Stone Cali-Belgique IPA (Cali-België)

Stone Cali-Belgique IPA (Cali-België)

When reading the name “Stone Cali-Belgique IPA”, “Cali” hints that it is a California style IPA, and this brew has an undeniable Belgian influence, indicated by the word “Belgique” (which is how Belgium’s French-speaking population says the word “Belgian”; the Dutch speaking Belgians say “Belgie”). We carefully selected a Belgian yeast strain that illuminates a fascinating new aspect of the beer that is otherwise quite simply Stone IPA.

The result is both completely new and different, while still being recognizable as a Stone Brew – and Stone IPA in particular. Think of it as an otherwise identical twin to Stone IPA that was raised in a Belgian culture. Literally.

3.2 Belgium yeasts disguesed by lots of hops. Meh not sure about this idea really. Worse then a good belgium beer or a good ipa
3.5 330ml can. Can smell the hops a mile off, aroma rich with notes of toffee and banana, lovely golden colour and pours a big white head. Taste is cakeish, almost banana bread, with subtle hints of spice and lots of flavour in that Belgian yeast. Missing a real hop crescendo, but it hits the mark in a big way with the yeasty, almost wheat-like finish. Solid effort from a classy brewery.
3.2 Aroma of apricot & tangerine. Clear golden with a low long lasting white head. Medium bitter taste. Medium body, oily texture & average carbonation.
3.4 Can @ parents. Appearance: pours clear golden with powerful white soapy head and lacing. aroma/taste: barley, citrus, grapefruit and some spicy notes. palette: medium us hoppy aroma, average to light sparkling carbonation, medium body, medium sweetness, balanced by a notable bitterness, average duration and a watery texture. Overall: Nice IPA with some light Belgian yeast notes.
3.4 Clear yellow-golden, thick foam. Faint smell of ripe bananas. Lightly bitter, lightly sour, very balanced. Subtle aroma of bananas.
3.0 Nice, continuous foam. Aroma is flowers, yeast and ripe banana. The taste is discreetly light caramel, which quickly transforms into a delicious bunch of ripe bananas, light flower, mango, orange peel, grape and passion fruit. The hop is medium and carry the malt balance in a good way. Half dry aftertaste where the malt is not lost, yet maintains the hop bitterness, like an IPA, and puts its footprint on the fruity way that American hops are known for. But why should it bear the name of a Belgian IPA? I have never understood what it means, besides that it also has the slightly indefinable taste of yeast and spices that are often characteristic of Belgian beer. So, at the same time as its clear aroma, yeast is probably the only Belgian touch I can find. Well, it's an elegant and tasteful IPA, whether its origin is American or Belgian.
3.9 Positiv overraskelse her. Masser af humle i næsen. På den frugtige måde. Rund i smagen, mindre bitter og tør end forventet. Virkelig en lækker ipa!
3.5 Refrescante,de cuerpo ligero, con sabor y aromas a platano por el tipo de levadura belga, notas de especies.
3.9 Birthday can from Dranken Geers, Oostakker; thanks to Anke & family! Best before: August 2017. Pours clear Tripel-like golden with a frothy, collapsing, white head. The aroma contains yeast, flowery hops, spices, banana (even some faint, undisturbing and hardly artificial bubblegum), mango, grapefruit and passionfruit. It tastes light fruity & malty sweet (more banana) and medium to heavy hoppy bitter; dry, hoppy, bit yeasty finish. Medium body, slick texture, fizzy to soft carbonation. Great cross-over!
3.8 Can at home. Pours deep yellow with a persistent bubbly head about one finger thick. Lazy light carbonation. Aroma almost wheat-beer like – spicy funky banana. In the mouth, some banana, spice and hops plus strong soapy/hoppy finish which is relatively short-lived. Punchy grass and some juicy fruit but a little soapy. The mouthfeel of this is too hot – Admittedly not a huge fan of Stone beers which I often think are a bit unnecessarily brash, but knocking a percent off this would be much more palatable.
4.2 golden hazy colour in appearance, very Belgium style aftertaste similar to la chouffe
3.8 Appearance is cloudy golden, with a 1-2 finger pure white head. Aroma- Belgian yeast, spices, banana, orange peel, grapefruit, malty hints. Taste- hops, spicy notes, orange, hints of grapefruit and pineapple, bitter hop resin, bready malt undertones. Smooth mouthfeel, bitter at the end. Good stuff.
4.0 Nice
3.9 Can from Fountainhall Wines. Pours a clear vibrant gold with a nice fluffy off-white head. Got to admit, it looks delicious. Aromas have a soft sweet banana and mild fudge. A gentle dry peppery warmth and a fresh summer berry cordial. The dry spice is more prominent in the flavours but it’s a stand out fruity profile that stands tallest. A real nice bittered leafy hop balances the fruit. A soft medium body with a crisp sparkle. It’s really refreshing. I struggle to believe the difference the choice of yeast makes to a recipe’s outcome. Everything feels balanced and fruity with a dry freshness. I reckon I prefer this to standard Stone IPA but I definitely need another to confirm.
3.4 Clear pale color with huge fluffy white head. Aroma. Citrus, grapefruit, belgian yeast, funky stuff. Taste: same. Medium bitter ending. Grassy aftertaste.
3.5 Can 33cl. Clear golden color with white head. Aroma has a lot of fruit and hops. Taste malt and hops, like elderflower and lemon with classic IPA bitterness.
3.8 Bottled. A honey-gold colour with a small off-white head and a slight haze. Aromas of yeast, bubblegum, and pear drops. A combination of very dry hops with cloves and bananas. Definitely cali-belgique! A sweet start then dry and bitter. Warmth from alcohol, clean flavours, and very powerful bitterness.
4.0 Can from Beer Hawk. Hazy ginger with white foamy head. Light, fruit aroma. Crisp and refreshing and yes, hoppy, grassy with Belgian wheaty/yeasty taste. Delicious.
4.0 Pours golden yellow with a thin white head and good lacing. Aroma is intruiging blend of Belgian yeast and IPA tropical hops. Aroma is pineapple, apricot, lime, mamelae, banana, cloves, light caramel and straw. Taste is sweet with a nice bitter and good length finish. Lovely stuff.
3.0 It's a good, rather normal tasting, IPA. Not much out of the ordinary but I liked it.
3.5 Lys brun klar med lavt hvitt skum. Lukter sitrus, korn, noe karamell og grønn te. Middels bitterhet, noe brent karamell og sitrusskall.
3.2 14/20 an ipa brewed with belgium yeast and it has the banana taste coming through. works quite well, masks the bitterness of stone ipa a bit
Brakuje w nim trochę pełni i większej goryczki.
3.6 bizarre approach, but one that pays off. creamy and heavy with yeast flavours like a lot of lighter belgian offerings, and coupled with explosive IPA hop flavours, much like, as it says in the description, stone's famous namesake IPA. very similar in idea i think, to brewdog's electric india, but this tastes a lot stronger.
2.8 Very bitter, duvel-style. I miss a bit of the fruit some other comments are referring to.
3.1 Can. Pours clear dark golden with small white head. Aroma is green malt, hops, soap, flowers, pine seeds, yeast and gooseberry. Taste is light sweet, medium bitter and faint acidic. Body is oily with light fizzy carbonation. Finish is long and dry with notes that follow the nose plus notes of dry Martini.
Dobre piwo.
