Stone 20th Anniversary Encore Series: 6th Anniversary Porter

Stone 20th Anniversary Encore Series: 6th Anniversary Porter

We celebrated our first five years in business by releasing anniversary India pale ales, with each subsequent IPA brewed to be hoppier and more intense than the previous. For our 6th anniversary in 2002, we extended this concept by making an intensified version of Stone Smoked Porter. We cranked up the malts and hops a notch or three and conditioned it on French and American oak, which accentuated our porter’s distinctive smokiness and amplified its chocolate and roast coffee flavors while also adding subtle notes of toffee, cherries, dried berries and vanilla. We’re proud to give those who missed out—as well as those who didn’t—a fresh shot at experiencing this smoky, dark-as-night wonder.

3.4 Bottled 650ml. -shared with Marko and hrabren. Almost black coloured, medium to big sized brown head, some malt and alcohol in the nose. Sweetish roasted malt, light chocolate and smoke with notes of alcohol and rather dry finish. Stone can better.
3.3 0,65 l. Bottle from Spicy Days Zagreb. Brown dark color with off white head. Malt and smoked aroma. Coffee, bitter and smoke taste. Dry bitter finish.
3.4 Bottle. Chestnut brown body, off white head, medium retention. Full, heavy malty aroma, mild coffee, mild cherry, alcohol. Dry smokey taste, so dry, with noticeable oaky aroma, ending dry, mild bitterish touches. Nicely smooth but ends too dry. Not bad buuuut... I'm not that impressed.
3.8 8/10/18 - Athens, Ga - ABC Package Store - 22 oz bomber. Pitch black pour, light khaki colored head that sticks around and leaves nice lace. Aroma has some vanilla accents, a touch of pipe tobacco. Solid, bold flavor with a perfumey profile, some very bitter unsweetened chocolate, some topsoil notes in the finish. Silky smooth mouthfeel. Another solid porter from Stone.

3.4 Sampled from bottle @ RBBWG 2018, hosted by Beerlovers Bar, Antwerp. Dark brown color, average sized off-white head. Aroma is malts, some roast and some coffee. Taste malts, some roast and some coffee hints again. Quite bitter, more bitter than I had thought. [Restored rating after it was unintendedly deleted.]
3.7 10/III/18 - 1Pt. 6Fl. Oz. bottle @ RBBWG (Beer Lover's, Antwerp) - BB: n/a, bottled: IV/12/16 (2018-284) Thanks to Tinus for sharing the bottle! MF: soft carbon, medium body. Taste: bit soapy, soft roasted malts, little bitter, more soap, pretty roast, coffee. Aftertaste: hoppy, very bitter, soapy, bit chemical, bit unpleasant, soft roast in the finish.

3.8 Bottle: Deep, deep ruby-amber coloured, presumably clear, medium-sized lacy tanned head; moderate to solid dry bitter-sweet roasty and fruity nose with chocolatey traces; solid dry bitter-sweet flavour, medium to full bodied, soft; dried fruits and cacao in the dry roasty-bitter finish. Well made, well balanced...

4.0 Bottle sample @ RBBWG Mar 10h. 2018, thanks Tinus.

Aroma of chocolate, fruits, caramel. Taste has chocolate, lots of hops, fruity notes, quite bitter, some caramel in there, toasted malts. Medium thin body, good carboantion. Very good.
2.2 Vom Fass Stone Brewing Berlin 2016-09 getrunken.
Aromat czekoladowy, mocno chmielowy, trochę sosny, lekkie kwiaty. W smaku lekka czekolada skontrowana potężną łodygową goryczką. Pifko jest mega wytrawne, mega goryczkowe. Bardziej przypomina w smaku mocną czarną ipę niż porter. Spoko pifko.

3.9 5/24/2016 -- from notes: Pint on tap at Dutch's. Clear dark brown color. Thin off-white head head, leaving great frothy lace. Small bit of earthy hop, nice roastiness, mild to moderate smoke, some dark chocolate. Moderate to bigger bitter taste, moderate sweet, good dryness. Medium to bigger body, good chewiness. Kind of crisp carbonation. Pretty great. Awesome with my reuben.
3.7 Bottle from Systembolaget, Sweden. Big and lasting brown fluffy head. Very dark red brown color. Huge dark roasted malt aroma. Equally big dark roasted malty taste with a firm bitterness and small sweetness with a big body. Good for a New Years warmer.
3.7 Bomber. Very nice aroma, roasty, a little smoky, sweet. Dark brown color with really nice ruby highlights, beige head that thins but lingers. Little lacing. Not a fan of smoke beers, & this is about as much as I like. Not bad though. Med to full bodied. Smooth. Not my favorite Porter, but not bad!
3.8 Oily black body, some tan lacing. Aroma is smoky and malty, some brown sugar. Taste has light bitterness, roasted malts, coffee, dark chocolate. Medium body, smooth mouthfeel, medium carbonation. Very nice.
4.2 Butelka 650 ml. Godne.
