Stone 19th Anniversary Thunderstruck IPA

Stone 19th Anniversary Thunderstruck IPA

Our 19th anniversary beer brings the boom, delivering it to the palate in a voluminous, hop-driven thunderclap backed by the power of our brewing passion and intensity. This double IPA owes its considerable oomph to a quartet of Australian hops—Topaz and Galaxy, plus newcomers Ella and Vic Secret. We also had Fairview malt shipped in from Australia just for this brew. The beer’s striking tropical fruit, citrus and peach hop flavors and slightly resinous and aromatically dank earthiness are sure to electrify your senses.

3.4 Pours a slight hazy amber with a frothy head. Sweet citrus and tropical aroma. Taste is very bitter with a slight tang to it. The sweetness comes through along with the hops and hints of malt. Had some excellent beers recently that have all been better than this. Not a bad beer though and would have it again.
3.5 Pours clear golden with a huge frothy head. The aroma is sweet citrus with a little malt, I think it’s lost some of it’s aroma though as the bottle is a little old. A little sweetness is met by a huge bitterness. It’s not the best Stone beer I’ve had by a long shot but it’s a nice beer.
3.8 Hazy orange with a thin white head. Sweet floral aroma. Medium bodied and well balanced with a big piney citrus hop flavor and a dry finish
4.5 Pours a hazy amber. Aroma consists primarily of citrus, leaning towards grapefruit. Average head that quicly dissipates. Medium amount of bitterness for an IPA. Medium body. Carbonation is lively. The finish is satisfyingly bitter, neither abrupt or verly long. Excellent Imperial IPA.
3.9 22 oz bottle from Dutch’s where I also had a sample on draft (from notes). Pours a dark golden color with a small off white head. The aroma and flavor have big citrus and tropical fruit character, some resiny hop character, toasted malts, caramel, dank hops, earthy bitterness, grapefruit, papaya, pineapple, some floral notes, I enjoyed this from the bottle and draft.
4.0 Malty hop aroma. Cloudy golden color with a small white head. Tangy bitter beginning that fades slowly in the finish. Carbonated palate.
2.8 Very green floral hoppy aroma come from this pale slightly hazy brew with a nice white head. Very malty sweet medium carb full body taste with a nice bitter almost perfectly balancing the sweet.
4.0 Flaska från USA. Frisk citrus doft med svag sötma. Smaken torr med citrus o grape. Finns toner av någon tropisk frukt , kan vara mango. En torr avslutning med en dammig beska. En bra sommardipa.
4.4 Flarra i hemmet. Ljus lätt grumlig. Doftar lite ladugård och svagt barr Trevlig doft. Smakar då??? Jo citron grape å lite lätt mjölig svagt trä smak. Riktigt jävla fin smak å sjukt balanserad beska. Jävligt god. Faaan så balanserad OCH fyllig. Hur gör de?????
3.5 (Draught) Pours a clear orange body with a medium white head. Aroma of weed, grass, florals, tangerine, and pine. Flavor of grass, dank, peach, florals, herbs, pine, mango, and grapefruit with a dry, bitter finish.
3.8 On tap at Bishops Arms in Örebro. Hoppy smell with grapefruit and citrus. Powerfull bitterness that lasted a long time. Hoppy taste with lots of grapefruit, citrus and some pine. The smell was a bit weak compared to the powerfull taste. Slightly rough. For bitterness lovers.
3.2 Hazy deep orange and honey coloured body with a fast-dying nice off-white head that shows nicely and leaves a light proper lace. Aroma of honey, alcohol, bright citrus and tropical fruit hops with some grass and a bit of perfume as well. Medium to Full-bodied; Strong grassy and tropical fruity hops up front with a large alcohol presence, some bitterness and a good balance of malt. Aftertaste finishes a bit sweet from resin and honey with some grassy notes and a bit overdone from the herbal hops. Overall, yet another completely uninspired Imperial IPA from Stone - no surprise of course, but this offers nothing different than their last Imperial IPA, whatever it was, it doesn’t matter - there are some minor hop notes that pertain to ’new world’ hops, but that’s it - not worthy enough to pay even a few dollars to buy this one, which sadly, I did. I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from Costco in Arlington (Pentagon City), Virginia on 21-August-2015 for US$7,69 sampled at home in Washington on 31-January-2016 after buying a new car!
3.8 Keg at Brewdog Shepherds Bush, London. A hazy golden/amber coloured pour with a healthy white head on top. Hoppy, tropical fruit, pine, grapefruit aroma. Tastes hoppy, tropical fruit, pine, orange, citrus fruit, grapefruit. bitter finish. Good stuff from Stone.
4.0 Bottle courtesy of matta. Cheers, Matt! Pours a clear yellow-gold with a white head. Nose is some light malt, mild caramel, and a deliciously striking tropical fruit, pine, dank, and freshly cut grass. Flavor is similar with light malt, some pine, dank, tropical fruit, guava, papaya, and grass. Light in body for a DIPA and very nice overall.
4.2 Shared with Strykzone on Facebook Chat. Pours a hazy gold with a big long lasting foamy white head. Nose is tropical fruit and peach. Lots of peach. Relatively full body. Good mouth feel. Flavor is very much fruit and it is earthy as well. The finish is long and bitter but not overly so. The alcohol here is totally hidden. This is actually a pretty unique IPA. Not NW, not English. Shall we call it New Zealand. Who knows. What I will call it is good!!. Another great beer from Stone who never falls to put out great beers. Sometimes makes me wish I lived in Southern California instead of Northern California. But not quite.
4.0 Tap at Man in the Moon. Hazy piss yellow, a minimal white head. Aroma is sweet with loads of exotic fruit, "Djungeljuice", passionfruit and a slight maltiness. Taste hits hard with a distinct bitterness, loads of grapefruit, perhaps a wee bit to green/hop pellet like bitterness. Slight maltiness here as well. Medium body, soft carbonation, dry mouth feel. Heavy dry grapefruit bitterness lingers for a long while. Solid DIPA but could benefit from a bit more carbonation.
3.2 Refrigerated brown bomber poured into a glass. Hazy light orange, medium body, medium/light carbonation, and little lacing. Taste is juicy grapefruit, herbal hops, and bitter finish.
4.5 A lot of hops and grapefruit in the aroma, it’s a cloudy orange yellow, almost like a Hefeweizen. The flavor is happy with some citrus and actually a little bit creamy in the finish
4.0 On tap at Man in the Moon. A bit hazy orange with a white head. Aroma and taste of hops, grapefruit, orange, some biscuits and caramel. Nicely bitter and kind of balanced. A tasty one.
4.0 [My bottle (22oz) shared with HogTownHarry, GregClow, jercraigs & mabel] Pours a murky orange-copper with lots of tiny floaties and a small semi-lasting frothy off-white head. Nice aroma, really hoppy, resiny, fruity, citrusy and more. Flavour follows along with a big bitter finish. Medium bodied. A lot of beers with Australian hops leave me cold but this is one of the better ones I’ve had. Really good.
3.7 Bomber. Farty, big peachy nose, with some fumes. Hazy bright gold straw. Condensed caramel, fruity hoping, grass, overripe peaches. Medium-heavy body. Mid palate features some complex hop/malt flavor changes. Nice.
4.2 Tasting at Matt’s Hazy dark blond color. Very strong pungent hops aroma, a bit funky. Lean body, on the dry side, good crisp malt backdrop and very strong resiny and pungent hops. Very strong bitterness. Excellent.
4.0 Pours a nearly clear off orange color with a good thick white head. Aroma is citrus, grapefruit, passionfruit, orange, lemon, caramel, biscuit, pine, herbal, and hoppy. Taste is grapefruit, lemon, bitter hops, orange, passionfruit, pine, caramel, thick malt. What a great IPA, Stone always does these right.
3.8 Bottle share at the WWWW beer tasting at iphonephan’s. Hazy orange/gold with small white head. Dank, heavy hops with citrus and pine. Very good.
4.0 Hazy orange pour. Nice big aromas citrus and grapefruit. Flavor started juicy, ends herbal and resinous. Very well balanced despite ibu. Enjoyable brew.
3.6 Pours a hazy golden with a beige head. Earthy, grassy, citrusy hop nose. Full mouthfeel with a cottony characteristic. A tarry quality is part of the hop profile. Citrus and earthy hoppiness is also note. Biscuity malt balances. Lasting bitterness after the finish. Addendum: after the beer warms, much of the tar and earthy notes yield to an authentic grapefruit flavor and bitterness.
3.8 Cloudy pale orange to gold pour with a two finger, creamy to soapy off white head. Aroma is loaded with passion fruit and tart plum, some floral citrus and a bi of dankness, sweet biscuit pine and breadiness. Flavor is sweet biscuit, cereal and bread up front, the some faint citrus peel, dank hops, pine, passion fruit, tart plum, a little herbal, earthy and spicy hops. Medium body, slightly syrupy entry, leading pretty immediately to a medium, but quite sharp carbonation, dry, slightly astringent feel. Good stuff overall, a bit thin and harsh.
3.9 [7945-20151120] 1pt6floz bottle. Fragrant citrus sugary floral aroma. Hazy, orange light brown body with a long-lasting creamy white head. Super lemon bitter peel and orange sweet leaf pasta flavour. Medium-full body is quite bitter. Good. (8/4/7+/4/16) 3.9 (c/o blankboy, w/ him, GregClow, HogTownHarry, jercraigs) Overheard: "I hate assholes and most kids are assholes."
3.9 22oz bottle. Pours a slightly opaque golden color with orange hues. Aroma of pineapple and citrus. Flavor is citrus, mango, pineapple, spruce. A fairly bitter finish.
3.9 Bottle from BottleDog, Kings X, consumed at Cliff House Campsite. Suffolk, Saturday, ’Boxing Day’ 26th December 2015 Glorious gold colour twinkly with a white head. Unusual aroma some sweet bittersweet orange and over ripe soft fruits. Bristling furry hoppiness rips across the tongue. Zippy, crushing orange, bitter but really good punchy fruitiness.
