Steinlager® is a lager with a distinctive grassy note and clean crisp bitterness of green bullet hops. It is balanced with a dry, astringent finish.

3.4From old tasting notes. Tawny gold color with a bubbly white head. Assertive sweet perfumy malt aroma. Tangy sweet grapefruit malt flavor upfront. Lots of grassy hops in middle. Interesting citrus finish and aftertaste.
2.9En pression au café d’oz avec collègues. Blonde carbo faible, mousse moyenne à tenue exceptionnelle. Arôme ras. Une amertume très herbacée qui reste longtemps en bouche : très agréable. Le houblon rend la bière intéressante sinon ras : du classique.
4.4Very crisp taste, make sure you have out of super cold glass to experience the full bodied flavour of New Zealands finest lager.
4.2An absolute stunner, as a NZ man, this is right up with one of the top NZ beers. A great pour in a cup with a firm head, has a crisp clean finish with an every so slightly bitter tang at the end. A real mens drink!
2.8F: snow-white, huge, good retention.
C: pale gold, clear.
A: malt, light grassy, hint of caramel, bready, grainy, corn.
T: malt, grassy, floral, hint of caramel, clear taste, light to medium body, medium to high carbonation, slightly better than average macro, 0,33l bottle from local supermarket in Nadi in Fiji.
2.7330ml bottle. Clear, pale, golden, frothy white head. Little aroma, very crisp taste with slightly bitter finish. Ok
2.9330ml bottle. Pale clear straw colour with a small white head, fairly good retention. Aroma: slightly sweet malt, grassy hops. Taste: sweetish malts, slightly fruity citrus hops, a light hoppy bitterness. Overall quite pleasant for a lager, clean, crisp, and wasn’t skunked. Medium carbonation, light body, thin texture, dryish finish. Yeah, not a bad lager at all.
1.9Originally rated on 7/18/08. Curse of the green bottle strikes again! As soon as i opened this one i was hit by the skunkiest smell ever from a beer. Upon pouring a standard looking lager, medium carbonation with a small head. Flavor was rather bland, i wont buy one of these again.
2.1330ml Flasche. Klar und golden. Kleine Schaumkrone. Muffig. Leichter Körper. Leicht herb.
1.9How can anyone who takes beer seriously put it in a green bottle when they KNOW it will skunk as soon as it sees the light of day. Especially a lightly flavoured beer like a lager. Should be a criminal offence. Anyway - I remembered this much more fondly than I do now after tasting again. Simple lager with clean crisp finish when it hasn’t gone off in the bottle. Too hit and miss and too simple to waste time on having again. Lawn mowing beer at best.
1.5750 ml bottle. Maybe bottled on 27/05/15. From a store at the hotel lobby. Honolulu, HI.
Clear golden color with a small white head.
Earthy and somewhat dark malty aroma.
The flavor is malt, earth, mild grassy dryness and rice.
This is like a tropical country lager. Worse than the Miller Lite I just had.
2.7330ml bottle served in a pint glass. Pours a pale yellow color forming a big and light creamy white head with good retention and tons of lingering and soapy lacings left in the glass. Strong notes of sweet pale malts in the nose. Grassy and citrus hops. Cardboard. Slightly sweet upfront mouth. Again, very malty, biscuity and crispy. Medium hops bitterness. Grassy and citrus hops profile. Hints of cardboard and resin. Light body and medium carbonation. Grassy aftertaste. Average drinkability.
2.5Can on my Air NZ flight. Pours fizzy gold with a white head. Clean and light pale malts, very little sweetness, low bitterness, relatively clean finish for a mass produced lager. Decent.
2.6Ultra clear yellow with a middling white head. Aroma is rotting leaves and unclean armpits, with a hint of nutmeg. Flavor is rather bland, there is a hint of something fruity in the finish, but I can’t quite put my finger on it. Overall, this is a boring beer trying to be a Heineken replacement. It’s drinkable, but I’ll avoid it in the future.
5.0Give me a reason not to love this beer, it’s the best beer in the world, my fridge would be fully stocked if it wasn’t so expensive.
The smell right off the top is so pleasant.
2.3I’m rating this for old time’s sake, as I drank a fair few kegs worth of this as a young and naive man. Slightly more interesting that the usual generic international lagers, but only slightly. Definitely sessionable, if you are still young and naive and can afford to waste half of the following day, then this is as good as any. A touch of grass and a taste of bread and hay
3.7Pours clear pale gold. Lots of CO2. Head is huge with thick creamy lacing. Aroma of light grass, big lemon/lime and pale malts. Taste is lemon zest, pale malts and grass/citrus hops that are emphasized by a lot of carbonation biting the palate. Mouthfeel is light yet oily. Finish is a little bitter. Overall.... pretty good for a "green bottle".
2.02 yuan for a 330ml not sure if it is this or not, mine was made in China but did have Motueka written on the side... can. It pours a light gold with a decent head and some soapy looking lacing. The nose is grainy & mentholated rub... Urgh. Thin bodied with cardboard, menthol, sugar and... Nothing terribly beer like. Yuck.
2.5330ml bottle standard lager used to drink swags of these, still ok but tastes more sweet than anything else
1.8"pretty good for a pale lager...but still a pale lager. taste is a touch malty and slightly sweet...not as skunky as some, but can have a touch of it, or it can be refreshing."
2.9What can I say, its a Pale Ale. It looks like one, it smells like one and it tastes like one. But in a warm Dubai that is OK, and it comes from far away, so who cares. (Dubai 201409)
2.0Clear gold with a white small head. Smells of grain and pale malt with citrus and light hops. Crisp. Light watery body with soft carbonation. Moderate sweetness with corn, grass and a light citrus. Ok pale lager
3.2Golden coloured beer with a white head. Hoppy aroma, taste of mild hoppyness. (Bottle 33cl)
1.7Lounge beer, at the Air New Zealand business class lounge at LAX. Bottle. Crystal clear golden yellow color, fluffy white head. Aroma of peppery cardboard. Taste is bitter and papery. An inauspicious start to my NZ trip. At least it was free.
1.5Pours an almost clear yellow with a small head. Skunky aroma...skunky flavor...a tiny bit of sweetness and bitterness, but you really have to look for it behind the skunked flavor. Rule of thumb...try not to buy beers in green bottles. Couldn’t finish this beer. I would try it again if I knew it was fresh, I bought it at a reputable store who always gets rid of their old product and stock the shelves with new, fresh beer, so I don’t think it was actually bad because of UV exposure...but I would be willing to try it again if I could find it fresh, maybe on tap in a keg so there is no UV exposure. As of right now, I believe it is a fair rating though.
3.7Nice fruity aroma. Pale clear golden colour with reasonable head. Nice and fruity up front with apple hints in aftertaste. Light body with low carbonation.
2.4The smell was pure skunk. A friend recommended it, the bastard. The taste though was different, but in an average way. The head died pretty quick but the edging left lacing. Pretty much like the scent, but minus the major skunk. Really pils like. Prominent hop bite in the swallow leaving behind a trail of toasted malt and maybe a bit of lemon rind?
2.3This was poured into a pilsener glass.
The appearance was a decent looking clear to somewhat light hazy yellow color with a decent carbonation seen rising a rocky foamy two finger white head.
The smell had mainly a grassy/hay-like qualities running over top of a light skunkiness (yes, I know I have a green bottle, its okay, I shall proceed).
The taste was grassy and hay-like again and added a light sweet corn-like feature to it that was okay but not great. The aftertaste was kinda harsh and assaulting a bit through the skunky yet sweet corn-like feature.
On the palate, this one sat fairly light and had a decent sessionable quality about it.
Overall, I say this was a decent pale lager, its nothing to go bonkers about but if anything I think I’d try this again on tap.
1.7very faint malt aroma. golden and clear with a nice head. taste is slightly malty but VERY watery.
3.9Poured from 330ml bottle into pint glass.
Appearance: pours a sudsy thick white head which gradually recedes leaving decent lacing. Color is a clear light gold with abundant streaming carbonation.
Aroma: initially a bit of skunk (green bottle), once this dissipated remaining aroma is a combination of pungent grassy hops and sweet bread dough.
Mouthfeel: light and frothy with a drying finish.
Flavor: nice combination of lightly toasted barley, a hint of caramel and toffee, strong grass hop presence as well as some bitter hops in the finish.
Overall: excellent and well done pale lager. Would like to try it from a can or on tap to see if the initial skunk is not present.
