3.8 1 pint bottle from Beverage Depot in Burlington Vermont. Appearance: Pours a dark black with a finger of light tan head. Short retention, slight lacing. Aroma: Dough, hint of coffee. Flavours: Coco beans, vanilla, smoke, coffee, moca, raisins and prunes. Mouthfeel: Average viscosity, lingering finish, average carbonation. Overall: Nice Porter in which the vanilla and coffee beans really come out. The dark fruits like raisins and prunes come out as it begins to warm.
3.4 Bomber shared pours a medium brown with light Brown head. The aroma and flavor is lots of vanilla bean almost touch the ratio of smoke to vanilla bean is bean. I like more smoke this one leaves me wanting more
4.6 This stuff was really tasty. Oh, but it needs more alcohol in it. Still a delicious bit of drink.
2.4 Underwhelmed would be an understatement. Perhaps it’s a bit old? Standard porter looks. Aroma has mild vanilla and smoke....very mild. There’s almost zero of the deep roasted flavors a porter typically presents, with very, very mild vanilla and very mild smoke. Quite disappointing.
3.6 Tap @ Black Sheep, MPLS. Deep brown pour with a prominent tan head. Somewhat hazy. Toasted marshmallow and vanilla. Mellow smoked malts. Nice sweet/earthy profile. Taste is fairly rich. Generally sweet, some umami. Brown sugar, light smoke. Burnt caramel. Sort of oily. Pretty nice stuff.
3.5 Poured from 1 pt 6 fl oz bottle. Dark brown with full tan head. Aroma of light roast malt with subtle hints of smoke and vanilla. Taste has a mix of chocolate and vanilla
3.3 Smells weird. Strange roasty scent with maybe some vanilla. I was expecting this to be gross since I’m not exactly Stone’s #1 fan, but this actually isn’t bad at all. Notes of mild roast and a creamy soft vanilla character. Extremely mild smoke thankfully. There is a bit of a minerally character in there though. Lighter body, medium carbonation, and some foam.
3.3 Pours a deep dark brown with a slight off-white head from a bottle. Aroma of chocolate and caramel/toffee. Flavor of dark chocolate and smoked wood, a little thin in the mouth IMHO. Good beer.
3.6 Nice vanilla beer. Dark brown. A little sweet, but overall nice balance of vanilla, chocolate, and smoked malts. Nothing amazing, but very solid and drinkable.
3.8 Bottle. Pours black. Aroma and taste are chocolate, vanilla, and nice smoked malts.
3.8 This one pours a hazy dark brown color that is mostly transparent when held to the light. The body is topped a smooth head of tan colored foam that slowly recedes to a thin film. The aroma is really nice showing notes of bakers chocolate, smoke, and a nice sweetness from the vanilla beans. The flavor follows suit with dark and baker’s chocolate up front along with sweet vanilla and a touch of smoke. There is just the right amount of bitterness on the back end to balance out the sweetness. Medium bodied and smooth with balanced carbonation leading to a sweet vanilla finish. Really nice beer and a great addition to the base beer. Good stuff.
3.6 Bottle: Poured a clear light black color porter with a large light brown foamy head. Aroma of light chocolate notes with light smoky note notes with some vanilla undertones are pleasant. Taste is a mix between chocolate malt notes offset by some vanilla with discreet smoky flavors. Body is thinner then I was hoping for with good carbonation. Well brewed and easy to drinking but lacks some depth and body to be truly great.
3.0 Pours a black with an off white head. Aroma is all smoke but not overly intense. Taste is roasted malts with a little smokiness. Not overly impressed with this beer, I love Porters and this was just ok. Thin and lacked any real flavor.
3.7 Initially taken by the way the vanilla rounds the porter bitterness. An all around pleasant drinking experience. Only knock against this is a slightly metallic finish. Pours out a nice dark brown, with a medium airy, frothy beige head. Aroma of vanilla somehow tricks the mind into thinking chocolate. taste has the vanilla rounding out the roast grains, mild sweetness with bitterness lingering in the background. Overall nice presentation.
3.1 Pours black w/ tan head. Mouthfeel is typical for a porter. Not a strong smoked flavor, but the vanilla comes through nicely. Reminded me more of a stout with the chocolate and darker malts.
3.0 pours black with a nice tan head. Spotty lacing. Aroma of chocolate, coffee and vanilla. The smoke is very light in the aroma and is predominantly a vanilla sweetness. The flavor has that band aid quality that I don’t find appealing. Light smoke, chocolate, and very sweet vanilla. Medium body. Medium carbonation and a fizzy mouth feel. Short bitter finish. was hoping this would be better.
3.5 Small off white head atop a deep brown body. Nose of ash and vanilla. Flavour of burnt chocolate and vanilla bean. Really tasty.
3.7 I still think it’s weird that I can buy Stone here whenever I want. 2014. Thick and smoothly soft nose of sweet vanilla and hints of tea. Sitting in my glass for over an hour at this point. Mocha, smooth chewy smoke not yet at the liquid smoke level or at anything burnt. Tasty and ultra easy to put back now. Cold - different story - 2 sips and I knew this needed to sit to improve. Mocha, appealing vanilla, smooth teeth, caramel, milk choco with a hint of bakers on the aftertaste, faint berries, some ash on the finish. Highly drinkable after those initial out of the fridge thin sips. Solid and just beyond simple. Really digging the mouth on this bizatch.
3.9 Nice blend of vanilla bean sweetness and smoked malts. Notes of burnt chocolate, caramelized sugar and cream. Well carbonated.
4.1 Bottle from Epsom Circle Market. Nice vanilla aroma. Appearance is clear dark reddish brown with 1 finger-sized off white head and nice lacing. Taste is nice vanilla with balance of sweet and bitter, but I don’t get any smokiness. Palate is medium to full bodied with lively (a little too lively) carbonation that initially stings the tip of the tongue a little bit--as it mellows in the glass you get a creaminess at the back of the mouth. Finish is slightly bitter and long. Overall, based on all of the praise for this I expected a little bit more. It is still very good but not the stellar offering we usually come to expect from this brewer.
2.2 A disgusting beer, a bad mix, don’t know what the guys (and gals) at Stone were thinking, is a vanil barf bomb.
3.5 Un bomber acheté dans le Maine. Une robe brune foncée avec une mousse beige. Un nez plus fumé que vanillé. Une bouche agréable, ronde avec une touche de fumée et une finale iodé avec des notes de vanille. Agréable sans plus.
3.6 Pours dark brown with an off white head. Aroma is roasted smoky malt with vanilla and chocolate. Dark, smoky, roasted malt flavor with dark cocoa, vanilla bean and a smoky, dark roasted bitter finish.
3.3 Bottle: wasn’t as big of a fan of this as I was hoping I would be. I think it needed a bit more roastiness to balance out the sweet vanilla to me. Just didn’t sit right on my palate.
3.1 Appearance: very dark maroon color, can see that it’s clear when held up to the light, pours with a large tan head that settles into a nice density Aroma: coffee, dark roasted malt, Taste: coffee, has a vanilla warmth and sweetness beneath the coffee, bitter finish, Palate: soft carbonation, heavy mouthfeel, bitter aftertaste Overall: a good porter and I like the vanilla, could use a stronger vanilla sweetness but I guess this isn’t a stout, simple and straightforward, very drinkable
3.9 Bomber. Poured deep brown with a short-lived tan head. The aroma picked up semi-sweet cocoa, smoked malts, and a hefty dose of vanilla bean.. excellent. The flavor found similar, with a bigger dose of vanilla.. dry and smokier on the finish. Medium-bodied and dry on the palate with low-ish carbonation.. good feel.. great stuff!
3.5 Dark in color with almost no head. Aroma is coffee, vanilla and some chocolate. Taste is predominantly coffe with a hint of chocolate and vanilla. A good porter.
3.6 Bottle from Appellation Wines. Appearance - Nose - vanilla, gentle smoke with very little chocolate. Taste - more of the same - smoky and very little chocolate. Palate - close to medium bodied with a creamy texture and a balanced dry finish. Overall - interesting but
3.6 Bottle at AshtonMcCobbs. Aroma has strong vanilla, slightly roasted malts, well mostly vanilla. Taste is smooth, not very intense, strong vanilla again, milk chocolate.
3.7 Bottle at AshtonMcCobb?s. Cheers Ash! Pours clear brown with a thin beige head. Aromas of vanilla, chocolate ice cream. Taste is big vanilla, chocolate. Don?t know where the smoke has gone. Sweet finish.
