Stone 18th Anniversary Golden Brown IPA

Stone 18th Anniversary Golden Brown IPA

The hoppiest golden-brown IPA on earth.

As we compose the text for this celebratory beer—a golden-brown India pale ale dry-hopped exclusively and abundantly with El Dorado hops—we stand ready to leap from the precipice of all we know into a new era for our company, our beers and, most importantly, our fans. It’s one that will see us exploring new territory, both geographically and creatively, as we evolve from pacesetters for the American craft brewing movement to cross-planetary champions of the worldwide cause of craft, hoisting our banner to proclaim artisanal beers’ vast superiority over stripped-down, business-driven, industrialized, fizzy, yellow mediocrity. We thank you for shadowing us for the first 18 years of our journey, and welcome you to join us for next leg and all that follows.

3.5 Pour on tap, dark hazy orange pour with fluffy white head, aroma brought notes of grapefruit, orange peel, some bready notes into some sweet white fruit, touch of slight grass into a bit of pine, some caramel. Taste was nice, tropical fruit, orange peel, some white fruit into pine, grass, some slight caramel, biscuit, finishing bitter.
3.3 I appreciated the darker malts in this beer. It had more body without the clear sugary mouthfeel.
4.4 Bottle, 650 ml from Whole Foods Bowery, New York. Pours amber with beige head. Strong pine and citrus aroma. Caramel, lots of tropical fruit and pine in flavor. Long lasting hoppy bitterness. True hop bomb. Great one.
3.6 Reddish-brown pour with a beige head. Aroma is very hoppy. Taste is hops, some pine, dry, some light toasted malt. Tasty twist on an IPA. Nice lacing.
4.0 22oz. bomber: this one pours a murky dark amber color. There was about a finger of an light tan head on it that didn’t linger long, but left some lacing. It has a nice nose. Grapefruit and pineapple hops are predominate, but there are some others hiding in there. Some caramel malts trying to peak thru. The taste is very good. Bitter, but nicely balance with a lot of malts. Grapefruit, pine and pineapple hop flavors are predominate. Some malts also trying to come thru, but not adding any sweetness. Really well balanced and easy drinking. I definitely want another!
3.4 Bomber poured into a snifter. Hazy Amber with off white head; decent lacing. Earthy, bready, resinousy aroma. Taste is malt forward-caramel and raisin flavors. Hops are piney; bitter finish. Medium body. Kinda like an overly malty DIPA for me.
3.5 Pours a hazy golden orange with a small off-white head. Aroma is pine, grapefruit and other fruit and hoppy. Taste is toasted malty, fruity and light herbal leading to a moderate hop finish. Decent.
3.0 Bottle from John’s. I found it kind of thin with very much of a tea flavor to it. Nothing very special from this one.
3.7 Wood smoke, molasses, pine aromas co-exist well but the flavors a little clashing—the piney hops with toffee, chocolate and alcohol.Very busy on the palate. Looks fine. Hoppy drunken finish.
3.6 [Bottle (660ml)] Pours a hazy deep amber with a large lasting frothy off-white head and lots of lacing on the glass. Aroma is bready, fruity and hoppy along with some alcohol, perfumy notes and a bit of spice. Flavour starts roasty and then follows the aroma. Big, long bitter finish. Medium bodied. Pretty good.
2.8 Slightly hazy copper and bronze coloured body with a rich, three centimetre tall tan head with some golden highlights. Aroma of raisins, caramel, light malt, alcohol and some light hoppiness with grass and perfume noticeable. Full-bodied; Very rich caramel and malt notes with a lot of grapes, nuts, earth and pungent alcohol notes with not many hop notes at all. Aftertaste shows only a bit of hop bitterness with more raisin and malt notes than anything else, with a big alcohol flavour at the end. Overall, a decent beer with no real structure to it - not an IPA, not an Amber, but not really something worth trying when so many better beers exist - especially for this price. I know this will get great ratings for the label on the front, but if you printed something else and put it on the front, it would be much lower in ratings. I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from Whole Foods in Washington (P Street, Logan Circle), DC on 03-September-2014 for US$9,99 sampled at home in Washington on 02-February-2015.
3.6 On tap at MacGregor’s with Bob and JB. Pours a murky brown on tap with thin off-white head that leaves light lace. Aroma of great resinous hops, sweet caramel malt back end. Taste follows, sweet and hoppy, bit nice balance and great resinous flavor. Full bodied, mild carbonation, good stuff.
3.6 Bottle. Pour an attractive copper color with a big off white head. Aroma is of citrus, grapefruit, some caramel sweetness, dinner roll and some more bitterness. Taste is interesting, I feel like it drops a little, the hops are not right in your face, but they are there, citrus rind, white grapefruit, grass, dough caramel malts, toffee syrup.
3.0 Bottle (22 oz). Split 2 ways with Minderbinder, but we didn’t even nearly finished that bottle. Bought @ Craft Beer Cellar Waterbury. Appearance: Hazy dark amber with a medium fluffy off-white head and some lacing. Aroma: Caramel forward with pine, perfume and earthy/mineral presence. Taste: Also caramel florward with pine, floral/perfume notes and medium bitterness. Palate: Medium body. Medium carbonation. A bit oily mouthfeel. Floral and bitter finish, Overall: It was bought last December, but I can’t read the bottling date. If the it’s only batch produced, I saw that there’s ratings from August so it’s already 5+ months old and might explain how unimpressive this one was. Too heavy and rather hard to drink/enjoy. Unbalanced.
3.2 Bottle at Yespr’s - Thanks. Clear amber - white head. Malt bolcher, herbal, fruity, old hops. bitterness, piney, grape fruits, teaish, herbal, caramel.
3.1 Bottle 22oz. Pours hazy dark amber/reddish brown with low light-beige head. Some lacing. Aroma is of resin, flowers, caramel (candies). Taste is of resin, bitterness, pine, sugar, caramel, flowers, some alcohol. Palate: Medium body. Medium carbonation. Overall: Good, but a tad heavy on mud for an IPA. Not that fresh too I guess...
4.2 Pours a cloudy deep amber brown with an off white head leaving moderate lacing. Apple, hops and malt in the nose. Make is at the front followed by a bittersweet hoppiness, notes of apple. Very good beer.
3.7 Copper pour with white head. Aroma is musty floral. Taste follows nose. Etro Aroma than taste.
3.3 Pours lightly hazy amber color with a 1-finger bone-colored head. Aroma of citrus hops with a light biscuit note beneath. Body is medium-to-full and lightly oily. Mildly astringent finish. Flavor of citrus hops with biscuit and earthy notes beneath. The citrus returns at the back and lingers in the finish.
2.1 Bottled on 07.29.14. Poured from a bomber into a tulip on 10.08.14. A: Grapefruit, red grape, and raspberry. A: 1 finger head. Hazy brown/red body. T: Follows the nose. O: The bitter back end ruined it for me. It gave a very sharp acidic taste that lingered in the mouth for too long. Drain pour.
3.8 A solid brown IPA from Stone. Poured a cloudy light brown into my Belgian tulip glass with plenty of sticky lacing to go around. Definitely an IPA on the nose with a hint of brown sugar sweetness. A swirl of glass brings out the booziness. An initial citrus bitterness followed by a clear malty sweet mild boozy finish.
3.0 Bomber, clean brown amber color, good thick foam, aroma of pine and malt, flavor of tootsie roll and pine hoppy, not a fan
3.7 Poured a hazy brown color with a medium sized off-white head. Aroma is very malty with lots of caramel. Lots of citrus and other hops too. Slightly sweet and syrupy notes. Taste is full and with lots of caramel. Brown sugar and candi sugar mix well with citrus notes. Slightly on the syrupy side, but not boozy. Overall a good blend, "brown ipa" is very accurate!
3.8 Pours hazy amber with a small white head, great lacing. Aroma is citrus, tropical fruit, floral and toasty. Taste is moderate bitters with an acidic tartness on the finish. Medium bodied with a drying finish.
3.2 ゴールデンブラウンIPA 思ったより控えめな味 ポップというよりは酸っぱい香りが特徴か?
3.6 Bottle. Pours a slightly hazy golden color with a small white head. Has a fruity citrus hoppy weak piney aroma. Fruity malty citrus hoppy orange flavor. Has a fruity malty citrus hoppy bitter finish.
4.0 Poured on tap at Friendly Spot. Rich and thick. A bit hoppy. Great aroma. The richness is strongest characteristic. To me.
3.7 Bottle. Amber-brown beer with a tan head. Big grapefruit and pine aroma. Caramel and big grapefruit flavor with pine. Medium bodied. Good bitterness. Caramel and grapefruit linger with pine and light darker malts.
3.8 Bomber. Pours a murky amber muddled brown. Aroma is fresh organic hop fields, mild orange, bread.. Taste of a brown but with more pronounced hops, so characteristic of stones stuff, Liked this one.
4.3 Another beautiful bottle released from Stone! This label (as all the other ones I know so far) announces a noble beer with character. The liquid is translucent and amber. Flares and sparkles of Whisky or Cognac spirits immediatly invites you to a second to none beer tasting. Despites the medium head, noze is complex of honey, flowers amd dew, Alcool is weel hidden but is getting more apperant as the liquid gets warmer. Mouthfeel is smooth - a little sugar for sure but anything annoying. Medium body. Palate is resinous and you get this big amount of flowers and damp hay going down your throat as you swallow the liquid. This is a magnificient beer to enjoy before meal, with dry saussage, thin slices of duck jerky or during a fine ham meal!
