Stoudts Blonde Double Mai-bock

Stoudts Blonde Double Mai-bock

A rich, deep golden-blonde lager, Stoudt's version of the German classic style includes a generous amount of honey for added flavor notes. The full-bodied Mai-bock beer is significantly stronger than Stoudt's Gold Lager. Brewed with the finest German 2-row malt and a subtle, yet noticeable touch of noble hops, this year-round beer was traditionally made to cut through the chill of early spring.

3.1 12oz bottle. Pours a hazy deep gold color with a frothy one finger white head, that disapates quickly. It has a light aroma of sweet toasted malts and breadiness. The taste starts with biscuity sweet malts that turn to crisp floral hops, that finish with a sharp perfumey bitter dry bite.
3.0 I wouldn’t say a deep golden blonde but certainly a nice bock with buttery notes, perhaps a slightly elevated alcohol content. On tap at Jean Bonnet Tavern
3.2 Draft: Poured a golden yellow with a nice head. The aroma was honey and floral. The flavor was good, sweet malts, citrus and flowers. Overall, a decent brew.
3.0 Enjoyed via 12oz bottle. To be honest, I was rather dismayed by this one. Stoudts has a great reputation for well-interpreted beers, and I founds this example lacking. Pours a straw-colored yellow, as expected. Nose is bland, just a bit of malt, but no detectable Munich maltiness. One dimensional again on the palate, tasting sweet, but without identifiable character. Finishes clean. Overall, it definitely tasted like a double-American Blonde...but certainly not a Mai-bock.
3.6 On tap, Eli Cannon’s. Pours a light orange-gold. Aroma is flowery hops, sweet fruit, and some malt sugar. Palate was smooth, with enough body to support the full flavors of this beer. I tasted ripe fruit, citrus-esque hops, and some biscuit notes. Pretty solid effort by Stoudts.
2.9 Remember this one being extremely thin bodied and honey everywhere. Pours a clear yellow, tastes of honey and beer. Really thats all here. Decent, but not a great beer I’d go to often.
3.4 Draft. Pours a copper body with a white head. Chewy caramel malt with some fruity esters. Hints of toffee and lagered notes. Rounds out with some dry earth. Decent brew.
2.9 Pours golden color. Thin white head. Decent lacing. Yeasty, slightly hoppy finish. Not what I was expecting, but a descent offering.
3.6 12oz bottle: Shimmering golden pour with a thick, creamy white that does settle eventually. The aroma is grainy from the start, lots of earthy hay, cereal grain, grape nuts, granola. A blanket of ether sits atop as does a touch of grassiness. The body is nice and creamy, offering more depth to the malt profile. Addtional notes of muddled caramel, sweet toffee, wet straw, clover honey. Again, the hops and alcohol add a touch of influence, but this really is about the malts. Nice.
3.3 12 oz bottle. Clear golden with some orange hues, small retaining off white head. Aroma of light noble hops, as well as some pale malts and light honey. Taste is malty with some honey and biscuity malts- lightly bready, medium bodied, with a nice dose of noble hop bitterness in the finish.
3.7 (Bottle). Aroma of aromatic hops and slight malt, a touch of sweet citrus. Honey gold body, creamy off-white head. Flavor a delicious blend of semi-sweet malt, subtle honey, and fruit. Clean finish with a trace of bitterness. Excellent.
2.4 I thought it had a really funky aroma, almost like barley that is malting. The taste was way on the malty side, which was appropriate for style.
3.6 Translucent orange pour. Nose is honey and sweet malts. Flavour follows suit with some near belgian bubblegum and alspice. Chalky, yet pleasant finish. Very good.
3.9 Pours gold with an awesome carbonation that lasts forever. The aroma is hoppy with some malty notes. The beer is strong but you would not realize it is 7% at first. There are some strong sweet caramel notes along with a piney hop presence and a very up-front bitterness. The beer finishes much sweeter than it starts out. A good beer, but I could not drink much of this at one time.
3.1 Pours a light gold with little head. Aroma is caramely and sweet. Flavor is bready and very sweet, with little hoppiness. Alcohol is noticeable. Finishes dry and tangy. Alright.
3.4 bottle poured a golden in color with heavy carbonation and a white frothy one finger head with good retention. aroma has pilsner malt, honey, light spice, and some minerals. mouth feel is light with frothy carbonation. flavor has some surprising bitterness from the hops, honey sweetness, light floral, and again some minerals. tastes like a souped up golden ale and is good for summer drinking. just the right sweetness to keep me going.
2.9 Clear gold pour grassy aroma. Alcohol well masked, however I found this beer rather boring. Maybe I missed out on the freshness factor.
2.8 Pours a clear gold with a white head and smells like a regular lawnmower beer. Nice citrus nose, and kind of a mild honey and hops afte taste. A little off balance with the hops comming out after the flavor has fadded, leaving a alcohol taste that forces you to take another drink to get rid of it. But easy drinking and goes down fast enough to start the night in a hurry. Would buy again, but only if it cheap.
3.4 12oz bottle from Total Wine (Tampa). Pours a mostly clear dark gold with a white head (one finger) that recedes slowly. Hints of citrus, spice and bread in the nose. This beer is medium-bodied but still slightly watery with notes of honey sweetness, grass and hops in the flavor. Slightly bitter, hoppy finish.
2.0 I am not by any means a hops fan... this one had a lot in it. Aroma is slightly bitter, resembling corn and grass. A VERY grassy beer and bitter, too. Mid-Amber color, thin head that slightly laces the glass. Not too good on the palate... nope. I’m not a fan.
3.0 Tap at Ginger Man. Deep golden beer, thick white head. Aroma is quite nice and clean. Pale malt, crisp noble hops and a soft bready maltiness. A little bit of sweetness up front but is controlled by the peppery boozy bite on the back. Pretty decent, but a little bit too boozy tasting, especially as it warms up.
3.7 Bottle - nice gold with a white head and some lacing. Honey and hop blend on the nose and leads into the pallet. Nice pleasant taste, creamy and malty with great body and texture. Refreshing!
3.5 Okay beer with a hint of honey, some grass, well hidden alcohol and a smack of some bitterness of hops in the finish. Not very sweet and malty but it seems well balanced even though I thought it would deliver more flavor than what I got. Bottle from Sabatinis in Exeter, PA.
3.7 bottle from afireinside96. thanks bro! smelled like honey and hops. kind of smelled like sour fruit too but not too much. very cloudy gold color with a full white head. nice lacing on this. tatsed a bit hopy but not too much. just right for my liking. very smooth and rich and I was not expecting that.nice malty finish/a little thin for my liking but good no doubt.
3.3 golden yellow appearance with decent white head. moutfeel is thick. flavor is strong with pale malt maybe some munich. some hop bitterness with a dry finish. a nice version of the style.
3.0 bottle. smells of yeast and citrus to an extent. thinner flavor than i expected. brown fruit like dates, raisins and figs. sweet and mealy on the palette. malt disappears quickly. not bad, but not particularly exciting.
3.5 12oz bottle. Orange/golden color, fluffy white head, some sticky lacing. A rich brew, full flavored, medium/full body... grassy hops, bready, honey, subtle spices, and a pretty aggressive finish of alcohol. Bold but still retains a lot of lager characteristics- very drinkable. I’m a fan.
3.1 Pours hazy gold with decent, though, unsustainable white head. Sweet hop aroma, somewhat piney. Hop bitterness is very well balanced with the malty backbone of this beer. Medium going on medium-full body. Smooth pleasant finish.
3.2 12oz bottle. pours golden color. Aroma of fruit and malt. hints of honey. medium bodied.
3.4 Good beer, its strong golden blonde look and fruity malts gives the beer real character. the rest of the beer has a strong flavors that will make any beer drinker a satisfying drink.
