Steamworks Conductor Double IPA

Steamworks Conductor Double IPA

Hop on board and experience three "All American" hop varieties; Warrior, Tomahawk and Simcoe. which the brewers have worked into this Imperial India Pale Ale. The brewers focused in on the key attributes of each hop for the best possible interplay of aromatics and bitterness with the malt extraction. The result is a floral, citrus nose, bold bitterness and a hint of sweetness. Once again the Steam Team is on time and on track.

3.5 Pours hazy orange out of the bottle, white head. Aroma has notes of grapefruit, candied citrus, touch of pine, and some caramel. Taste is sweet grapefruit, candied orange, pine, caramel, and a half bitter half sweet finish. Not bad, a bit on the sweet side.
3.4 Review from notes. Drank this about a week ago when BA was down. Poured into a pint glass. 4.5 A: Semi-clear medium orange color. Two fingers of sticky creamy off white head. Above average retention and tons of lacing. 3.5 S: Surprisingly, malts dominate the show here. Somewhat bready with lots of caramel sweetness. Darker fruits such as raisin and plum. Hops are mainly herbal in nature. 4.0 T: This, as I expected from the nose, is a barleywine-esque DIPA rather than a balls to the walls hop bomb. Caramel malts dominate and lend a healthy sweetness. I’m picking up raisin again, but not the other stuff. Alcoholic tinge on every sip. Not too complex, but tasty nonetheless. Citrusy hop flavor. 3.5 M: Heavy body. Good carbonation. Creamy as well, but a bit cloying. 4.0 D: Good all around malty DIPA. Serving type: bottle Reviewed on: 11-03-2009 02:13:16
3.7 Bottle best by 7/2009: Very oaky overripe whole orange nose. Shimmering copper, thin head. Malty and woody. Moss, dirt, and overripe oranges are prevalent. Not super bitter, but very earthy. Alcohol burn is tasteful and appropriate. Pretty nice.
3.8 Bottled. The aroma has citrus, some pine, little malt. Hazy, orange coloured beer with an off-white head. The taste is a bit sweet, quite bitter and harsh. Starts with hop juice, ends a bit more dry. Hops have grapefruits, melons, grass and some pine. good one.
3.7 Bottle from Beers of Europe @ kloneo. Hazy orange colour, white head. Aroma is hoppy with a bit of pine. Flavorur is hoppy, pine, slight malted, grapefruit, sour fruits, little alcohol burn. Fairly bitter finish.
3.8 Poured into a snifter. Color is of a slightly opaque amber with a lot of orange hues. Off-white head on top, rather low in height. Retention level holds up nicely, with a good amount of lacing. Aromas of floral and citrus hops, with a nice sweetness from the malts. Nice hops flavors, I pick up a lot of Warrior and Simcoe hop flavors with a nice solid citrus note. Good malt backbone on this, but a little light. Full bodied brew with this one. Very crisp and clean Imperial IPA. Good flavors, but I can see how the ABV(9.24%) could be a bit much in a bomber.
3.8 Bottled. Hazy orange golden color, short head. Aroma of strong harsh hops, quite sharp. pine, grapefruit. Bitterness is on the contrary pretty soft, especially compared to the more harsh aroma. I was in the mood for such a DIPA, so quite nice.
3.6 Orange colored brew. Citrus, floral hops in the aroma. Flavor has floral hops, pine, citrus. Nice strong hops.
3.8 22 oz bomber. Pours a slightly cloudy coppery amber with a medium sized off white head. Aroma of caramel and light pine. Taste is hoppy with hints of pine resin and caramel.
3.3 Draught. Orange and brown with white head. Aroma is muffled by creamier head but consists of citrus fruits and light candy sweetness from bigger malt background. Flavor follows malty with tangy citrus hop bite burying into the back of your gums with lasting bitterness. Finishes extra long and extra dry lipped.
3.2 Coppery in color. Very hoppy, though the flavor is tempered with hints of grass and citrus. Strong in alcohol content. Best sipped and enjoyed in the evening :)
3.6 75 cl bottle, Mulmur, ON, Canada. Deep copper, sweet floral aroma. Syrupy, mellowing with a long hop bite at the end.
3.9 650ml bottle, 9.24% ABV apparently, shared with Octo and Louise. Must have had at least an eggcup-ful between them. Orange-peach with a veil of haze under a fine, diminishing collar. Highly inviting, honeyed Turkish Delight aroma oozing biscuit, rose, tangerine and grapefruit. Fine and slippery with a decadent, boozy, not aggressive balance of tropical fruit, flowers, bittering pungency and pillowy malt sweetness. Hugely likeable IPA, earning a thumbs up from both myself and the ladies. Good one.
3.6 Appearance: Much darker than I was expecting, an autumn burnt orange or pumpkin if you would. A nice full finger of white foam that doesn’t retain for long but leaves plenty of lacing. Smell: A very nice mixture of sweet malt and citrusy simcoe hops jumps out. Taste: I’m liking this DIPA as it shows no astringency but still manages to satisfy my hop desires. It also reaches an enjoyable melding of sweet malt and hop bitterness. Unlike other DIPA’s that tend to be one dimensional or tend to have 2 strong separate tastes (sweet malt vs bitter hops) this DIPA has one nice blended flavor that gives both sweet malt and bitter hops. The balance really works. Mouthfeel: Thin to medium bodied and not as sticky as most DIPA’s. Drinkability: This fine blend makes for easy drinking. The sweet malt isn’t overly sweet. The hops aren’t overly bitter. I really enjoyed this DIPA and would love to come back to it again in the future. Serving type: bottle Reviewed on: 10-14-2008
3.7 Nitrogen Draft. Orange pour with some white head. Although its nitro it could have used a little more "carbon"ationation. Aroma is full of citrus and pine hops. Flavor is dominated by pine resins.
3.2 Serving: 22 oz. bottle from Fireworks. Right out of the gate I will say this bottle had some age on it so take this rating for what it’s worth. It pours a deep amber color with a frothy, off-white head. The nose is very mild with a touch of soap and florals. The flavor has light chocolate notes, a bit of earth, and a mild floral bitterness. The hops have subsided to reveal a nice malt character. A mild fruitiness emerges as the beer warms. Medium bodied with medium carbonation and a medium, slightly fruity finish. The finish is kind of odd. You can tell this brew was something else before this incarnation. I am sure it is better fresh, but even now it is not half bad!
3.4 Unfortunately this isn’t one of the better double IPAs out there. I kind of knew it wasn’t going to be all that great once I took a sniff of the beer. The Conductor featured too malty of a nose. I’ve smelled this same aroma before, and it reminded me of other IPAs in the past that disappointed. And this one followed suit. The flavors aren’t quite hoppy enough and feature a bit too much bready maltiness. I think the sweet/sour notes of the malt overpowered the hoppiness. The finish was a bit too overpoweringly malty as well. The beer looks great, though, with a nice light amber color, generous off-white head that left a beautiful lace around the glass. But the maltiness was way too much for me to enjoy.
3.9 Bottle from Utobeer. Amber with a smallish head. An explosion of hoppiness: citrus, grass, raisins. any malty sweetness is balanced by solid bitterness. Noticeable alcohol. Very good.
3.8 22oz bomber Hazy light copper in color with a short head that settles quickly leaving a light layer of foam. Some citrus, grapefruit, faint floral notes. Simcoe hops stand out. Syrupy palate, medium bodied. Sweet and bitter flavors. Fruity peaches, nectarines and grapefruit yet not any tartness. Low acidity. Overall a very nice ale. Let it warm up first.
3.7 Bomber bottle to a snfter glass. Poured dark orange-redish in color. Smell faint hops and maybe alittle of grandmas house. I felt that the taste was very standard as far as imperial DIPAS, grapefurit woody in taste hop tingles on your tongue. I would buy again, but don’t go out of your way.
3.5 650 ml. bottle. Pours a thin tiny bubbled short lived head, with some lacing, over a hazy dark gold (SRM 6-7) body.......nose is heavy with pine, resin, pineapple, light citrus.....taste initially is sweet malts with caramel, later sharp bitterness, with pineapple and resin notes, finishing with licorice and a bitterness that lingers....mouth feel is thick and chewy, tiny bubbled carbonation gives a flavor explosion. Another of the myriad of well done DIPA’s. BJCP 8/2/16/4/7
3.4 22 oz bottle served in a tulip. Pour is a cloudy, dark amber with a half inch of sudsy white head. Nose is floral, hops, pine, malt, and oranges. Taste hops, caramel, oranges, and malt. I wasn’t sure what to expect, but this is not bad at all. This DPIA favors more malt than hops, though both are very obvious, so it is a great introduction to the style for people whom are not hop heads.
2.8 as i am not a fan of very hoppy beer, this beer does not rank high on my list. aroma is pleasent, but the beer itself is quite bitter.
3.5 Bottle. Pours a hazy orange color with a small off-whit ehead. Has a malty hoppy bitter grapefruit aroma. Sweetish malty hoppy bitter grapefruit flavor with some hints of caramel. Has a sweetish malty bitter hoppy grapefruit finish with a long bitter aftertaste.
4.0 A Mes rate. Bottle openend in Trojka. Dark hazy gold with a good white head and plenty of lace. Big chewy hops and a great malty backbone. Nicely restrained for an American double IPA. A great hop blend that works really well. Good citric fruit, nice grassy notes, faintly resinous and just a hint of caramel. Hint of pepper in the finish with some good length to the bitterness and drying as it goes. Good beer.
3.6 Dark amber orange pour light white head .... citrusy hop aroma nice lacing ..... taste of sweet malt and citrus grapefruit hop with a decent bitter hop bite at the end a mellow and enjoyable Imperial IPA .... have had better but this ones a winner
3.6 Bottle. Gold amber pour. Malt, sugar, and pine hop nose. Taste is semi-creamy, grapefruit, hop. Awesome.
3.0 750ml bottle from GBBF, shared with tashi, 2nd Sept 09. Hazy amber, small magnolia head. Booze-laden hop aroma. Rich, with decent amount of malt to balance the piles of hops. Almost syrupy in terms of palate. Doesn’t feel "double" - just feels like an IPA with more alcohol. Really naff bottle too.
4.0 [Nitro @ Teresas] Amber with a creamy, off white head that left nice lacing on the glass. Aroma of floral hops, pine, citrus, toast, and toffee malts. Taste of pine, citrus, toffee, spruce, with caramel malts, a grapefruit and alcohol finish.
3.7 Bottle:   Amberish, golden hue, moderate to large frothy off-white head, sticky lacing.   Resiny nose, some citrus peel and hops.   Minor alcohol.   Malty start, semi-sweet, tangy, definite citrus zest.   Has a bit of a twang on the backside, but its not too heavy.   I wouldn’t say this one is not clean, but it has a little fusel alcohol to it.   Happy this one isn’t just hop sided, but has some malt backing to it.   Body and mouthfeel are moderate to full.   Some candied citrus peel lingers after the finish.   Not biting whatsoever.   A little heat lingers.   Better than I expected.
