Stone Mocha IPA

Stone Mocha IPA

Previously known as Liberty Station 2nd Anniversary Mocha IPA, now a distributed Stone brand.

Clearly, style lines have been crossed. Is it half-IPA, half-stout? Not quite. It’s definitely all IPA, but it’s also the best of both styles, making this love child of a beer simply just a beautiful, pleasure-seeking meld of imperial IPA and mocha indulgence. How did we come up with this inexplicably delicious creation? Well, that doesn’t really matter. What matters is that it exists and that it’s here for you now, thanks to our deliberate disregard for brewing norms. Some things are not meant to be known, just enjoyed...thoroughly.

3.5 orange-gold pour. Aroma of chocolate and citrus. Flavor of cocoa and coffee. nice.
3.9 Draft, from notes. Pours a slightly hazy golden color with a medium sized off white head. The aroma and flavor have chocolate, coffee, vanilla, toasted pale malts, earthy and resiny hops, caramel, interesting combination of malts and hops.
3.8 Bottle from McHughs. Pours cloudy amber with white head. Aroma is coffee, pine hop, earth, vanilla, slight clove, Christmas spice in there. Flavour is a creamy coffee with some chocolate biscuits caramel earth sweetness. Drying coffee finish. Unusual.
4.1 Poured from 12oz bottle into tulip glass. Deep golden color with light lacing. Aroma is coffee and chocolate (as one would expect) I was surprised to like this as much as I did. Coffee and chocolate flavor throughout with a slight hoppy bite. Bitterness lingers . 9% is a surprise as well . More drinkable and enjoyable than I thought. Stone continues to deliver.
3.7 Bottle. Copper pour with a tall, off-white head. Interesting aroma, coffee, cocoa, orange marmalade and vanilla. Interesting flavor too.First is a dry, dark roast coffee and hop bitterness. Finishes with hoppy bitterness like an IPA.
3.6 (tap 0,2l @ OP (Brno)) Aroma: Fruity hops, malty, sweet, light sweet coffee. Appearance: Hazy golden color. Medium, white head. Taste: Medium sweet, fruity hops, light sweet coffee, light bitter. Palate: Full body. Light bitter finish. Overall: Good, heavier, malty DIPA, touch of coffee.
3.6 Standard longneck, faux painted label with the usual small-print blather from the Stone Dude. Clear, intense bronze pour, with a dissipating oatmeal colored head. Earthy, fruity, coffeeish-acidic carob aroma. Frothy milk chocolate up front, sturdy bittering takes a backseat initially but then emerges over time. Acidic, somewhat buffered. The beer then moves on to a coldbrew/blonde coffee cast. Bittersweet finish. Interesting, offbeat, warming. ABC Liquors, Bull Run.
Excelente cerveza
3.5 Pours brown with a beige head, aroma of chocolate, coffee, chilli, tangerine, flavor is slightly bitter with coffee, green coffee, cocoa, tangerine, medium bodied, nice
3.1 Clear red brown. nose is glazed doughnuts, Sweet malty backbone offset by cacao and finishes off with a relatively mild hop presence. Its not bad, but not nearly as good as most of what stone puts out there. I don't love the mocha- we can do better things with the IPA. Leave mocha to the stouts n porters. 9 % is heavy for a beer ya don't love. Could be toned down a bit IMO.
3.7 12oz bottle - it pours a clear almost amber orange with thick fluffy off white home. A mixed aroma of goodness like pine, citrus, sweet malt and a whiff of chocolate. Interesting flavors...the initial taste is pine sap and citrus zest then notes of mocha arrive with a meld of smooth chocolate and a hint of coffee. Delicious and unique.
3.8 A great beer with hints of coffee, chocolate nuts, hops, citrus and honey. Although a relatively mainstream gimmicky experience, it is able to pull it off with good flavours. Plenty of sweetness balance.
3.8 [2016-11-23, Rooster, Oulu] Kuparinruskea, kirkas, luonnonvaalea vaahto. Tuoksussa greippiä ja hikeä. Maussa suklaisuutta ja kahvia.
3.7 Tap at Hair of the Dog, Phloen Chit, Bangkok. Poured a slightly hazy light amber with a frothy white head and some broken lace. The aroma is chocolate malt, woody, light resin hop. The flavour is moderate bitter, light sweet with a crisp, sweet chocolate, resin, woody, alcoholic hop bitter palate and a lingering bitter finish. Medium bodied with average carbonation.
4.6 On draught. Pours a light amber, with a smal white head. Nose is cocoa and hops. Taste follows. Very nice, well balanced ale. Blends IPA with coffee. Good stufg.
3.7 Surprisingly good for a gimmicky style that usually cancels itself out like an illegal punch in boxing. Hazy golden pour with decent head and lacing. Mocha and sharp pine come together pretty well. Tangy finish with some caramel mocha. Tap.
3.8 Pours a three finger cream head that fades very slowly to a ring leaving a good lace. Clear amber color. Good carbonation and medium bodied. Citrus hop nose and flavor is sweet chocolate and pine hops, different. Warming, but higher ABV is hidden. $3.89 for a 12oz bottle from Bert’s Better Beers Hooksett, NH. Best by Sep 15, 2017.
4.0 Vom Fass Stone Brewing Berlin 2016-08 getrunken.
3.7 Crisp, clear amber and copper coloured body with a thinnish, two centimetre tall tan head. Aroma of very pleasant chocolate along with some biscuity malt, a small amount of hops and a lot of alcohol - more of the chocolate than anything though. Medium to Full-bodied; Strong biting chocolate bitterness at first with a nice hop backbone showing some grassy and piney hops along with a big malt flavour and more pungent malt and alcohol finish - strong throughout, but the bitterness from both the chocolate and hos is very noticeable. Aftertaste shows some light coffee and grassy flavours with some alcohol and more pungent malt than anything else. Overall, a nice (surprising, giving it’s a stone beer) IPA that shows a balance of chocolate and malt somehow, with some moderate hops, but the alcohol and body support this one well. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Total Wine in Alexandria, Virginia on 31-May-2017 for US$3,75 sampled in my hotel room here in Richmond, Virginia on 19-August-2017.
4.2 Flaska i Biskopsbacken. Doftar tång med choklad hur det nu är möjligt. Smakar först bärigt, känns som jordgubbe, sedan choklad o eftersmaken så landar kaffet. En annorlunda dipa men otroligt god o spännande.
3.7 12oz bottle from Xroads. Poured a slightly opaque deep orangey amber with a smaller off white foamy head. Aroma seems to be more choclate malts that coffee. Lots of toast, grains, grassy hops, citrus rind. Flavor takes a big switch and has a nice coffee and choclate note with citrus hops. Bigger body, average to stronger carbonation. Glad to see this listed as an Imperial IPA because without looking a 9% IPA is Imperial in my eyes.
3.9 Got at specialty beer store on Flag. Had just a taste but liked. Get again.
4.2 This is an interesting brew! Poured the brew from its 12 fl oz bottle into a tulip glass - quite a overflowed as the excessive carbonation caused the froth to spill out once the cap was popped. The appearance is an almost clear golden amber, topped with an off-white head of froth. Aromas a distinctly lightly roasted coffee, and grapefruit and citrus hops underneath that initial coffee rush. Tastes are even more complex and multi-layered, starting off with a mix of sweet coffee and chocolate in a mocha brew, then followed by the grapefruit, and finally piney light bitter in the finish. An amazing combo as each of the aromas and flavours are actually quite distinct and not mashed up together. An outstanding brew!
3.6 Pours a hazy golden Amber with a tan head. Aroma has a faint scent of coffee. Wow. Creamy mouthfeel taste is sweet almost like lactose was used in the fermentation. Similar to a stout without the aftertaste. The combination leaves a slightly minty note in the finish. I'm moles and interesting. Didn't think I'd like it but it's very drinkable.
4.0 Strong mocha aroma with ground malts with and candy hop complement. Interesting IPA, not not one I would drink more than one of.
4.0 Light coffee in the nose of this khaki pour. Tatse is the same with a nicely ballanced hop finish.
3.8 From tap @ ADT. Clear golden amber with a full off white head and good lacing. Roasted coffee aromas backed with citrus hops. Flavors also coffee driven with chocolate notes and a clean bitter hops profile. Medium bodied, low-medium carb. Finish a cocoa and bitter chocolate. Alcohol is well hidden. Very well done.
3.7 Dark golden with a white head - malt aroma with some coffee notes - malt body with a good mocha flavour with some hop bitterness in the back - The mocha flavour goes into the finish with some bitterness - This was good
3.7 Big full body sweet with a shit ton of oranges and mocha. Tons of coffee. Very interesting. Big bitterness. Love it but half pint is enough.
3.8 Taster @ Stone Richmond - Clear orange with a white head. Hoppy, lemongrass, coffee, and some chocolate.
