Stone Levitation Ale

Stone Levitation Ale

This deep amber ale has rich & roasty malt flavors, a big hoppy character,
citrus overtones (courtesy of the hops and our special brewers yeast) and
modest alcohol.

3.5 Rated based on notes taken 29 Sep 2012 -- Yummy. Brew drinks super easy, and its satisfying. Drink more?
2.6 I wanted to like it, as I do most of Stone’s beer, but I could not get over the lack of alcohol content that doesn’t help the taste.
1.8 Pours dark red with a khaki head. Head retention is poor. AROMA:, caramel, citrus, light herbs, spice and malty. Taste: caramel, hop bitterness, malty, citrus, spice and pine. AFTER TASTE: hop bitterness, caramel and spices with an oily finish.
4.2 One of best ambers out there...heard they were dumping this too. Amber and light malts in aroma, some red wine grapes and biscuit malts. Finishes pretty clean with the residual sweetness from the amber malts.
3.5 Light brown to umber in color. Small, but stable canvas colored head. Mild herbal hops atop a floe of caramel. Fairly light and airy in feel. Lightly sweet and slightly toasty. Just a bit of herbal and citric hops balance. Big return of caramel in the finish and linger. Nice flavorful session brew. 2/10
3.1 Bottle - pours amber with beige head. Piney, nutty, cereal aroma. Hop comes through in taste. Oily palate.
3.4 Look: pours a dark Amber. Slight cloudy cold have. White head. Smell: caramel. Sweet malts. Sweet hops. Sweet oranges. Pineapple Taste: sweet caramel. Slight pine. Feel: thin mouth feel. Slightly dry. Very smooth. Overall: nice beer. Like the sweetness. First drank: home 5/4/15 Vintage: 2015
3.5 Clear amber of color with an off white head. An aoma of malt, bisquit, hops, citrus and weak toffee. A flavor of hops, citrus, bisquit, malty, grapefruit and weak toffee.
1.6 Garbage beer, Stone said no more a few weeks ago, thank goodness, this beer is as lame as a republican convention in Utah..
1.2 Like most Stone brews that I’ve tried this has a strong, overpowering bitterness. It is barely discernible as an amber and has none of the the well rounded or creamy notes I expect from a good amber. It has a touch of citrus but mostly bitter. Not good at all.
3.0 Bottle: Mild gush. Toasted amber & chestnut color with a lazy beige & grey tinted foam on top. Aroma of burnt tree bark, dank pines, caramel malt sweetness, citrus peel, & herbal ash. Flavor is pretty herbaceous, too, along with notes of caramel, toasted biscuits & bread, pine needles, grapefruit rind, mild toffee, & moderate hemp oil. Semi-dank in the finish with some residual malt stickiness. Decent.
4.1 12 oz bottle. Saying goodbye to an old friend now that Stone will be discontinuing this. What a bummer. Anyway, pours a lovely rich amber with a nice big white head that leaves a ton of sticky lacing. Aroma of citrus, caramel, pine, biscuits, wheat. Taste is equal parts malty and hoppy. Caramel, citrus and pine up front with the wheat and biscuit coming in behind it. Long, slightly dry finish. Medium bodied, sticky and smooth texture, average to lightly high carbonation. Very crisp, refreshing, and easy to drink. One of the best amber ales out there and a hell of a great session beer!
3.5 This was actually the first Stone beer I ever tried about 7 years ago, but it’s been a long time and I decided to revisit it. Reminds me of a session IPA, solid hop characters (especially pine) and a solid enough malt backbone. Nothing amazing, but still good.
3.2 Pours Dark copper with thick white foamy head. Aroma is malt and honey. Now my bottle from Rehils in Jesmond was quite a few months out of date, didn’t notice till after I poured it, so taste had maybe dimmed but was sweet, malty and a bit watery. Very nice but not fantastic.
3.5 Pours a dark, reddish brown with an off white head. Quite a hoppy aroma. Upfront and lasting bitterness.
3.3 Bottle from cellarbrations super store in hami hill. Pours a dark red with a thin white head and leaving some lacing. Aroma is very subtle with some citrus. Body is medium and carbonation mild. Taste is quite hoppy up front with some citrus notes. At the end of the palate the malt comes thru with some roasted peanuts and hints of burnt toast. Pretty good drinking. This would probably be amazing fresh!
3.9 On tap at Spitzer’s Corner, New York. Pours dark amber with off-white head. Nice fruity hoppy aroma and taste. Caramel, toffee, bitter finish. Light bodied.
3.6 Enjoy by date of 02/17/15. Ruh roh, the sooner the better, right? This was poured into a pint glass. The appearance was a nice hazy amber/red colored body. A one finger white foamy head dissipated within about a minute leaving some light ringy lacing stringing itself around the glass. The smell had a fairly big dried out citrus rolling all around in a slight peppery spice. The taste copied the smell and added a quick dry peppery spiced aftertaste leading to a dry finish. On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a decent sessionability about it. I’d say it was appropriately styled. Overall, I’d say it was a good Amber/Red. It’s too bad that this is getting retired. Oh well.
3.6 355ml bottle at home, from Good Spirits Company, Glasgow - clear deep amber brown, good beige head, pine and grapefruit in the aroma, good lacing, pine and grapefruit again in the flavour, oily, high carbonation, well balanced
4.2 Pours a dark amber color with a medium beige head that left plenty of lacing around the glass. The aroma is hops, citrus, grapefruit, and pine. The taste is very similar to the aroma. Up front you pick up the hop bitterness and pine but on the back end you get the citrus and some bready malts.
3.7 12 oz. bottle at home. I can’t believe I hadn’t rated this yet. Pours a hazy amber color with a medium sized off white head. The aroma and flavor have toasted malts, caramel, citrus and resiny hops, mild to moderate bitterness, very good considering the low abv, nice session ale.
3.0 Like the name implies, it pours an amber color with off white head. Closer to an IPA I think than an amber ale. Pretty bitter.
3.3 Hoppy, citrusy aroma, quickly fades to malty, toasty, roasty and caramel scents. Modest off white head settles to a fine layer. Roast, burnt sugar, toasty and caramel flavours are present, with a strong and lasting bitterness. Mild citrus flavour.
3.0 Ok beer , too hoppy, not impressive. For a red ale, this is not the traditional style, needs more malt.
3.1 Bottle. Tastes like pale malt, light grapefruit, light pine hops. Light body and low carbonation. Smells like pale malt, light pine, and light sweet grapefruit.
3.7 This beautiful copper colored beer has a citrus aroma. It has a nice robust smokey flavor and some of that big hop flavor stone is known for.
3.8 Clear dark autumn amber with a frothy off-white head. Hoppy aroma and very hoppy flavor. Moderate bitterness. Pine. Woody. Citrus. Seemingly just enough toasty maltiness to keep things under control but certainly hop forward. Light. Crisp. Dry. Seems more akin to what is now being referred to as a session ale. Could easily have a few of these.
3.9 12 oz. bottle from BevMo. Aroma is citrus, caramel and hazelnut. Taste is hoppy and spicy that fades to a light but sharp bitter. Hop dominated style, yet caramel, grass and some malt notes in the finish. Low carbonation. Tasty and refreshing session brew if you like this style.
3.3 Bottle at Tap East. Amber with a thick white head. Moderately malty and hoppy. Pretty smooth. Clean citrusy finish. Good starter beer.
3.8 33 cl. bottle. Hazy amber colour with an off-white head. Aroma and flavour of hops, fruit, citrus, malt and caramel.
