4.6An artful and hefty imperial stout that still manages some balance despite its huge 13% ABV. Pours pitch black with a thick frothy ring of dark brown head that dissipates quickly. Lots of alcohol legs on the glass. Rich molasses, roast malt and dark high cacao chocolate each play parts in both aroma and flavor, taking turns as to which will win out. A hefty rise in hops near the end keep the cart on the track. Thick chewy mouthfeel with a quick spritz of bubbles at the tail to clean things up. Long chocolate and blackstrap molasses aftertaste, with hints of soy sauce. Awesome, but it's a sipper, and not for everyday use.
3.4Deep dark brown coloured body, almost perfectly pitch black coloured, with a very thin, single centimetre tall rich brown head that fades fairly quickly. Aroma of alcohol, soy sauce, meats, mushrooms, roasted malt, deep pitted fruits and bunches of molasses and caramelised sugars throughout - very potent and super deep and meaty/umami notes dominate. Medium to Full-bodied; Super strong earthy and malty flavours show first with a lot of roasted malt, coffee and a good chocolate flavour at first with bunches of molassess and caramelised sugars that shine through with some yeast and lactose towards the end, but the punch from the alcohol and roasted malt are enough, with a lot of the mushroomy and meaty flavours peaking out towards the end. Aftertaste is deep and robust with a bunch of malt notes, some softer pitted fruits and a deep alcohol and earthy note that has a lot of punch, but shows some slightly lighter notes with the sugars both in terms of caramel and pitted fruits and make this a touch more robust and drinkable. Overall, a good enough Imperial Stout that isn't great by any means, but shows some nice qualities, robust complexity and depth, but the meaty and umami notes that still remain are slightly troubling, and to get rid of them in the terms of pervasiveness might take another three+ years, which is a bit too long for the style, in my cellar, at least. I sampled this twelve ounce can, purchased from Total Wine in Alexandria, Virginia on 8-June-2016 for US$3,49 sampled at my house here in Washington on 07-January-2020, just a little over 3.5 years after purchase.

3.9Black with a thin tan lace ring. Light aroma. Flavor profile of dark stone fruits, chocolate and Expresso. Semi rich flavor. Mildly bittersweet. The alcohol is well hidden.
4.0Very dark brown, near black, with a tan head. Rich, unctuous and dark. This is a delicious beer with notes of wood, leather, burnt malts, cigar ash, espresso, vanilla and molasses. A delicious Imperial Stout.

3.0Lightly sour aroma. Molasses. Vinous. Boozy. That's all in the smell. Taste is molasses, chicory, licorice, chalk, char. Alcohol is reasonably well-hidden until your lips go numb. Do I love this or do I hate it?

4.317 August 2019. At Gents Bierfestival X. Cheers to Anke, Kevin & the crew!
Cloudy black with a lasting, very thin, foamy, beige head; some lacing. Enticing aroma of rum-soaked raisin, vanilla, salted caramel, praliné, Worcestershire sauce, mocha, faint varnish, liquorice, candied date. Taste is medium to heavy malty sweet, lots of candied fruits (dates, raisins on alcohol) coated in chocolate with a dash of vanilla, some caramel even, saltiness & umami character more apparent in notes of olive, soy & gravy. Bitter mocha, toasted nuts & a touch of wood pave the way for the dryish, toasty, earthy hoppy finish, but molasses & dark fruits dominate still, as well as a boozy bourbon-like effect. Medium to full body, oily texture, soft carbonation. Utterly delicious but a tad too thick on the sugars.
3.6Darker appearance. Decent smell on the nose. Imperial kick is a little flat and bitter taste.
3.9Blik. Zwart bier met donker bruin schuim. Geur: geroosterde mout, koffie, zoet, melasse, alcoholisch. Smaak: alcoholisch, zoet, melasse, wat rook, wat drop. Volmondig. Matige koolzuurprikkel. Afdronk: alcohol verwarmend, wat droog. Lekker.
3.4Head reduced to dark rim over reddish black beer. Rum, alcohol, sweet raisins, I boerejongens /I, oats, dark candi sugar. One more with I drop /I (liquorice sweet), liquorice, bit of coffee, charcoal but with a serious load rest- and other sugars behind. Thankfully a faint stoutacidity. Well-bodied, alcoholwarming. Dry finish all the same. Not really great.

3.8From: can from cbc clayton
Aroma: sweet booziness
Appearance: pours pitch black with a large brown head that dissipates leaving some trace lacing
Taste: boozy and dark chocolate. A bit of fruit in there, raisins?
Palate: full bodied and thick, a bit of stickyness
Overall: would do again but not gonna seek this one out on purpose.
4.1Boy that’s a dark pour. Is it used motor oil. Or is it chocolate syrup? Very black and murky thick. One finger dark brown head. Light lacing, light retention.Aroma is dark chocolate, espresso, licorice, dark berries. Dark roasted malts.Taste is dark roasted malt. Espresso. Dark cherry and blueberry.Mouthfeel is full bodied. Boozy, but you can’t taste it. Creamy and smooth.Overall it’s really good. It was pricey, but worth it. I would recommend and would buy it again.
4.0Thick black pour with two fingers of tan head. Strangely, the aroma has a slight resemblance to black olives which I think might be due to the blending of booziness and roasted dark malts. Taste is lightly sweet and moderately bitter, with booze, dark chocolate, prunes, coffee beans. Palate is very thick and syrupy.
