Stone 20th Anniversary Citracado IPA

Stone 20th Anniversary Citracado IPA

For 20 years our passion for brewing and our obsession with hops have challenged traditional styles and expectations for beer. So it’s only fitting we commemorate this momentous occasion by crafting a liquid ode to bold brewing that satisfies your hop thirst and pays homage to our flagship San Diego brewery, located on Citracado Parkway (which itself pays homage to the citrus and avocado agricultural history of the region).

“Citracado” also teases the two key ingredients of this beer. “Citra” refers both to the juicy gem of a hop and its citrusy (and tropical) aromas and flavors. “Cado” inspired us to utilize wonderful, native avocado flower honey. Combine the two and the result pours like silk and abounds with enough hops to match our excitement for reaching this 20-year milestone. We thank you sincerely for the years of support and pledge that we will, as always, strive to live up to the reasons for your loyalty!

3.4 On tap @ Stone Liberty Station. This is pretty much a super hoppy, super strong, amber ale. It’s a nice one, though. Get aromas of honey, bread, and toast. Get a big time pineapple, grapefruit, and mango hop character. Definitely some pine in there, too. The flavor is really, really heavy. A lot of sweet canned fruit, pine, and tons of sweet malts. A little bit much, but at least a palatable release, though not something I’d want to dome a bomber of.
3.9 From a bomber. Pours an orange body and makes a beige head. Aroma is of citra hops and malted barley. Tastes of malt and hops in a rather unique combination.
3.6 Sweet and very floral body with a well balanced hoppiness that isn’t overpowering, citrus forward, nice IPA but not strongly flavored
3.8 Surprisingly traditional - pretty good nonetheless. Sweet and bitter citrus and a strong malty backbone dominates.
4.1 Tap at Crafters. Reddish orange with medium head. Fruity, raisin, full bitterness, hint of alcohol. Some fizzy.
This is a DIPA..with a juicy mouthfeel....LOVE!!! Bomber from HH.
3.7 Pours red with a beige head. Aroma has notes of hops, flowers, malt, citrus and other fruits. The flavor is sweet with notes of malt, caramel, hops, citrus fruit, and flowers, leading to a bitter finish.
3.7 Draught. With the ABV well hidden and the hoppiness hovering above a slick and smooth malt base, with a hoppy dryness comprised of notes of unripe green citrus fruit, melon and some resin, with a hoppy oiliness, this one is dangerously drinkable, given its strength.
3.8 Rötlich braun im Glas, süßlich in der Nase, süßlicher Körper, süßlicher körper, deutliche bittere,
3.3 Draft. Dark red body, big off white head. The aroma is fruity with raisins and pineapple. The taste is funky and very bitter, in a weird but pleasant way. The palate is very smooth.
3.9 Bomber from Discount Beverage, 9/4/16. Dark amber, slightly hazy, thin foamy tan head, good retention. Aroma of lemongrass, papaya, lemon, toffee malt. The taste is green, resiny hops, stone fruit, tropical fruit, toffee. Medium bodied, mild lingering bitterness. Nice beer.
3.5 2016-12-09. Dark orange-amber body with a modest beige head. 3+ Aroma has lightly muddled but pleasant hop character, with moderate citrus and green hop notes. Flavour is moderately bitter, citrus, malty core. Smooth average plus bodied palate, good carbonation. 3+ Okay but the overall impression is not quite as nice as it could be. 7/3/7/3/14-15 Bottle shared by Blankboy.
3.9 Hazy dark amber with a beige head. The aroma is loaded with citra hops and some sweet caramel malt. There is some floral earthiness in there too, but I can’t tell if it’s from the honey or just the hops. The flavor has some nice juicy hops, but also a slow complexity that I believe is from the honey. Dry finish for how sweet it starts, with solid, aggressive bitterness. Great job guys, congrats.
3.8 Rich amber/cider color; Medium creamy body; Aroma of sweet malt, caramel, floral hops, nice citrus, & some fruit; Flavor of sweet malt, honey/caramel, pine hops, fruit, and citrus; Finish is fairly bitter; Nothing crazy here - but very solid.
4.1 In the glass the beer has a orange/amber color with a nice head. The aroma has citrus, honey and some pine needles. The taste has lots of honey up front followed up with citrus, resin and some hoppiness. Lots of flavor that provides a well balanced beer. Great finish.
4.4 Clear amber, medium white head, sticky lacing. Aroma dominated by Citra hops (citrus, pine, resin and tropical fruits). Taste is one-way hopped by Citra too, with some sweet maltiness (caramel and biscuit). Booze very well hidden. Defo a very tasty IIPA, medium bodied, soft carbonation. Not the best from Stone, but still an awesome ale.
3.9 Bottle. Pours a murky brown-amber with a small white head that leaves lacing. Big aroma, of citrus, malt, sugar, hops. Taste of crisp bitter citrus hops, grass, malt, and a hint of sweetness at the front. Lingering rich bitterness. Very nice IPA.
3.7 Bottle shared with blankboy, jercraigs & mabel - blankboy’s bottle. Gold-amber. Sweet aroma, candied orange and honey. Flavour follows, with orange peel bitterness in finish. Not especially complex, but a nice IPA.
3.9 Pours dark amber with a large head. Nose shows piny, resinous and citrussy hops along with heavy clean malt. Flavours include heavy sweet malt and a bit of pine and resinous hops.
2.9 Bottle shared by Martinus at tderoeck’s place, thanks! Caramel, honey, sweet, very very faint bitterness. Totally not my cup of tea, toooo sweet.
3.8 strong malt and citra aromas. amber and clear in color with nice long lasting head. taste is initially slightly malty with dark caramel malt notes, transitions to nice hop bitterness with citrus notes, not overly bitter.
3.7 Amber color with a beige head. Aroma contains some citrus, pine, and mango. Flavor is slightly bitter but also malty with some caramel, tropical fruits, orange, and lemons. Most of the bitterness shows up in the finish. Overall a more balanced IPA than usual Stone beers. Its a good IPA but not great.
3.8 Pours quite dark amber, thick foam. aroma is sweet, fruity but also some caramel. Maybe not the freshest any more, or just having a huge malt bill. Taste is bitter and citrusy, quite nice actually. Still does not feel very clean, caramel, even toffee and then some hops and bitterness. Drinks much more easy than its high abv suggests, so definitely dangerous. Not as great as I was expecting though, feels like a hopped up barleywine that has already aged a bit. Still enjoyed it though.
3.8 Pours clear amber with a touch of red to it. 3-finger bone-colored head. Aroma is dominated by the hops, with citrus and tropical fruit notes. Maybe a touch of sweetness from the honey. Body is medium-to-full and oily. Astringent dryness to the finish. Flavor of citrus peel, with sweet notes of caramel and honey. Maybe some tropical fruit too.
3.7 A 22 oz bomber, bottled on 28th August 2016, poured into a Spiegelau IPA glass. It poured a clear copper amber colour with a huge four finger off white head that had excellent retention and left great lacing. Aromas of dank pine, caramel malt with citrusy mandarin, grapefruit and orange zest. Some tropical mango and peaches appear as it warms. Tastes of citrus grapefruit bitterness, orange zest, lemon and pine with some light malt caramel and breadiness in the background. Medium bodied with moderate to low carbonation. Overall it’s not bad, but I tried Stone’s 5th and 10th Anniversary IPAs over the past week and enjoyed them both slightly more than this 20th Anniversary Citracado IPA.
3.6 Deep caramel color with an off white head that fades to a coating. Dank weed like aroma. Taste is tropical jam. Mango and grapefruit. Very solid.
3.1 A floral hop aroma with a hint of caramel. Pours a clear caramel colo, pours a clear caramel color with a short lasting white head. A taste of caramel and floral hops with a dry chalky hop finish.
3.6 My 2500th rating! And I decided to tip my hat to Stone, who imo shares the title of America’s best widely available craft brewery (along with Founders). And this is Stone’s 20th anniversary release :-). It’s another of their fine IIPAs. Fairly smooth on the palate, and lots of pine flavor up front. There is plenty of citrus peel, and a little caramel and mineral flavor. Dashes of tangerine and honey. The aroma is surprisingly quiet. Good stuff but not one of the best things I’ve tasted from them. Thank you thank you thank
2.2 Tap @ Burger anarchy, Odense. Pours amber with a small white head. Diacetyl, toffee, Sweet and Nasty. Have to re-rate. Who Said filthy tap?
3.8 Bottle - pours dark orange with a small white head. Aroma is marmalade, fruit and malt. Taste is citrus hop bitterness up front with a dry lingering finish.
