3.1 From BA review on 2-4-12 - Served in a pint glass. Appearance – Pours a reddish-copper color. The head is small and quick to fade giving very little lacing. Smell – A bit of sweet malty breadiness and caramel is mixed with a very light floral hop aroma. The aroma is nothing too potent and quite subdued. Taste – A somewhat biscuit maltiness first meets the tongue. There is a bit of sweetness; mainly caramel in character but mixed in with a bit of of grassy hoppiness. The hopiness increases to some degree with the loss of much of the sweetness. At the end there is a lingering more bitter malt mixed with hop flavor. Mouthfeel – Light and rather crisp with an average carbonation level; both of which lend to it being very easy to drink, yet sorta simple and boring. Overall – Its rather average in my opinion. I would have it if offered to me, but wouldn’t go out of my way to get it.
3.8 On tap at Jackpot in Gallery Place, Washington, DC. Clear, dark amber-brown with a khaki head and very good lacing. Aroma of caramel, bread, earthy spicy hops, mango, citrus and peach. Taste of toffee, brown bread, citrus, earthiness, peach and light tropical fruit with a malty finish. Full/medium body and medium/low carbonization with a smooth, rich mouthfeel. This is much hoppier than I remember--with more hops and bitterness than a typical ESB. For that matter, it's maltier than a typical ESB too. Overall, it's a delicious, full flavor ale even if not perfectly true to style.
3.5 Pours amber-red, two finger head with light lacing. Aroma is herbal and floral. Taste of nice roasted malt sweetness, very nice earthy/flowery bitterness from the hops. Note of bread and mango. Medium carbonation, body is on the high side of light. Finishes slightly bittersweet and dry. Good ESB.
3.3 bottle. Amber with small head. Medium caramel malt with a bit of spice and moderate hops in the finish. Slightly aboverage.
3.3 Pours an amber brown. Lots of lacing. Spices, malt, cloves, cinnamon on the nose. Sweet, citrus notes, straw. An okay ESB.
3.0 Stoudts Scarlet Lady ESB is an English style ESB. It has an amber/reddish color and a medium head. It starts with a slightly sweet maltiness and finishes with a hoppy bitterness and a slight floral aroma.
3.3 A nice ESB. Not extremely bitter, but a good example of a flavorful PA local craft.
2.7 Bottle. This is a pretty lackluster bitter. The malt to hop balance was tilted to far towards the bitter for my taste.
3.6 Draft @ Stouds. Love this stuff. Beautiful Dark Reddish amber color with scant head and mild hop aroma. Taste is clean with a solid but not beefy malt base and some hops. Hops are much noticable in the slightly bitter after taste. Smooth and light Mouthfeel. Hands down the most sessionable beer I have ever had the pleasure of drinking. I could drink 2 or 20 of these.
3.1 Amber color. Bitter and nutty. Chewy. Earthy. Tea leaves. Easy drinking. Nice.
3.3 Good amber, on tap at Boston bar, creamy, light finish, very good amber though with a solid namr
3.6 Dark amber color, no head or lacing to speak of. Malty with a bit of hop bitterness mid-taste. Okay ESB.
3.4 Not bad. Very aromatic and nice to drink. Was not extremely bitter but still have those touches.
4.1 Great smooth beer. Goes down very easily. Would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a great beer.
2.8 Bottle shared at a tasting at kerenmk’s place. Pours red with a nice beige head, aroma of hops, honey, caramel, orange, flavor is bitter with caramel dark bread and grapefruit bitterness, medium bodied
3.1 At a tasting, thanks zvikar, small creamy head, deep hazy orange colour, aroma of hay and nuts with some caramel, flavour of caramel, hay with some graininess and a touch of metal, strong and a touch coarse bitterness. Quite nice.
3.0 Bottle sample at a tasting at kerenmk’s place. Thanks zvikar. Hazy amber. Aroma of malt, caramel, light fruitiness, cardboard notes and floral and earthy hints. Flavor has some sweetish malt, a bit caramelly and a bit biscuity, finishes bitter and hoppy with some earthy hops. Medium-bodied. OK,
3.4 Very good and boring. Nice malt flavor with some fruits. Finishes nicely in the bitter style with some slight hop flavor left on the mouth. Beer has a lot of nice subtle flavors. Not too exciting of a style but this beer has enjoyable complexities.
3.2 Rich amber body, large off-white head, fairly dense lacing. Pale malts, touch of toffee, light fruits. A bit sweet, thin in the middle, light bodied, soft finish.
3.4 Tap. Pours clear amber with thick, creamy off-white head; good retention and lacing. Aroma is toasted, cookie, and caramel malts, figs, floral hops, and light woody notes. Flavor is smooth with dry, bready malts, dark fruit esters, woody notes, and light floral hops, and some light funk; dry finish. Medium body and low carbonation.
3.6 Stoudt’s Scarlet Lady ESB has a thin, off-white head, some sheen of lacing left on the glass, and a brilliant, bubbly, off-white head. The aroma is of brown bread crust and dank fruit. Taste is of brown bread crust, some sugar, a little bitterness, and tannin. The mouthfeel is light to medium, and Stoudt’s Scarlet Lady ESB finishes dry, refreshing, and highly drinkable. The tannin aspect holds it back a bit, but it’s still very good and worth checking out. RJT
3.6 12 ounce bottle. Served in a Sam Adams Perfect Pint glass, the beer pours a slightly hazy reddish/amber color with a half inch off-white head that stayed around for a little while. There’s also a good amount of lacing. The brew smells like tart apples, herbal/floral hops and some caramel malt. It tastes like herbal/floral hops, toasted and bready malt, tart apples, and some nuts and tea. Mouthfeel/body is medium, it’s a bit slick with moderate carbonation. I think it’s a solid beer, it’s definitely worth a try.
3.2 Pours a clear amber/caramel color wit a medium tan head. Aroma has light caramel/roast notes and very mild floral hops. Flavor follows suit...some dry leaves and tea...biscuity...earthy bitterness. mouthfeel is light and the finish is caramel/toffee/dry leaves and bitter/dry.
2.4 Bottle to glass shaker. Pours a couldy amber color. This might be skunked, I don’t know. Kinda bitter and a bit on the too much carbonation side. Some hop flavors, and a sorta orange peel twang. Different.
2.6 Pours woody-red-brown with an off-white head. Scent is mildly malty, faint caramel... Taste is straightforward and plain.. Mild hop bitter, weak caramel.... Tastes OK, but weak and watery... Forgettable.
4.0 draft, one of my favorites. Copper/reddish in color, typical Stoudts brew--well balanced, good flavors of malt/hops. Light to medium body, medium sweetness, medium bitterness on the finish.
2.8 Overall average ale. No sign of hops, and something about the finish I didn't like. Drinkable, decent malty, kind of floral aroma and taste, but I probably won't order again
3.0 Red copper colored beer. Hardly any head. Mild fruitiness in the nose. Some malts too. Dry taste. A bit empty. Notes of hops in the aftertaste. Nothing special.
4.0 12 ounce bottle into pint glass, best before 9/28/2012. Pours lightly hazy orange copper color with a nice 1-2 finger dense off white head with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Some good foamy lacing clings to the glass. Aromas of caramel, orange, biscuit, nuttiness, toast, herbal, grass, and light earthiness. Damn nice aromas with good strength and balance. Taste of caramel, biscuit, toast, nuttiness, orange, herbal, floral, grapefruit, grass, and light earth. Lingering notes of caramel, toast, biscuit, nuttiness, herbal, and citrus on the finish for a good bit. Very well balanced with nice amount of toasty flavors. No cloying flavors on the finish at all. Medium carbonation and body; with a lightly creamy mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is well hidden with zero warming noticed on the finish. Overall this is a damn nice ESB! Very flavorful and well balanced; very smooth and drinkable. No complaints at all, really enjoyed this.
3.0 Nose is soft malts. Taste is the same with English hops providing a nice bitterness. The mouthfeel is fairly thin a is the finish.
