Stone Tropic of Thunder

Stone Tropic of Thunder

Imagine you set sail for a three hour tour. Let’s say from the Port of Escondido (work with us here). The weather started getting rough. Your tiny ship (but not lunch, thankfully) was tossed. Long story short: You’re marooned on a remote island somewhere near the Tropic of Thunder. The good news is that the Capt. of the S.S. Stone and her brewing kit were among the small cast of colorful characters that survived the rough voyage with you. Mainstays Citra & Mosaic along with newcomer Cashmere hops are joined by their juicy tropical aromas of citrus, pineapple and coconut (try stringing all that together in a catchy tune). The rescue ship will find you all soon enough. For now, set aside the non-working cell phone and lack of social media (again, work with us here), kick back and revel in your moment of tropical island lagoon serenity.

3.5 Tap at FOB, Rimini, Italy. Pours orange blonde, fairly transparent, with fine white foam. Aroma is rather hoppy, with earthy notes. Body is average, with good carbonation. Taste is well balanced between moderate sweet and bitter. Final is fairly long and fruity.
2.9 A smell of fruit, light hint of grapefruit. The small white fizzy head disappears fast, the body is pale yellow. A quite bitter taste, fruity and light metalic. The body is light and dry with a lively carbonation.
3.4 355 ml can. Unclear golden, small fluffy head. Honey, pine, pineapple, mango, hay. Fruity sweetness, hoppy bitterness. Medium bodied, oily texture, soft carbonated, dry sweet finish. Decent.
3.7 Can, 0.355l. Hazy golden pour, thin soapy white head, short lasting. Minimal lacing on the glass. Refreshing on the nose, strong fruity hop character with herbal notes in the background. Light to medium body, medium carbonation. Soft and smooth mouthfeel and texture, lightweight but chewy, quite drinkable. Fruity bittersweet taste and aroma. Tropical fruits, citruses, pineapple. Peach, pine, hints of vanilla. Subtle herbal and grassy notes in the background, mild malt sweetness. Short lasting finish, dry, fruity, subtle lingering bitterness with some spicy notes. Tasty.
3.4 Copenhagen 4/9 2020. 35,5 cl can from Meny, Østerfælled Torv. Yellow can with Stone's characteristic devil-head and a tropical landscape in the background. Pours slightly unclear yellow with a medium-sized white head. Settles as thin, almost transparent layer of foam struggling to cover the surface of the beer. Crawling up the sides of the glass. Moderate lacing. Aroma is fairly intense with a sweet malty odor supplemented by strong citric notes. Sweet pale malts, cardboard. Grape fruit and lemon. A bit perfumed. Medium strong carbonation. Thin, watery, tingling and lively texture. Flavor is medium intense with a medium strong sweetness followed by a slightly stronger citric bitterness. Aftertaste is bitter. Lingers for a while. Finish is dry. Fine lager which balances the sweet macro lager sweetness with a decent citric, dry bitterness.
3.8 Clear golden color with medium white head. Aroma: pine, grapefruit, herbal and earthy notes. Taste: resin, mango, grassy, light bready. Light bodied, moderate carbonation, moderate bitterness. Dangerously drinkable, lots of hoppy character, clean. Excellent.
3.4 Una Lager muy buena con buena retención de espuma, color claro
3.6 Garden party at Rusovce. Med-thin body, moderate carbonation. Light honeyish maltiness, med-light bitterness. Easy drinking, tasty, rather light. Quite good.

3.5 Can at Beer garden party Rusovce. Pours golden color, white head. Aroma of citrusy hops, grapefruit. Taste is medium sweet, medium bitter, grapefruit, tangerines.
3.2 355ml can. Opalescent, yellow-ish golden colour with average, frothy, half-way lasting, minimally lacing, white head. Citrusy and tropical fruity, hoppy and slightly grainy, malty aroma, hints of passion fruit, mango, tangerine, a touch of pineapple. Taste is spicy, minimally grainy, malty and fruity, moderately bitter hoppy, diluted hints of mango, passion fruit, some tangerine and pineapple with white jelly bear character; minimally artificial hop flavours overall. Minimally oily texture, smooth and soft palate, soft carbonation. Not overly impressive; relatively weak and minimally artificial hop flavours with relatively unspecific fruitiness - meh.
3.3 Tall-er can from LCBO. Pours an average size frothy white head that sticks around and has a pale golden appearance. Some thick dirty lacing. Somewhat excessive carbonation. Fizzy and drying mouthfeel. Aromas of mild floral and citrus hops, a bit wheaty and grassy. Not bad.
3.5 Pretty good. Almost hef like. Would get again.
3.5 On tap at Beer & Play. Golden with a small white head. Aroma of mild hops, grass and citrus. The same in the taste, also some pineapple. Refreshing and easy to drink.
3.6 Wizualnie złoty kolor, trunek przejrzysty, Piana średnia, biała, z większymi bąblami, szyła na szkle. Aromat cytrusy w przewadze grejpfrut, cytryny, ananas, kokos, igliwie, żywica. Smak goryczka nie zalegająca, przyjemna żywica, tropiki i cytrusy, do tego kokos, lekko słód. Piwo w porządku.
3.6 Can. Golden pour. Aroma of pineapple, citrus, orange, malt and a little garlic hop. Taste has orange, garlicy pineapple, malt, subtle caramel, citrus, grapefruit and a little pine. Wouldn't say this is a lager, nice hoppy beer.
3.6 Can from Target in San Jose, CA. Aroma is classic stone malt / bread / mango hops. Taste is sweeter than expected, light bread - maybe some shortbread cookies, tangy and chalky mango. A little sweet but a unique take on a lager (I’m sure purists would disagree)
3.6 Can from 100 pív. Nice crispy IPL. Full of citruses and India flavors. Good one.
3.5 On tap, the first beer in my first flight since March, at Jacob’s Pickles. Pours clear straw. Fruity, peach, little tropical, clean finish. Medium body. Decent.

3.7 Can. Pours golden yellow with a thin white head. Aroma was tropical with citrus, pine and grass. Flavor was clean and crisp with tropical fruit, citrus, pale malts, pineapple and grass.
3.6 Tall 568ml can that pours a bright, pale golden colour with a big slightly off-white frothy cap, decent stay and some foamy lacing. Big hoppy nose of citrus zest with mild grassiness. The mouthfeel is smooth, and somewhat dry in the finish - for a lager. The taste is hoppier as well for the style, and the citrus notes lingers. Hints of tropical fruits all-around. Like a good American Pale Ale, but smoother with the bottom lager fermentation. Well done !
3.5 I pour a tall can of this that is not quite cold enough yet. Fairly clear amber, persistent white head. Aroma does contain some fine citrus and herbals along side the sweetness. Flavour is unexpectedly sweet, (tropical fruit and lime) but still has something of a Stone signature. Some decent fruit character (tropical vibe) and even a hint of mineral. Overall very light palate crushable for summer. Maybe not bad at cellar temperature. **** update I liked the second one better, but it's just a pale ale to me, in the overall roundness and hopping ****
3.5 568 ml can from the LCBO. Pours a clear golden colour with plus-sized white head. Aroma is tropical fruit with bread and a little citrus. Flavour has pineapple, grapefruit and honeydew with some breadiness. Body is medium. Nice.
3.6 12 oz can. Pours a pale bright gold with a dense white head. Scents of grass, yeast and malt. Malty and lemon with a nice hops finish. Medium carbonation and dry mouthfeel. Really good and drinkable.
3.0 Definitely not a lager, more like session IPA. Pours golden colour with average white head. Aroma and taste of tropical fruit with slight bitter finish to it.
2.7 From can to glass. Cracker and slight grass aroma. Fruit is restrained. Moderately low hazing with white head that lingers. Flavor is a bit of onion and grass. Dry finish of saltine crackers.
3.4 Can. A clear golden coloured beer with a white head. Aroma and flavour of hops, grass, malt, grapefruit, tropical fruit, citrus and with a bitter finish.
3.6 pretty good, hoppy and malty lager. Surprising.
