Stone Stochasticity Project Your Father Smelt of Elderberries

Stone Stochasticity Project Your Father Smelt of Elderberries

Hearken, ye merry craft-ale imbibers, as we present thee an ale inspired by medieval England. This re-creation of a medieval English ale is a brew the Knights of the Round Table would have heartily enjoyed. A strong beer, it has intense bready malt character accompanied by herbal, earthy hop notes and mild smokiness. The addition of elderberries imparts subtle blueberry-like flavor, while flaked oats and pale, amber and smoked malts mirror grains used by English brewers hundreds of years ago. It’s a beer inspired by the Middle Ages, but perfect for enjoying in the 21st century.

3.8 Draught. Dark amber coloured. Dense light beige head. Aroma. Fruits, berries, light smoke, bread and vague herbs. Flavour. Spice, light herbs, fruits and berries, smoke, alcohol. Medium to full bodied. Ends vaguely smoked and with a touch of berries. Good alcoholbite on lips and palate.
3.9 22oz. bottle. Pours a hazy reddish-hue color with a quick, thin, off-white head. Aroma is a little sour with a bunch of malt, very similar to an abbey ale or a Belgian. Full body, flavor has the same characteristics of a Belgian: yeast & malt with a little bit of tartness and alcohol. Finish is slightly warming and sour. Good!
3.6 Smells malty, fruity, perhaps with the slightest hint of sour. Appearance is medium brown, no head, with a slight reddish tint. Taste is smoked malt, earthy hop with the slightest berry taste. Very smooth for the ABV, but the smokiness takes a bit away from the palate. Still, I think this beer is underrated.
3.9 Bottle at ash’s. Pours clear ruby, nose is caramel, sweet toffee, green peas, light smoke, taste is sweet toffee, caramel, bitter, salty, herbal.
4.1 Bottle from Appellation Wines Comely Bank. Appearance - deep autumnal red with a nice fluffy red. Perfect appearance. Nose - redcurrants and raspberries. Burnt wood. Taste - more smoky wood, red fruits. Burnt toffee. Palate - medium bodied with a tangy texture and a long dry tangy but rich finish. Overall - lovely, complex and interesting *an understated word in the English language, for a change).
4.1 Bottle from appellation wines comely bank. Pours hazy amber/red. Nose of pine cone, red fruit, spices, peat smoke. Taste is loads of tangy malts, more peat, full-bodied, pine resin, forest floor. Complex, lovely.

The body is medium, the texture creamy, the carbonation lively, the finish long. Very Good!!! Should have ratings by song as also food pairings.!

3.4 Tap at CBC 2016 Yellow session. Poured a clear pink copper colour with a bubbly white head. The aroma is elderberries and sweaty socks. The flavour is light sweet with some sour notes and a dry crisp fruity yeast palate. Light bodied with average carbonation.
3.5 Bottle from the Brewdog Online Shop, shared after work. Pours hazy brown with a thin beige head. Aromas of light iodine, berries, caramel and light booziness. Taste is fruity, rich, light smoke. Full bodied. Fruity finish. Expensive.
3.7 Shared bomber from Craft. Hazy brown pour with tan head. Nose was caramel, smoked malt, berries, mild hops. The berry flavor worked for me in this, plus some grainy and smoked malt, and a rich finish.
2.5 Aroma is totally malt based with a spicey tang to it. Caramels, alcohol, some light smoke and that uniqe smell of elderberries. A slight raw and unpolished aroma of old man’s overcoat and gardening. Taste is equally raw and strong. Dark unripe fruits, slightly burnt toffee, spicy caramel and a hefty dose of alcohol. Strong and bitey finish with a hint of herbs and leather in the end. This was not my jam.

3.0 13-MAY-2016, draft @CBC Yellow Session, with Ulkløbben:-) Clear amber with a low lasting off-white head. Very malty, not all that berry-like or even strong ale like. Just OK.
