Stone Stochasticity Project Hibiscusicity

Stone Stochasticity Project Hibiscusicity

The recipe for a citrusy, hibiscus-flavored wheat ale that Steele conceived was first brewed on the 10-barrel brewhouse at Stone Brewing World Bistro & Gardens – Liberty Station. Originally named “Going Red,” the beer was a special-release offering to promote awareness of the American Heart Association’s Go Red for Women campaign.

The addition of Magnum and Sterling hops provides a balanced bitterness to the beer’s citrusy, berrylike spiciness, while the malted wheat adds a subtle yet sweet bready flavor to complement the tartness of the hibiscus flowers. Giving the beer tropical fruit and banana characters, the Belgian yeast strain Ardennes was used to complete the unique brew. As a result of this serendipitous combination of ingredients, fans will savor a flavorful beer that is complex, refreshing and easy to drink. Stochasticity Project Hibiscusicity may be enjoyed now or cellared for several months or years.

3.8 On tap at Happy Gnome. Pours a clear amber orange with a touch of red and a white head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has a slightly tart hibiscus note with a bit of Belgian yeast and sweet grain underlying. Flavor is similar with a tart hibiscus note throughout, Belgian yeast and a bit of grain backing.
3.2 (bottle) bright, clear reddish amber colour with a small beige head; aroma starts with noble hops, then sour fruit; flavour starts tart then turns bitter, with long, light bitter finish; unexciting
3.5 22oz bomber courtesy of poiseneddwarf’s 2015 FBW contest. Pours out a pinkish Amber color with a small foamy pinkish head. Aroma of hibiscus flowers, strawberries, grass, Belgian yeast, and citrus. Taste is much the same. Sweeter then I was expecting. Pretty crushable on this hot May Day!
3.1 Pours a reddish orange with mild head. Sweet bright flavor at start with rasiany Belgian finish that changes to malt biscuit lingering taste. Seems a bit thin. Good but nothing special.
3.5 The aroma is Belgium yeast, some citrus. Pours a hazy copper red with a pinkish frothy head, fully diminishing with good lacing. The taste is a little sweet. The body is medium, the texture a little slick, the carbonation a little fizzy, the finish long. Not bad.
3.3 Keg at the CP&K, 24/04/15. Pinkish amber with a dcent crimson top that dissipates to a swirl. Nose is pissy straw, floral notes, yeast esters, grain, pink berry tunes, light citric vibes. Taste comprises light red berry strains, damp hay, spice, perfume. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close. Ok.
3.6 Pours clear pink-amber, scarlet in the glass, with a thin white head, excellent retention. Aromas of biscuit, grass, hibiscus, caramel, citrus, berry. Medium-light body, smooth and creamy. Medium sweet, a tart kick, with a mild lingering bitter finish. Enjoyably complex with lots of subtle fruit notes.
3.8 Bomber from Hayduke that we had together via facebook chat. This beer is red tinted and has gobs of sediment floating around. A sweet floral aroma is kind of hard to decipher. Flavor is complex and interesting. Unique. Floral notes lead. I also taste tropical fruit and at times it was juicy with that. Wine skins. With warming it brought out hefeweizen flavors, too. Banana and oranges. Very late it went to Abbey ale territory. What a fun beer. You don’t find recipes like this on the internet. Stone, well done!
3.8 This was shared with Strykzone of Facebook Chat. It poured from the 22oz bottle a light red with a head containing pink overtones. Nice appearance. Nose is some berry, wheat, and hibiscus flowers. Medium body. Flavor is very complex with some tartness from the flowers (hibiscus), some tropical fruit, some citrus, and wheat. Vanilla and berry as well. Some banana even. The finish is hibuscus flower tart and dry. This is am amazingly complex beer and quite easy to drink. Quite enjoyable.
3.4 Bottle. Reddish-amber beer with a cream head. Yeast and light grain aroma with light floral notes. Fruity/floral flavor with yeast. Medium bodied. Hibiscus and yeast linger with light spice and light orange.
3.8 Pours a ruby red with a white foam head. There was a lot of sediment mixed in as well, perhaps from the orange peel. Aroma is orange and floral notes. Flavor is lots of orange, some banana, and floral notes. Has a slightly tart finish. Really interesting beer. Well done.
3.4 Keg at The Kings Arms, Bethnal Green, London. Clouded amber with white head. There is a caramel, toffee sweetness from the off with this, yes there is a flowery character, presumably from the hibiscus, but there is also vanilla and a hint of banana. A bit mixed up for me but still drinkable.
3.4 Bottle pour at home, deep amber pour, definite floral flavor you can kindof taste the orange, don’t got a lot to say about this one, obviously.
3.7 Pours lightly hazy orange-amber, with touches of both red and orange. Bone-colored 1-finger head. Citrus fruit aroma with some banana and a floral note. Body is medium-to-full and mildly oily. Light astringency to the finish. Flavor has notes of banana and citrus, with a light floral note beneath. Liked it, but wanted more sweetness from the hibiscus.
3.6 Pours out a light reddish almost lambic-like color with a small light pink head. Aroma is of sweet floral notes, some fruit, mild tartness, bitter hops. Taste is sweet floral notes, tropical fruit, light citrus, some dried fruit, citrus mild bitterness, berries. Lots going on, can’t drink it all day, but defninitely well done.
3.5 Bottle. Pinkish red pour with thin white head. Aroma is floral, nice hibiscus aroma, lime. Taste is well integrated, nice citrus - hibiscus combo, yeasty spiciness. Palate is med-full bodied with good carbonation. Good.
3.2 Aromas of passionfruit, faint watermelon, hibiscus flowers, somewhat doughy. Hazy pinkish red with a mostly lasting white head. Fruity with a touch of sweetness, a little winey. Medium bodied, the carbonation level is pretty high making for a very crisp and refreshing finish.
3.8 This red belgian is wonderful, Sweet fruit aroma on the nose with hints of wheat and a mild hop profile. Smooth drinking with more citrus and red fruit flavors, mild bitter. Very Nice!
3.8 Tap at spitfire... Copper... Soft fruits sweet floral fruit.. Wierd interesting nose... Interesting... Soft sweet floral herbal fruits... Must be the hibiscus.. Soft orange... Light dry bitter...
3.6 Pours a reddish-orange color with an off-white head. It smells of florals, citrus, and a light malt. It tastes sweet with florals and berries. The hibiscus is definitely there. Some mild hop bitterness makes the finish a bit dry, preventing a fairly sweet beer from being too sweet. Interesting and tasty
3.6 Keg at spitfire. Pours clear Ruby amber, nose is sweet toffee, herbal, floral, taste is similar, sweet.
3.9 Tap. Bundobust, Leeds. Clear, pinky amber. Thin, lasting, white head. Lots if Hibiscus. Sour cherry. Bready yeast. Ginger biscuit. Lovely, in fact. Taste is light sweet. Sourdough sour. Soft, light palate. Finishes light tart, and light dry. Very refreshing.
3.4 I can smell banana and fruit in this cloudy ready beer. Style says it is a belgian ale but the sweet sour tanginess reminds me more of a farmhouse ale. Banana on the palate kind of like a hefe but not as thick. Tasty but really tart and tangy always something unique and different from Stone.
3.6 22 oz bottle- Pours very hazy dark orange with minimal head that reduces leaving a collar. Aroma is spices, bready, rye, some fruits. The taste is bready, biscuity, flowery, tastes like rose hips, intensely floral to say the least! Good, a bit odd, definitely worth the price i paid ($2.50) for six bottles.
3.5 Bottle: Poured a pinkish color ale with a medium size foamy head with OK retention and minimal lacing. Aroma of light sweet malt notes with light fruity ester with some hibiscus notes. Taste is also dominated by hibiscus notes with some sweet malt notes and light fruity ester. Body is about average for style with good carbonation. I was expecting hibiscus to be even more showcase but still an enjoyable beer nonetheless.
3.2 Draft at Cincy beerfest. Pours a slightly hazy amber color with a small off white head. The aroma and flavor have floral notes, sweet malts, mild Belgian character, some herbalbbitterness, just not my thing.
3.2 Draft pour at Cincinnati Beerfest 2015 pour darker reddish orange with minimal white head. Nose sweet malt and light floral. Not nearly as floral as lots of hibiscus beers. Taste sweet malt in the Belgian character, light floral hop and hint of vegetal. Light bitter and floral finish. Glad I got a sample instead of buying a bottle.
3.6 Sample at Bob’s Bar. The beer pours a clear reddish-gold color with a medium off-white head that recedes steadily to an outer ring. Stringy lacing on the glass. Aroma of floral hops, citrus and malt. Medium body with flavors of citrusy hops, hibiscus and roast malt. The finish is moderately bitter with an herbal and fruity hops aftertaste. Decent overall.
3.4 2nd February 2015 Craft Islington. Keg. Light haze on this reddish amber beer, small pale cream colour head. Dry palate, mild fine carbonation. Milf floralness with jammy sweetness, generic fruits and a slight boiled sweet vibe. Light finish. Not bad.
3.5 Sort of a lemony, fruity flavor. Probably hibiscus, though I don’t know what that tastes like. This is probably better in the summer, but it isn’t bad either way
