A lot of pumpkin pie spices, cinnamon, brown sugar, malty aromas. Pumpkin, a lot of spices, slight roasty flavors. Pretty heavily spiced pumpkin beer. Not digging this one to much.
2.5 12 oz bottle. (Martin's) Winchester, VA. Dark reddish brown colour with a tiny tan head. Strong aroma of spices, sweetness, malt, Coke, vegetables and some candies in the aroma. The flavour is... very bad... with spices, Dr Pepper, Coke, sweetness, gingerbread, mild roasty notes and some hops. Unbalanced and unpleasant.
2.3 One of the worst porters Ive ever had. So thin, watery even. Coffee, pumpkin pie spices in aroma and taste, but not in unison. Bleh.
2.6 bottled - tastes and smells like a cross between a pumpkin beer and a porter - hence the name I guess. Not bad and not great. Drinkable. Nice color and mouthfeel.
2.9 Not great. Seems like a porter base would pair well with the pumpkin- but in this case it was decent idea, poor execution. Pours a transparent brown- body too thin. Pumpkin spices seem overly prevalent with little malt/hop backbone. Watered down. Balance is off. Just Meh.
3.1 Draught. This is a middling brew without a whole lot going for it. The pumpkin flavor tastes over wrought.
2.8 Dark pour with minimalish but splashy head. Smell is pumpkin spice, little bit of roast. Taste is really bland with some light pumpkin flavors and a weakish porter base.
2.6 12 ounce bottle - $1.99 at Total Wine & More in Kennesaw, Georgia. Appearance: Pours a very dark brown body with a slim, shmeer of light beige foam. Smell: Nominal notes, a bit bland, really, barely hinting at roast and toast and failing to deliver any expected pumpkin or spicing. Taste: Washed out, watery roast in the fore with little in the way of supporting elements like chocolate, caramel or coffee accents. Minimal pumpkin flavor, restrained spice. Very, very low hop flavor, bitterness. Quietly, unashamedly closes out dry with the same simple roastiness. Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Medium carbonation. Overall: Disappointing. Falls short at being a porter and at being a pumpkin-anything, leaving you with an essentially characterless beer that leaves you scratching your head wondering as to whether or not this was the intended final beer.
1.7 Pours a deep dark brown with a thin ran head. Not much of an aroma. Taste is bitter. Nice roast to it. Similar to a stout. A hint of spice. A little watery.
4.0 Pours a translucent dark mahogany with a thin khaki head. Aroma is spicy with pumpkin and nutmeg. Mild carbonation in the mouth. Has a nice pumpkin and spice taste. This is real good.
3.1 12oz bottle, free, birthday party, thanks Kennon. Pours deep red brown with medium, thick beige head. Good lace. Nose is metallic, doggy, underneath is excellent allspice and nutmeg medley, melted chocolate truffle. Taste is lighter, slightly metallic, quite earthy, soil, quite bitter. No sugar, low spice, not too dusty. Thinner.
2.3 This is a weak pumpkin beer. There really isn’t much positive to say about this one. Very average
3.0 OK, I really want to like this beer. Its from Virginia, it looks great, it pours great, but it just isn’t as delicious as the aroma and appearance indicate. While the front end of the taste is pleasant with decent balance between roasted malt, spices, a hint of pumpkin, and hop flavors, this quickly fades and falls into a flat mid-palate and a mediocre or unpleasant aftertaste.
2.8 I remember this beer being better a few years back. Has some good flavors but has a finish that reminds me of mass produced craft beer (I call it the saranac taste)
3.0 Atlanta, Ga. - Hop City - 12 oz bottl. Dark copper pour, light off-white head. Strong spicy aroma with clove and allspice. Spicy flavor with some pumpkin spice, cloves and some ripening vegetable notes cloves. Thick enough mouthfeel. Decent.
2.9 Big fluffy tan head on a cola brown beer. Bad label. Standard 12 oz longneck. Allspice aroma over dark malt. Dry, tangy, coffee, spicy. Slightly roasted, some meaty notes. Loses carbonation. Didn’t love this one. Thanks to PorterPounder.
3.4 12oz bottle. Pours a deep red, almost black. No head. Aroma is spicy and chocolatey. Flavors are rich and complex. A little too much tang to the finish that detracts.
3.1 Poured a deep brown with a light brown head which disappeared quickly......aroma of nutmeg.....taste is the smokey porter overpowering most else, with a slight touch of the spices, especially nutmeg coming through.
2.8 Transfer from BA review on 9-11-12- Poured from bottle into pint glass Appearance – Poured a deeper brown color with a big tan head. The head had decent retention fading over time to give only a lighter amount of lacing. Smell – The aroma is heavy of a sweet pumpkin smell. Mixed with the pumpkin is the presence of some chocolate, roasted malt and a little bit of nutmeg and allspice. Taste – The taste begins of roasted malt with a light hint of chocolate. A big pumpkin flavor hits the tongue immediately after the initial taste. It doesn’t combine with the roasted and chocolate flavors very well and when mixed with a light spice of cinnamon, nutmeg and allspice the flavors really don’t meld. In the end a somewhat rotten roasted pumpkin flavor is left to linger on the tongue. Mouthfeel- The body of the beer was on the thinner side with a carbonation level that was rather average. Overall – A beer I certainly won’t go to again. The flavors had no compatibility/melding in this brew and resulted it too off a flavor.
2.9 Rated from notes taken 15 Sep 2011 -- Porter kinda dominates any pumpkin flavor. The pumpkin parts are too subtle in my opinion.
3.0 Bottle. Dark cola pour with some mocha head. Burnt soy sauce, licorice, dark roast, caramel, tire, pumpkin and spice. The aroma is a bit too much for me. Good carbonation in a medium and creamy body.
3.2 Draught. Pours dark with mild head. Cinammon cloves etc. Malts etc. Decent unspectacular
2.3 From a bottle. Pours dark brown with almost no head or lacing. Smells of pumpkin and spice, but the flavor profile doesn't work that well for me... Meh.
3.3 Pours cola brown with a creamy off-white head. Aroma of cinnamon, pumpkin, and roasted malt. Cinnamon flavor upfront with pumpkin, chocolate, and hint of roasted malt flavor. Creamy body and surprisingly good lacing.
2.8 Poured from 12 oz. bottle at Quarry House Tavern in Silver Spring, MD. Very dark chestnut brown with a 2-finger tan head and good lacing. Aroma of nutmeg, cinnamon, chocolate, roasted malt and nuts. Taste of heavy cinnamon, roasted malt, nutmeg and brown sugar. The pie spices and malt are there, but taste "thin" and do not seem to play well together. Way too much cinnamon in there. Medium/light body and medium/low carbonization.
2.0 Bottle thanks to Dmac. Pours out a dark brown color with a small off white head. Aroma is of enchilada sauce, strange spices, and caramel. Taste is equally as odd as the aroma, vegetables, light chocolate, some pumpkin notes, burnt chocolate, some more odd spices. Very strange.
