4.2Bottle 650 ml. 4 years old. Bronze-amber color with noisy cream foam. Aroma: pleasant, sweetness and port wine, malt, caramel, toffee, dried fruits, plums, raisins, cinnamon and other spices, light chilies. Taste: malt sweetness, port wine or sherry, caramel, toffee and dried fruits (figs, raisins, plums and apricots), spices, cinnamon. Finish rather dry with chilies and hop bitterness. Great brew, good balanced (thanks aging).
4.1old review - got lost when I transferred, apparently. This was one of my faves of the series. Chilli was light but present and the cinnamon spicing was just right.
3.4Bottle, deep Amber beer, cream colored head. Aroma malty vanilla, bourbon, chilies. Taste is vanilla, oak, bourbon, chilies, banana, and a hint of lime. Palate is good, carb moderate. Interesting experiment, but not awesome.
3.5Bottle from Kihoskh. Clear brown with a lasting off-white head. Aroma is sweet, malty, caramel, dark malts and cinnamon. Flavor is quite sweet and moderate bitter. Sweet and moderate bitter finish with a little warming alcohol. 150815
3.0660ml bottle (thanks FatPhil). Cloudy, deep amber color. Very malty, chilly peppers, sweet, caramel in aroma. Malty, red chilly, bit of raisins, grassy hops, plums in taste. Spicy grass in aftertaste. Not so shy chilly peppers everywhere.
3.7Bottle (shared by FatPhil, thanks!). Pours hazy amber with beige head. The head stays. Aroma is fruits, pears, caramel, malt, chili. Flavor sweet, fruits, malt, some chili. Overall: nice brew.
3.8Poured a cloudy caramel color. Almost like a freshly pressed apple cider. There was a tall creamy dark tan head. The aroma was mostly yeast and bread. There was a hint of cinamon and some other spices. There beer itself had a thick creamy texture and a very unique flavor. There was a good amount of caramel sweetness along with some dark fruit flavors. There was a hint of cinnamon and some fall like spices, but it also had a bit of an unfiltered fresh apple cider bit of tartness. I didn’t get much if any of the pepper aroma or taste. This beer was pretty interesting and I enjoyed it. It was definetely unique in flavor, but nice.
2.6660ml bottle (ALEhouse, Riga)
Pleasant chilli aroma. Nice deep red. Sticky malty taste. Spicy, but unbalanced. actually this is a mess. Mashy and sticky. Nope.
2.7Smaksprøve fra Rune. Sherryfarget. Lavt boblet skum. Aroma av sherry & mandler. Smaken diffus. Tørket frukt med harpiks i avslutninga.
3.0Poured from a 650ml bottle. Bubbly fawn-coloured head over a bright mahogany coloured body. Drying aroma of herbs, old books and caramel. Rather strange and unusual taste of bread, spices, wood and, in fact, beetroot joined by some jammy fruits as well. Drying end with warming alcohol. Quite well bodied. Not sure what to make of it, anyway, not a great one (Tromsø 17.04.2015).
4.022 oz cellared - I’ve been sitting on this one. The time was right. Nice ale, gold color, froth. I really had no sense of the chiles or the cinnamon.
3.9Amber body, tons of caramel, brown sugar and cinnamon spice on the nose. Lively carbonation, malty but innovative, as sweet, sugary cinnamon stick flavors pick up a blast of chili pepper as it lingers with a touch of heat and residual sweet caramel malt, banana and clove. This would be a perfect pairing with my chili recipe. Booze and spice linger.
3.7Aroma of this beast is sweet malts with cloves and cinnamon. There’s a yeasty tone in here but not overwhelming. The taste is like a big plate of figs, prunes, raisins and other dark fruits. Actually, I catch a kind of marzipan untertone also. The cinnamon is there a little bit, but the chili that’s supposed to be in here is long gone. I would have loved to try this one when fresh for comparison, but that’s impossible so I’ll have to stay true to what I know from this one.
3.6Bottle. Light hazy brown with a large beige head. Spicy and earthy nose. The chilies take a lot of place in the flavour, but no heat. No cinnamon. So basically there is a pretty soft and pleasant malt base with some caramel, brown sugar, light dark bread and on top of that the chilli flavours. Some dusty cocoa, wood and earth and light over ripe banana. Big bodied, soft carbonation, well balanced. Pretty mellow and soft, integrates the alcohol well.
3.5Bottle. Pours amber with a small off-white head. Aroma was malty with caramel, cinnamon and had a hint of peppers. Flavor was quite sweet with caramel, toffee, yeast, cinnamon and some subtle chili peppers. Medium body, low carbonation, warming dry finish.
3.9Clear red brown colour, beige head. Aroma of caramel, mint, malts, spicy, some cinnamon. Sweet malty flavour, cinnamon, hint of chili. Spicy finish, light pepper, caramel, light lingering cinnamon
(from 66cL bottle @ Camping RateBeers. Thanks for sharing today’s beers, RateBeer crew!)
3.7Bottle from some bottle shop out in the middle if nowhere. Poured dark amber with thin cream head. Aroma sweet candy citrus fruity spices. Light carb med bod. Taste starts to show the cinnamon and chili pepper still sweet
2.9From notes. Tasted on 12/12/12 from a capped 22oz bottle with Curtis, and the Nashville crew. Pours hazy orange/amber with an average off-white head that leaves thin, bubbly lace. The nose is full of malty caramel with some chili pepper and cinnamon underlying. The flavor is sweet caramel malt up front, moving to cinnamon and chili pepper spice, pretty simple. The body is full and sticky with average carbonation and a long sweet caramel and spicy chili finish.
3.0Draft. Oh dear, this beer didn’t work for me. Over a cloudy amber body, nose is green bell pepper, jalapeno, light strawberry, some fruity yeast and dough. Flavor is awash with simple Belgian amber notes with that lingering green jalapeno waxiness. It lacks a pleasing balance of flavors.
3.0Medium beige head atop murky copper body. Aroma is moderately sweet, cinnamon, some chile pepper, light candi sugar. Taste is moderately sweet, candi sugar, some orange, cinnamon, light pepper. Butterscotch creeps in as it warms. Medium body, low carbonation, alcohol fairly well masked.
3.4Rated based on notes taken 27 Dec 2011 -- Very good. Much better than the description lead me to believe.
3.6Slightly hazy medium brown body with an average off-white head.
The aroma is malty, peppery, spicy.
The flavor is sweet, bready, spicy, peppery.
3.5Bottle with Salmoniform for my first beer of my birthday (Nov, 11th) with the 11/11 vertical epic. Pours Amber with red hues, off white head. Aroma is strong figs, prunes, dark fruits, plums, vanilla, cinnamon. Taste has peppery heat, lots of dark Belgian esters, prunes, medium bodied, low to medium carbonation. Overall, hmmmmm....
2.9Poured from bottle to glass. Copper hue with creamy off white head. Aroma is straw, esters, peppercorn, earthy, prunes, tobacco. Mouthfeel is ok with a medium light body and crisp carbonation. Taste is dry sweetness followed by a spice astringentness. Overall this is an odd brew.
3.8On draught at Petrol Station. Pours a clear dark copper color with a medium off-white head that diminishes gradually. Partial rings of lacing on the glass. Aroma of caramel, dark fruit and spices. Medium to full body with flavors of caramel malt, dark fruit, herbs and subtle chili pepper. The finish is fruity and malty, with the chili pepper all but nonexistent, possibly due to the age? Pretty good regardless.
2.0Bottle pour @ the 21st Richmond Gathering. Amber pour with a small head. Nose has loads of pepper. Pepper all over this. Lime, some apple. Taste is peppers, chocolate. Cardboard. Knackered. Not great.
3.5It pours with a dark amber color that is copped by a big, foamy head. At this point, I expected the aroma to be pretty muted, and it was save for some bread, caramel, and a little bit of the chile. There is still a good hit of spice still present in the flavor, however, which provides a little punch and a little added sweetness even. The additions raise this beer from a solid, malty amber ale without seeming gimmicky. Maybe some of the character has been lost with age, but I found this beer to be quite enjoyable.
3.9Rich mahogany in colour, beige head, light lacing.
Aroma of cloves, cinnamon hearts, interesting mix.
Flavour of light spice, some light sweetness, liquorice.
Light spicy mouthfeel, med body, med carb.
Finishes with some chilies, spice.
Nice, good balance, Chili never overpowering as it’s really only noticeable at the end. Good epic ale.
3.8Bottle from Toft Vin, Copenhagen - dark amber brown coloured pour with beige head. Medium sweet malty aroma and taste, toasty, caramel, toffee, brown sugar, dried fruity and nutty, some cinnamon spice on the palate, good mouthfeel, warming dry finish.
4.2Bottle. Pours a slightly hazy amber beer with a thin off white head on top. Aroma has loads of port and vineous characters that go with a big malty base and a rich molasses front. Flavor is very sweet, very vineous and you can defintely tell the age on this one. Very nice, full bodied and well carbonated drinking experience, I wish I had the entire series, but unfortunately I don’t...
