Stillwater Of Love & Regret

Stillwater Of Love & Regret

For the first edition of the Stillwater Import Series I traveled to the village of Beerzel, located in the Antwerp province of Belgium. Here I teamed up with brewmaster Jef Goetelen to craft an authentic Belgian version of my liquid interpretation of the Spring season. A recipe originally contrived a few years prior as a collaboration brew with my good friend Paul Kretzer. The base is German barley & wheat, with a touch of Belgian aromatic; accented with grassy hops and an array of spring botanicals (heather, chamomile, lavender, & dandelion). Like a fresh meadow in spring. (now currently brewed at Two Roads in CT)

3.8 Classic Belgian saison. Full bodied and flavorful. Not strong or very tangy. A bit sweet and citrusy.
3.3 Dough. Earth. Fruit. Banana. Hazy yellow gold. Milky foamy white headthat quickly recedes to a layer of dense foam that stays forever. Thick mouthfeel. Earthy. Herbs and spice. Clove and banana. Kind of like a weak Tripel.

3.5 Aroma: Fruity sweetness with berries and yeast. Flavour: Sweet fruity with notes of apples and berries. Aftertaste is bitter and yeast. Colour: dark amber with a fading white head.
3.4 355ml bottle pours a hazy golden orange color with a finger and a half of white head that leaves some spotty lacing on the glass. Aroma is floral with some light fruits, grass and mild spices. Taste is a light fruity and malty sweetness with a grassy, spicy hop bitterness. Light to medium bodied with good carbonation. Overall, a well crafted brew that suits the style well. Recommended.
3.1 Herbs, yeast, raspberry and citrus on the nose. The taste is quite similar. Decent bitterness which fills the upper part of the mouth to a weak moment. This beer you could drink but was not so good. Follow me @ Kung av öl @ Facebook for more pictures and ratings.
3.5 35,5 cl. bottle. Hazy golden to orange colour with a white head. Aroma and dlavour of citrus, spice, fruit, grapefruit, yeast and herbs.
3.9 Tap at bier bier, helsinki. Hazy dark orange color, white head. Nice fruity hops, belgian yeast notes, citrus notes, some sour notes. Nice sweet balanced body, belgian yeasty notes, malts, some spices. Nice saison.
3.9 Draft pour at Evening Star. Poured a cloudy golden color with a medium sized white head. Aroma was nice floral notes, sweet malt. Floral, light funky notes. Tasty.
4.0 From the bottle. Pours golden with limited irregular foam. Aroma is spiced. Body is medium. Taste is a beautiful mixture of spicing and honey feeling, for a mouthful of taste. Finish is short.
3.1 Pours hazy dark orange/amber with a frothy white head. Smells strongly of lavender. The aroma contains lavender and other herbs, fruits, wheat and hops. It tastes medium sweet and very light bitter. The finish is quite short. Medium body and soft carbonation. Interesting, this one.
4.0 Sweet sweet malt smell...lots of good diverse aromas...taste is the same with mostly a grape flavor that hangs on for a while...almost no hops...pretty smooth and sweet...decent complexity..taste not as sweet or flavorful with additional sips...palate acclimation hurts it a bit...becomes more like light bubblegum and less complex...but a darn good beer
3.3 .33l bottle @Explosive. Pours cloudy yellow with low head. Aroma is lavender, herbs, malts, citrus, spices, grape fruits, apple. Dried fruits. Flavor is mostly same with alcohol notes. Yeast and floral. Well balanced nice beer!
2.9 Bottle sample at Rex. Hazy golden with white head. Aroma is floral, herby, spice, lemon, grapefruit and some belgian yeast notes. Taste is floral, hops, yeast and spice.
4.0 like 7 up sodapop in the beginning and the end. the middle portion of this brew is warm and full with a bit of warm alcohol. the herbs are noticeable yet refined enough this is a nice beer. it morphs which is interesting it could get a 4 without any qualm from me.
3.8 Treated as a saison because that’s what I thought it is, this was poured into a tulip. The appearance was a hazy golden yellow color with a light carbonation rising at a nice pace. Finger’s worth of white foamy head quickly dissipated. Light lacing slides right on into the beer. The smell takes on sweet bready to floral (lavender) with a sweet earthy/grassiness rubbing shoulders with some sweet crisp herbal leafiness. The flavor takes the previously mentioned flavors and wraps together a fantastic herbal/floral/bready combined sweetness. Definitely brings on that lazy sweet "evening" quality of an aftertaste and subtly sliding on into the finish. On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a good sessionability about it. Carbonation rides fairly low in this one, still, a subtle stickiness, but not cloying. Overall, good saison, I could come back to.
3.6 This is a bright beer. Nice color. Sweet body, pretty crisp. The alcohol is completely masked. A little spice, pretty good.
3.3 Hazed dark golden color with a taller beige head. Dried herds and flowers in the aroma, along with a good dose of yeast and dough. Hints of allspice and cloves, with a lavender backdrop. Slowly the malt comes forward. Light sweet marshmallow flavors if rather quickly interrupted by a the herbal undertones. Lots of lavender on the tongue. I somehow fell I have just given a message and am now licking my hands. A bit too overbearing in the flavors. 2/11
3.6 12oz bottle tasted on the 13/05/2016. Hazy golden colour with a medium tan white and bubbly head. Aroma of florals, coriander, citrus and hops. Taste is very floral with presence of hops and some citrus. Next one please!
3.8 Pours a medium golden yellowish color. Aromas of fruit, yeast and some pepper. Flavors are sour, yeasty, and a touch of sweetness at the finish.
4.8 A deep orange hazy unable to see through it. Very active lasting head. A herbal tartness lays over aromatic Woody hops in the smell. So smooth the soft herbs coat your tongue all taking their turn to make a quick appearance but then blend back into the whole. Soft and velvet on the palate.
3.4 A murky dark amber ale with a thin off white head. In aroma, light candy sugar with light oxidation, treacle, light cherry and cinnamon notes, OK. In mouth, a sweet caramel malt with light candy sugar, cherries, lactic acid, alcohol warmth, nice, if a bit tired.
4.1 Yellow orange in color... Aroma of herbal tea, chamomile, floral botanicals, vanilla and Candi sugar... Flavor is sweet, lots of vanilla and spice, Candi sugar... Spices on palate... Similar to DFH sahtea, really great beer
4.0 Small format bottle poured into a snifter. Clear gold with a white head of foam. The beer has flowery, and spicy effervescent notes. Herbal tea notes come through as well. Nicely sweet and flowery. Medium body with higher carbonation.
3.4 Bottle 35,5cl / Botella 35,5cl. @ LaBIRRAtorium, Madrid, España. A: Amber / Ambar. T/S: Cereal, fruity, citrusy / Cereal, afrutado, citrico.
3.5 Pine Box Rock Shop, Brooklyn tap: pours orange with a small head. Aroma is herbs, bubblegum, and plenty yeasty. Taste is lightly sweet, herbal, and yeasty. Kind of sticky sweet aftertaste. I cannot believe I have not had this one yet.
3.8 Dear at Top Hops. Clear orange. Off white head. Funky aroma, some fruity notes. Lots of funk overall. Super drinkable though it is a little bit funky.
3.8 12 oz bottle. Hazy gold with a decent off-white head. Aroma is herbal, floral, ginger, grain. Taste is of grain, hay, floral, spices, pepper.
3.5 Bottle. The smell is super herbal, florals, character, interesting, super flavors. Good. The look is mostly clear, white head, golden in color. The taste is the same, character, good.
3.2 @ Hatten 16-1-11: Tydlig örtig och blommig både doft och smak. Belgiska toner samt citrus är tydliga. Lite speciell.
