0.5 l bottle from local 'Trink & Spare' as 'Störtebeker Scotch-Ale', best before October 2020. A little hazy, amber with a thin, frothy, almost stable, off-white head. Sweetish-malty, slightly smoky aroma of caramel, honey and some peat. Quite sweet, malty, gently floral and slightly smoky taste of caramel, honey, some dried apricot and a touch of peat, followed by a medium long, slightly bitter and just a bit smoky finish. Medium to full body, smooth and slightly effervescent mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Pleasant but a bit monotonous, the smoke is a bit too subtle for my liking.
04.11.2019 -- 0.5l bottle from rewe in charlottenburg, 1.69€, bb 20.10.2020. as scotch ale. pours a clear pale amber with a small head. aroma of malts, peat, whisky. flavour of honey, apricot jam, booze, more peat in the finish. no bitterness. fruity, alcoholic, too sweet. very much like a peated strong lager, maybe a bit fruitier.
0,33 l Flasche, als Scotch-Ale. Riecht und schmeckt nach einem torfigen Whisky in Kombination mit einem süßen, leicht herben, leicht alkoholischen Bier.
Whisky bier de 9 % abv, pour 20,5° plato, en format 50 cl.
Malts cara et malt à whisky. Houblon tradition.
Pour l'anecdote, mon exemplaire était nommé "scotch ale", un alias.
A signaler le conseil de dégustation à 16°, très bien et assez rare à relever,
mais cela n'aidera en rien le résultat final ...
Mon exemplaire était à 8 mois avant sa date.
Couleur roux orangé, à la clarté nette.
Bulles quasi nulles.
Mousse nulle, qui laisse le liquide lisse comme un whisky … mais la
comparaison s'arrête strictement là ...
Arômes de tourbé, fumée, malt grillé.
1ère bouche sur la tourbe, crottin de cheval et bouse de vache (pas de jaloux).
Arrière-bouche longue, totalement déséquilibrée sur ces nuances altières ...
2ème bouche avec un porte-à-faux complet (et queue-de-pie au cavalier)
Arrière-bouche désastreuse (il a planté toutes les barres du triple obstacle)
Longueur qui trouve seulement une petite nuance orangée pour rendre
cet ensemble moins navrant (mais ceci ne remet pas le cavalier en selle,
sans jeu de mot, bien sûr ..)
Jambes lisses.
Alcool faible, sous son niveau, et sans action sur l'ensemble (il ramasse les
barres du triple ..)
Finale très faible.
CONCLUSION : une scotch ale qui est une caricature du style, comme il en
existe quelques exemplaires notoirement nuls sur le continent, type adelscott.

Light brown pour. Peaty nose. Smokey, a bit boozy, light and very sweet. The honey tones are a bit too much
500ml bottle. Clear, orangey amber colour with small to average, frothy, half-way lasting, minimally lacing, off-white head. Mellow malty, minimally smoky aroma, sugary hints of caramel, minimally strawy overtones. Taste is sweet, slightly sugary, caramel malty, slightly smoky; widely hidden alcohol. Rather monotonous, too sweet.
Special beer and special fullmouth taste. Good strength of alcohol with gel rear taste of whiskey, aftertaste.

Sehr torfig und rauchig. Volles Whiskey-Aroma. Spannend, aber nicht gut.
In der Nase rauchig, süßlich. Im Trunk süß, leicht wurstig, leicht torfig, malzig, feinalkoholisch. Das ist eine durchaus gelungene Mischung. Bin kein Fan von Torfbieren und für Rauchbier brauche ich auch immer die richtige Stimmung. In Kombination mit der Süße haut das hier aber echt gut hin. Spät merke ich sogar etwas Aprikose im Abgang. Definitiv mal was mutiges, das auch noch gelungen ist. Dazu überraschend hohe Drinkability.
Riecht nicht, stinkt nach Aschenbecher. Orangenes trübes Bier, wenig Schaum. Der Antrunk ist süßlich und extrem rauchig. MMn irgendwie pervers. Der rauchige Geschmack harmonisiert so gar nicht mit der Süße. Aromen von Orange und Vanille. Handwerklich vielleicht gut gemacht, mein Geschmack triffts jedenfalls nicht
Bottle. Slightly turbid amber colour with a relatively small off-white head, nose is woody, malty, floral and yeasty with clear and dominant notes of peat smoke, honey and apricot, taste is smoky and and very sweet, especially towards the finish, a long peaty aftertaste and a sticky mouthfeel.

Cuivrée, col fin blanc-cassé retombant rapidement.
Arôme reste axé sur le malté, caramel, fin crystal avec une petite touche de fumé perçant en rétro-nasal. Houblonné modéré plutôt dans un style noble UK-DE.
Palais est finement malté, caramel pâle et crystal, ici aussi un léger apport fumé se fait présent. Amertume fine apporte une léger fruité citronné/feuille.
Scotch ale gardant une bonne base allemande - le petit effet fumé/tourbé lui seul nous ramène un peu sur les terres écossaises.
Bottle 50 cl. As "Störtebeker Scotch Ale". Pours a clean amber with an off-white head. Distinct smokiness atop sweet caramel. Rich, sweet - almost sticky - caramel malts with close to no carbonation. Very fat smokiness. No real hops. Totally out of whack. 230119
Schöne Farbe, dunkler Bernstein, recht schnell verschwindende Krone, Geruch: unerträglich faulig, alter Kuhmist, Geschmack: die raue Note des getorften Malzes geht unter in einer fauligen, unerträglichen Süße. Hopfen ist hier nicht in Sicht, die Süße an sich ist schon schwer, aber die rauchige Note wird durch sie vollends zerstört. Weggegossen.
Butelka 0,33 (data 18.11.20) Piana w kolorze beżowym pojawiła się na chwilę, niestety bardzo szybko się ulotniła. Kolor bursztynowy, herbaciany. W zapachu czuć karmel, coś pod whiskey, chleb, słodycz. Smak lekka spalenizna, dominacja słodu, odrobina whiskey, ale nie powala to wcale; wszystko jest jakieś mdłe - to głównie przez dominację słodu, karmelu. Alkohol dobrze ukryty, ale swoje w tle działa. Poniżej średniej i oczekiwań.

Hazy pale amber, small frothy off-white head, mostly diminishing; aroma toasted malt, grain, brown sugar, caramel, licorice, smoke, peat - after a while the last two become dominant; taste heavy sweet and light bitter, malty, grainy, smoke, peat, caramel, alcohol; retronasal smoke and iodine; malty sweetbitter aftertaste, alcohol, peaty and smoky till the end; full-bodied, oily texture, soft carbonation; heavy brew, lacks real character, but okay.
On tap @ Störtebeker Elphi. Als Scotch Ale. Heller Bernstein, fester Schaum. Whyskey und Holz in der Nase. Etwas Vanille. Leichter Rauch. Antrunk ist holzig und rauchig. Hat tatsächlich was von Scotch. Aprikose, Vanille. Mir zu süss, aber ingesamt nicht schlecht.
Nachtrag: leider wird die Süsse mit der Zeit unerträglich!
Bottle from Edeka Rindermarkthalle - clear light brown color, almost no head. peat, smoke, syrupy sweetness, honey. all that comes with a very light, almost watery body that makes the 9% almost unnoticeable. dangerous!
This is a rather disappointing brew, because aroma is its only strength: malty and deep and sweet, with traces of bread, caramel, bright honey... and yes, blended scotch whiskey (if that's the way you like to interpret the melange). But on the tongue, you get sweet monotony, instead of the expected duet between bitterness and sweetness - I am even reminded of mead. Despite the ABV and the syrupy texture, it's not even full-bodied enough to be a good dessert beer.
Rauchig, torfig , schöne angenehme Süße, kräftiger Körper mit gaaanz leichter Frucht.
Eines meiner absoluten Lieblingsbiere, wenngleich auch mit Sicherheit nicht jedermanns Geschmack...

Eigentlich finde ich die Störtebeker-Bier sehr gut. Aber dieses schmeckt einfach nur nach gammligen Holz. Wie wenn es schon einige Jahre in einem Fass unterdeck gelagert worden wäre. Geschichtsfeeling vielleicht, aber kein gutes Bier.
oranje/gouden met witte bubbels, aroma is wat beperkt, smaken van graan, redelijk zoet, sinaasappel, mout en suikerig, siroop, matige body, verder ok
500ml bottle from trade with Dunkler Messias. Many thanks. Pours a generally clear gold, thin white ring. Aroma has prominent sweet whisky, vanilla notes. Taste is sweet, whisky, vanilla, almond.. not quite dark and malty enough for a typical wee heavy. Comes across more like a slick, whisky barrel-aged golden ale. Not too bad I guess.
As Störtebeker Scotch Ale:
Appearance: Orange golden, clear. Small off-white head.
Aroma: Sweet malt, light smokiness. Slight wood.
Taste: Quite sweet, medium malt, light smokiness. Not bad, but a bit too sweet.

330ml bottle, poured into Stone snifter.
A: Amber, slightly hazy, no real head or lacing.
S: Oak and lactose.
T: Toffee, caramel, milk chocolate, oak and finished with a hint of smoke, not overly boozy for the high abv.
M: Low carbonation, medium to light body, slightly thick texture, but not as chewy as some other high abv beers.
O: Overall pretty decent, a warm weather beer that goes down okay in the heat.

Bottle, 50cl, bought @ CITTI, Flensborg. Pours hazy dark golden with a small, staying, creamy white film head. Aroma has sweet malts, vinious, light smoke. Low carbonation, fine dry and oily mouthfeel. Flavour has lots of sugary sweetness, smoke. Phew that's sweet.
Hazy orange-red, head evaporates within seconds. Whiskey, maltose syrup, natron, cough drop, bitter lemon, woody, smoky, leather. Light to medium bitterness, dominant cloying syrupy sweetness, medium sourness, medium to heavy umami. Lively carbonation, sticky mouthfeel, light bitter, umami and aspartame finish.
