Stone Sawyers Triple

Stone Sawyers Triple

Sawyer’s Triple is based upon the traditional "Golden Triple" style of strong ale, hailing from Belgium, and weighs in at 7.6% alc/vol. The brew is deep golden in color with a distinctive spicy, sweet and hoppy nose. Effervescent carbonation leads to a modestly dry malt character with hoppy flavors and alcohol overtones. Sawyer’s Triple was formulated and brewed by Bill Sherwood.

4.0 8/6/10. Big thanks to Byron & Angie at Liquor Loft/Proof for bringing this back from Stone for me to share with the Tally crew! Nice fruity aroma with hints of dry grain. Wonderful Belgian flavor with hints of fruit, bubblegum, and dry grain. Very clean and very nice.
4.1 A very nice tripel, Pours a medium gold, with fantastic foam, and lacing .. . light for the style but just as complex- light yeast, cider, honey, and dry apricots .. . light bitter finish that leaves you wanting more, good stuff. .. Can you tell me where the pube fair is?
3.7 light amber color, oranges, all spice, peppery, grains of paradise. Very well balanced, full bodied. Alcohol well hidden. Fairly bready. Bready finish.
3.3 Bottle from Stone’s World Bistro and Gardens. Pours a DIPA-cloudy orange, with very little head for a tripel. Aroma is right on - pungent, with caramel and bubble-gummy sweetness offsetting a significant grassy/citrus hop load. Flavor is really too sweet - this one is off-balance. Needs more hops, more yeastiness, and more carbonation - it ended up too still, as well. Smelled nice, but this one was a bit of a let-down.
4.1 I purchased this bomber while at the Stone World Bistro, consumed with friends in Portland, OR. Pretty impressed by this stuff, but couldn’t drink it often. Appearance is cloudy gold with a thin head. Aroma consisted of hay, Belgian yeast, vanilla, banana, and cloves. Taste is rich in bananas, also can really taste the Belgian yeast with a slightly sour mouth feel. This is very good stuff, but again, couldn’t drink often.
4.0 Bottle from BOLTZ7555 - Cloudy golden pour with a thin white head. Sweet malty aroma of banana, bread, vanilla and citrus. Flavor is the same, mostly malty, with mild banana bread and vanilla, honey and spices coming through. Smooth with just a hint of carbonation coming through. Not much in the way of lacing. Just the right amount of complexity.
3.7 22 ounce thanks to BOLTZ7555. Spicy with banana and orange in the nose and taste. Honey sweetness. Very nice.
3.8 Golden tangerine pour with a short lived ivory head that left some sticky lacing inside the glass. Aroma is banana, citrus, clove, bisquit, and honey. Quite sweet but not at all cloying. Very fruity with some Macintosh apple notes. Medium mouthfeel. Pretty darn good.
3.2 Bottle, shared by OSCF. Thanks Todd. Pours a deep orange with a small white head. Nose of calvados, apple, phenols, alcohol, and yeasty esters. Pretty sweet flavor with a hint of booze. meh.
3.8 Hard to say anything negative about this brew when you read the back of the bottle. Good thing this is an excellent beer and there isn’t anything negative to say! Pours oak orange with a quick white head. Sweet aroma with hop and clove piercing through. Chewy in the cheeks and full of flavor. I wish I wish I could get this in KC. I’m never in SD. This is an encouraging beer.
3.8 20100410 Bomber shared by dmac. Medium gold color with quick white head. Aroma is tropical with pineapple, orange, and then some spruce and earthy hops. Hops have some dusky, cellar notes to the. Spicy yeast throughout and prominent alcohol notes remind that this a tripel. Clean, even, medium eff. A bit thin, oily even, at the finish. Thanks for sharing Dave!
3.9 Much thanks to Dmac for sharing this one. Pours out a bubbly, well carbonated attractive golden color with a small white head. Aroma of spice mostly clove, yeast light fruity notes, mainly apple. Taste is smooth and well balanced, fruity notes of banana, apple and pear with some clove and slight yeasty notes. Definitely a solid one by Stone once again.
3.9 22 oz bomber thanks to padrefan98, thanks Jon. Poured a clear golden/orange with a small white head that quickly faded. Aroma of banana, bubble gum, a touch of clove, raw dough and lots of tropical fruits. The flavor, altough nice, wasn’t quite as good as the aroma but not to the extent that it needed a lower rating, notes of grains, yeast, tropical fruits and flowers. The body was very lively with lots of bubbly carbonation,a medium mouthfeel and a dry finish. Great beer just wondering why Stone doesn’t put this one into distribution??
4.0 Dark brown to bright cloudy copper, nice crown on top. So much sweet wheat and zesty yeast in the aroma. Lots of ginger also comes through in the nose this is a very warm and comforting smell. Reminds me of Christmas pudding with the spices and warmth. Very smooth lots of wheat malt more ginger in the flavor lots of spice and perfect sweetness. Love this brew it be tasty.
3.5 Bottle shared by OldStyleCubFan. Golden pour with decent white head. Peppery, dry-smelling hops on the noses with notes of citrus and apple. Pretty average tripel overall.
3.3 Bomber shared by OSCF - thanks, Todd! Kind of an oily looking golden pour, with a medium head. Faded hops in the nose along with the sort of tripel-by-the-numbers notes of apple and pepper. Mouthfeel is medium, not too complex at all. Tastes like shortbread a bit, along with some fruit and spice in the finish, jumbled up and not too satisfying.
3.5 22oz bomber purchased at Stone. Pours lite orange with a small fizzy white head around the rim of the glass. nose is fruity, sweet, grainy, spice (ginger, cinnamon, clove). flavors are similar but exhibit the wet grains pretty highly-long spicy finish. lots of sweet cinammon as well. a Trippel? i see this is a a slighly strong belgian ale. palate is a bit too soft for a tripel as well as the ABV being low. palate seems a bit thin and doesnt realy do much here. At least the carbonation is lower than most belgian stone offerings. the finish is long-sweet grains and lite clove notes.
3.3 22oz bomber thanks to OldStyleCubFan! I’ve never even heard of this beer. So what’s the story with it? Anyway, pours blonde with a decent white head. Not much retention or lace. Aroma is laden with cloves, overripe bananas. Taste is very sweet, loads of candi sugar, bananas, red apples. Dry, powdery, messy finish.
3.5 Thanks to Todd for sharing this one. Deep gold pour with a fluffy white head. Aroma is spicy with notable hints of pear and apple. Flavor is spicy; clove, nutmeg, camomile, tropical fruit and grassy hops.
3.6 Bottle shared by Badbeer. The beer pours a blonde color with a medium head. The aroma is fruity with some berries some currant and some camomile, a really interesting mix. The flavor is very fruity and spicy, more of that camomile comes through. Tasty
5.0 Beautiful golden color and vivacious scent. Slight sweetness characteristic of Tripel style, but not overpowering. Pronounced Eastern aftertaste - ginger, nutmeg, jasmine, but these are most apparent when the beer is fresh from a tap. Delicious.
5.0 On tap at Stone. I’ve had this in bottles as well and it tasted just as good as on tap. This is my favorite beer. I can drink this any time anywhere. This beer was very flavorful. Mild aromas. Flavor was sweet and spicy. The taste kind of reminded me of pear, nutmeg and jasmine. Many other fruits and holiday tasting spices. I highly recommend this one.
3.7 Bomber - pours a light hazed bright golden yellow with a foamy white head. Aroma is fresh lemon and cardamon spices, yeasty, doughy crackery light honey, toast, green peppercorn phenolics with light fruitiness- apple, pear, apricot. Flavor is spicy lemongrass, zesty, leather and earth, not too sweet- crackery malts, toast, light honey, floral and light fruits some citrus as well- mostly clean in the end. Pretty good.
3.7 Location: 22 oz bottle at Stone, 1/4/10 Aroma: Aroma of Belgian yeast, pear, banana, and spice Appearance: Cloudy yellow color, small off-white head Flavor: Mostly sweet and spice malt flavor, light bitterness Palate: Very smooth with medium body and well hidden ABV Overall Impression: Overall, this makes for a pretty nice sweet Belgian style Tripel. Another very solid beer from Stone, and it certainly makes everything taste better when you drink it in a place as cool as the Stone Bistro. Nicely done.
3.7 (Sample Date: 7/18/2009 Source:Other) Grainy and malty caramel and sugar notes in aroma. Clear honey golden with small white head. Spicy Belgian yeast in aroma. Light body with fizzy mouth feel. Light graininess with pronounced spicy Belgian character. Medium finish with spicy residual bitterness.
3.0 Bottle:   Vibrant straw, clear but with some sediment, moderate to small sudsy white head, spotty lacing.   Dusty nose, a little mealy and cardboard.   Not bad but seems past its prime.   Yeah, cardboard and mealy type malts on the tongue.   Should have drank this one sooner.   Bready, but in that wet cardboard sort of fashion.   Body and mouthfeel are moderate.   Finishes okay, not as bright as I would have imagined it should have been.   Lingering cardboard.   I waited too long to try this one, but decent otherwise.   Thanks Bob for this freebie from one of my first trades.   Been cherishing this one for a while.   Should have drank this sooner. 6/3/6/3/12
3.8 Thanks to oldstylecubsfan for this bomber. Pours exceptionally clear golden amber with a small and very short-lived soapy white head. It recedes quickly, leaving no bubbles at all and no lacing. Sweet light fruits mix with sugar in the aroma and a lightly toasted malt backbone with very subtle spicy yeast in the nose. There’s also some orange peel and some light peppers. The taste has an initial citrus hop kick, though it’s very faint before the light fruity esters and Belgian yeast sweetness take over. The finish is definitely spicy though, maybe some coriander and pepper, and the taste is not as sweet as the nose overall - certainly more layers in the taste. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with low to medium carbonation with a dry spiciness rounding it out on the palate. This is an excellent and very drinkable triple that has plenty of complexity in the taste especially, where the spices do a great job of balancing out the dominant fruity sweetness.
3.6 Sampled from 22oz bottle. A nice, good tasting Belgian. Dark golden color pour, with a fluffy head. Aroma sweet malts, sugar, spices (cloves) and a touch of yeast. Flavor is sweet malts, flavor, touches of bitterness, tinge of hops. Smooth, pretty good.
3.9 22 oz bomber from Ebay! Nose is slightly sweet candisugar, lots of cloves and corriander, and some yeasty goodness. clear dark gold with a medium, glass lcaing beige cream colored head. Flavor is very clovey spices, contrasting light sweetness and bitterness, white pepperiness, and white breadiness. Finish has a smidgeon of bitterness. Quite enjoyable!
3.4 Poured into a tulip glass from a 22oz bomber. Color is beautiful, golden orange hue, with good cloudiness. Almost no lacing, like a string of dental floss rimming the glass. Huge nose, like dried apricots and prunes, and a little nutty. Taste is big time Belgian Triple, spicy, sweet and a little hoppy. My only dissapointment is the finish, there is’nt much of one. Most true Triples tend to linger in the mouth for a while, I havent found this beer to do that. Overall, a very tasty brew from Stone.
