Stoudts Double IPA

Stoudts Double IPA

Stoudt's Double IPA is a strong, full-bodied ale with an intense hop character and deep golden color. This unusual brew is characteristic of the newly recognized style of extremely hoppy and malty ales of American origin. The Double IPA is our strongest beer with an alcohol of over 10% abv and bitterness of more than 75 IBU's. Multiple kettle hop additions and generous dry hopping contribute to the powerful yet smooth and fragrant hop character of this beer. 10% abv.

4.0 cloudy amber color; citrusy, floral hop aroma with alcohol notes; nice fruity, citrusy hop flavor with a medium bodied, sweet malt base
3.8 Solid dipa. Orange pour white head. Floral and fruit bowl aroma. Orange lemon and grass floral taste in a moderate body and carbonation. Tasty.
3.7 12 fl. oz. bottle. Pours a hazy orange colour with a thin white head. Aroma is floral, hops. Taste is same. Hops heaven!
4.0 Transfer from BA review on 9-13-12 - Poured from bottle into snifter Appearance – Pours a beautiful vibrant orange color with a small white head. The head fades rather fast to leave a decent level of lacing. Smell – The aroma is sweet and delicious. It’s sweetness is largest in a tangerine smell, but has other sweet smells of caramel, banana, and some tropical fruits. Along with the sweet is a nice bready aroma and some notes of a yeasty nature. Overall it is a wonderful smell. Taste – The taste begins of a big bready and malty flavor with hints of a the tropical fruit and tangerine are present. The bready and malty flavors create a base for the brew and remain rather constant throughout, but the fruit sweetness varies through the taste. The fruit initially starts light, grows stronger toward the middle, and then fades again toward the end. During the sweet flavor transitions the hop flavors transition as well. In the beginning there is a light citrus hop. More toward the middle of the taste more grapefruit and lemon citrus come to the tongue. In the end, the hop flavors increase again as some earthy hops join the mix. The combination of the malty, hoppy and light fruit are joined by a medium alcohol presence to leave a bitter hop and light tingling warmth on the tongue. Mouthfeel – At 10 % abv the body of the beer is medium with a carbonation level that is average. Overall –This beer has a very nice taste, smell and look. It’s pretty good stuff and well worth a try.
4.0 Radiantly floral on the nose with sweetness behind it. Pours a hazy caramel with diminishing and long lacing head. When this brew bursts on the palate it is all hops at first with varied but all floral hop character and sweetness from the well balanced malts. Finishes with a boozy burn and a clean palate. Whoa.
3.5 Bottle at James’s. Pours golden, very bitter and juicy, sweet toffee, quite nice.
3.1 Poured from a bottle given to my buddy Jeremy into a pint glass a nice honey orange color with a lightest beige head. Aroma is upfront sweet almost like honey. A touch of grassiness. Flavor really sweet which didn’t balance with the hops as well as other DIPA (and DIPAs are my jam so I have had quite a few) Don’t get me wrong this is well above average DIPA but it lacks the quality finish of a hops finish that better DIPAs have within their profile. Won’t run out & buy but not completely dissed by this brew.
3.1 Aroma ... not much. Appearance is a hazy honey color with a fluffy 1 finger head that hangs around a long time. Taste starts out great but fall short in the end. I pick up lager like flavors in this Double IPA. Palate is good. Overall pretty good but there are many better IPAs out there.
3.1 Interesting..very interesting. Alright so lets break this one down. I hear double IPA is start getting skeptical. The lines get blurred sometimes. Is it gonna be hoppy and balanced or some weird malty sweet mess. This one takes a bit. It needs to warm up. I was worried it was gonna be a weird mess but as it warmed to room temp it only got better. It’s boozy..10.6% rightfully so. It’s very hoppy. It’s clean and has a good bite. I really dig this beer. I’m surprised I didn’t try it sooner. I like the enamel eroding quality. Gives it a nice touch. Good stuff. Pennsylvania has a solid beer offering try this asap! This buzz though. Not a session beer.
3.3 bottle. Deep golden with small head. Pretty average DIPA. Medium malt body, substantial hops and a bit of booze.
3.1 Draft at Baggataway. Pours a cloudy orange with thin beige head. Aroma is caramel, toffee, alcohol, apricot. Sweet and caramel-ly. Medium body. Hot.
3.7 Bottle @All My Vinyl Tasting, Edinburgh. Pours golden, nice big chunky grapefruit on the nose, same thing going on with the taste with a bit of orange/citrus fruits going on, then you get this almost chocolate aftertaste which i’m guessing is the malts, its nice but a little odd.
3.7 Bottle at home. Pours clear gold, thin white head. Aromas of tropical fruit and smoke. Taste has warming alcohol, more hop bitterness and toffee. Spicy and lightly smoky finish. On the sticky side, but good.
3.2 Bottle at james... Golden amber... Big white head... Soft floral creamy toffee... Soft fruits
3.7 On draft @ Stoudts.Pours an amber color with quickly fading head. Sweet and fruity nose. Taste is borderline syrupy but not over the line. Non sticky mouthfeel
3.4 2oz sample at International Great Beer Expo (Meadowlands). Pours a hazy orange color with a small foamy head. Aroma of caramel malt, and orange citrus. Taste of rotted citrus, citrus zest, caramel malt, and a hint of sour lemon.
2.9 slight aroma of caramel/hay mixture, dark golden color, , white foam, heavy lacing, light sweetness, medium body, creamy palate. This IPA has a somewhat odd taste - malty and sweet going down with a long hop finish. I also attribute this to high alcohol content. When I drink a beer with a high content (this is 9.84% on the bottle) I can taste what I describe as the alcohol. Not bad - good for some slow sipping beer enjoyment.
3.0 Big flavor. Think Mad Elf without the cherries. Malty and sweet. Big yet smooth hops. There is a reason why they put elephants on the label- 300+ calories! Not a session beer. Enjoy one bottle at a time.
3.8 9/3/2010. From bottle. Cloudy amber orange color with a white head. Boozy aromas with malt, citrus, pine and tropical fruit. Bitter hoppy flavors with a boozy finish.
2.7 Pours a golden color with suspended cloud swirls with an off white, large, fluffy head. Lace snags and spiderwebs as the head subsides. Sweet toffee/caramel dominates the nose. Some subtle notes of citrus waft out of the glass as well. Full, smooth texture that becomes progressively astringent as the beer finishes. Pretty malty, but not as much as the nose would indicate. Some mildly tart citrus blends pretty nicely with the maltiness. Some zinc expresses itself as well. Nothing great. Certainly not worth the $14.50 I paid for the sixer.
3.4 A: Hazy Golden Straw Hue, Passes Some Light, Very Thin White Head Ring, Some Lacing S: Earthy, Clay, Mild Citrus T: Orange Juice, Mildly Malty M: Mediocre Carbonation, Light to Medium Bodied, Mildly Citrus Overall, I dont know if it is the most mildly balanced DIPA or a faux IPA with orange juice mixed in...make a decision and get back to me because whatever is playing the part of a DIPA is not cutting it and should be let go.
3.7 On tap. Hazy orange gold color. Small white head. Big pine, grapefruit nose. Bittersweet toasted malt flavor has nice notes of mango and and pine hops. Fruity a complex. Huge bitter, spicy dry hop finish.
4.4 apricot/mango slight pine-y a little wood (oak) really good...very good on initial 2-3 drinks, but then forward, loses it’s luster and could be a bit more heavy on hops. This is being a little critical...it’s really, really good!
3.5 Serving: 12 oz. bottle from State Line Liquors. It pours a hazy reddish color with a small off white head. The nose has an unusual fruity aroma. Not quite tropical. A good bit of caramel as well. The flavor leans towards the sweet side with overripe orange and that weird fruity note that I can’t quite place. Medium to full body with a medium to long finish. While solid, for some reason this one didn’t wow me.
3.6 Bottle. Big and bold taste, with hints of citrus, booze, pine and wood. Nice DIPA.
3.9 Pours golden amber with a thick off white head. Aroma is tropical mango-apricot and some light malts. Taste is sweet tropical flavors with a blast of pine and a bitter finish. This is a powerfully flavored DIPA!5
3.7 On tap at Joe Canals West Deptford. Appearance: The body is slightly hazy with an amber hue, the creamy head is light tan and has great retention. Aroma: The aroma is caramel and bright orange, perhaps peach too. Taste: Very nicely balanced with only a slight hint of alcohol on the finish. Big malty body is balanced by orange and peach hop flavor and a light bitterness. Palate: Medium body bordering on thick with soft carbonation. Overall: This is a really good IIPA that I’ve been passing up for a while. I won’t any more.
3.4 Bottle to glass. Pours a clear light amber orange color with a moderate off-white head. The aroma is a bit off-putting, almost soapy/musty, with a slight hint of citrusy hops. Flavor more than makes up for it though. Well balanced citrusy hop bitterness with a light malt and fruity sweetness. Light bitterness and heavy fruity sweetness linger in finish. Medium creamy body. I like drinking this, but if it weren’t for the aroma, I would have rated this beer much higher.
3.4 Bottle..Pour is gold with a white head..Nose is juicy hops, pine, tropical fruits, nice malt..Taste is pine, hops, citrus fruits, nice malt backbone, fruits..
4.0 Excellent IPA. Sweet grapefruit, citrus melody plays across the palate with invigorated carbonation. Awesome beer
