Stone Coffee Milk Stout

Stone Coffee Milk Stout

Though Stone Brewing Co. is well known for massive stouts such as the venerable Stone Imperial Russian Stout (10.6% abv) and the more recent collaborative w00tstouts (13%-13.5% abv), at a mere 4.2% abv Stone Coffee Milk Stout presents a walk on the significantly milder, far opposite side of the stout spectrum. Rather than being as bombastic as it’s MUCH higher alcohol cousins, this beer is even on the palate, bringing on a hint of coffee with a highly drinkable yet quite modest backdrop of chocolate and roasty notes. At a mere 4.2% ABV, it’s the lowest-alcohol bottled beer we’ve released in 15 years (the previous being our 3.9% abv one-off release called Lee’s Mild in 2009), and you can expect a correspondingly modest body and mouthfeel. Additionally, while some milk stouts have more residual lactose sugar, we opted for a less sweet approach to the category, so you’ll notice it finishes fairly dry on the palate. Want more body or a more intense flavor profile? We got that, but this ain’t it. This is the lil’ one in our stable. Enjoy it for what it is and for what it’s not.

3.0 Stone Coffee Milk Stout Sweet Stout 645411 Lukt: Kaffe, bek, lakris, sjokolade. Utseende: Sort. Skum/kullsyre: Tynt dekkende skum, heng langs kant. Smak: Kaffe, lakris, fløyelsmyk sjokolade og røyk. Hvor: Melkebaren, Sandnes. Medium: Tapp@250ml, ABV@5%, Når@14.11.2017
4.0 An imperious stout. Hoppy at the start with a creamy head, then explodes into a thick, rich burst of milky coffee. Dark, roasted flavour profile that has the slightest hints of smokiness. Not the most rounded of stouts, but still impressive nonetheless. Goes great with Stranger Things.
4.0 I will always tick a stone beer same way I will always tick a Sierra Nevada or allagash. Creamy smooth milk chocolate. Coffee is mild. A little bitter on the finish. That’s where the coffee is coming in. Solid top to bottom.
2.7 In der Nase Kaffee, deutlicher aber Schokolade. Im Trunk sehr mild, fast wässrig, Röstmalz, angebrannter Kaffee, leichte Süße. Ich meine auch etwas Zitrone wahrnehmen zu können. Durchschnitt.

3.7 12oz bottle at home. Black with a full tan head. Dark roasted malt, coffee, chicory, dark bread, burnt caramel. Light carbonation, moderately smooth finish. Lingering roasty, bitter finish. Very good.
3.4 Bottle @home (rating backlog). Pours black, tan head. Nose is chocolate, slight coffee, slight roasted flavours. Taste is more of the same, some vanilla.
3.7 Draft sample at Riverside Market South in Fort Lauderdale, FL 8/5/17 Very good.
3.6 Stone Coffee Milk Stout pours a black color with a beautiful small brown head. The nose is dominated by fragrant roasted malts, coffee, and cacao, backed by hints of vanilla and savory notes. The attack has a dry caramel character before the roast bitterness gradually increases on the mid-palate along with its coffee, cacao, grass, and nutty notes and only a slight hint of vegetables. The finish is quite dry and bitter to mouth and brings dark bread crust to mind. The strong flavors weighed against its light body and relatively watery mouthfeel throws the overall experience a little off balance, but not so much as to make this brew anything less than good.
3.5 Sweet creamy, roasted malts, a little coffee/chocolate bitter; a soft but full body. Good stout, but doesn’t stand out.
3.3 On tap at Planet Oedipus. Black colour, beige head. Aroma of coffee and cream, milky, quite sweet. Flavour is less sweet, quite dry, chocolate, coffee, cream, bitter finish. Light bodied. Decent.
3.7 330 ml bottle, bottled 19.09.2016. Pours a nearly black dark brown with a light brown head. Aroma of roasted malts with lots of coffee, hazelnuts and some toffee. Medium body with a low carbonation, a light to medium sweetness and a light bitterness - pretty well balanced. The aroma is again full of roasted malt. Coffee dominates but is accompanied by chocolate and some dark fruits. Finishes roasty with more coffee. Aroma: 8 Appearance: 4 Taste: 8 Palate: 4 Overall: 13
3.7 Bottle at Cafe Sånn, many thanks to Torgeir for sharing. Pitch black body, low off-white head, dotted spots on the glass. Rich roasted malty nose with earth and coffee. Coffee and chocolate flavours together with modest impact of lactose. Roasted mid sweet malty ending joined by earthy bitterness. Medium bodied. A tasty, well-made stout. (Tromsø 15.07.2017).

3.9 Thick and creamy, it has plenty of coffee, I found it nice and warming, has the texture and flavour of a much bigger stout, even with the lower abv of 5%, an unreal sweet stout!
3.3 Cola looking brew with a slightly off white head. Aromas of dark coffee. Tastes of watery coffee, some mild dark chocolate, a hint of molasses, and earth. Bitter coffee finish. Dry and chalky mouth feel. A bit bland and not as sweet as I expected. Still a solid beer.
