Struise Black Albert

Struise Black Albert

This Belgian Royal Stout was brewed as a tribute to one of America’s best pubs. Jennifer and Chris Lively who run the place may be proud of Ebenezer’s Pub. Not only do they have 35 beers on draught, most of these are hard to find Supreme Belgian Ales. Above that, they have one of the most extensive bottle-conditioned beer lists through different bottling dates we have ever seen. Not only can you drink almost any Belgian beer, the worlds best brewery’s are represented. A lot of the guests talk about the American Kulminator, yet with that difference that the Belgian inspired food, is simply great.

Black Albert was brewed and crafted with a 100% Belgian ingredients. Pours a blacker than black beer with an inch of dark tan head that lingers as it cascades into itself. Nice aroma of bitter-sweet chocolate, fresh torrified coffee beans, barley, candy sugar, complex fruits, and floral hops. At the front, there is spiced baker’s chocolate, fresh mocha, caramel like barley touches, and underlying hints of dried fruits which marries the back of your palate and features a Top, and well integrated but not overbearing hop flavour. The after-taste is well balanced and shows a panorama of extreme sensations like chocolate and coffee bitters, a plum cake richness that covers the palate, and a crisp impression of hop bitters that brings elegance and freshness into this massive brew. 4.4 Dark brown, almost black. With a thin tan head. Aroma: Malt: Roasted, tobacco, licorice, caramel. Hops: Dark berries. Mouth: Starts out sweet and fruity before bitterness takes over in a delightful lingering finish. Licorice. Full body. Moderate carbonation. Smooth moutfeel.
4.0 Smells malty with dried fruit. Flavour is dried fruit, loads of malt, chocolate, loads of booziness, a little anise. Rich and tasty and very boozy. Nice but dangerous.
3.9 Bottle from Brewcraft at home. Pitch black pour with minimal carbonation, head. Aroma is dark and roasty, with cherry, wood, alcohol, chocolate, alcohol, caramel. Taste is sweet boozy bitterness, some spice, wood, dried dark fruit, lots of burnt sugar. Rich leathery finish. Lots going on. Steers clear of cloying. Little to no carbonation. Definitely worth a try. Good combo of Belgian-y and more American style. The sweetness makes it more like the former, which is not my favorite.
3.9 Drank on week 24 (5.5 months) with R. Pours a thick opaque brown-black with swirly tan-beige slightly sudsy head. Aroma: molasses, baking chocolate, biscuity and doughy and roast malts, dried red fruits, yeast, barley, light stone/metallic and sarsaparilla, bit of oak/wood. Tonnes going on in the nose. Complex, fruity, Taste: roasted malts, milk and dark chocolate, Belgian yeast, some grassiness, port/dessert wine, red and dark fruit (cherry, plum, figs), light banana, sticky bread/cake, spices. Sweet, with low bitterness to balance, finish is fruity and spicy. Body: medium, gentle carbonation, a little bit of oiliness/slickness. Warming booze. Very big. Nice marriage of Belgian + stout flavours although more tilted towards the Belgian.
4.2 4/3/2022. Bottle courtesy of Jean-Baptiste, huge thanks. 2015 Vintage. Pours black with a small bubbly/frothy tan coloured head. Aroma of dark chocolate, roasted malt, toffee, dark fruits, honeycomb, touch of ash. Medium sweetness, medium roasted bitterness. Full bodied, very smooth, super soft carbonation. Very nice.
3.9 Bevuta in bottiglia. Ottima stout dai buoni aromi.
Gebrande koffie geur. Fles ‘21 XII # Proefglas

4.4 Bottle from Dranken Verheyen in Poppel, Belgium. The beer is black colored with a stable cappuccino foam. Carbonation is good. The aroma is malts, caramel, roasted, dried fruits, oak, brown sugar, coffee, cacao and spices. The taste is full bodied and sweet with caramel, dried fruits and roasted malts and goes to pretty bitter with oak, coffee, cacao and spices. The finish is dry, bitter with some nice warming alcohol. Excellent beer.
3.6 Zwart bier met een bruine schuimkraag die snel verdwenen is. Geuren zijn nootachtig, geroosterd, koffie. Smaak heeft bijna iets scherps door de geroosterde smaken.
3.9 Black colour with a large creamy head. Aroma: roasted malt, dried plums and berries, molasses, cacao, brown sugar, oak, some metallic aroma, burnt wood, hint of bourbon and some alcohol. Taste: roasted malt, chocolate, cacao, cacao nibs, dried plums, some fermented plums, raisins, some alcohol, hint of oak and some coffee bitterness. Medium dry work some sweet notes.

4.3 Bottle from Knightly Spirits in Orlando, FL. Aroma is dark breads, dark fruits, molasses, treacle, coffee. Taste is tangy dark things (bread, chocolate, spiced fruits, molasses). An incredible blend of ancient Belgian charms and new-school euro Stoutness.
3.8 Fantastic mix of belgian and stout, super clean. Dry, but phenol driven with some roast malts , strong but super drinkable. Zilt ams
4.2 Pours dark black with no head. Soft initial mouth feel. Slightly boozy finish. Aromas of coffee and roast. Vintage 2015
4.3 A 330ml bottle, 2020 vintage, bottled on 18th March 2021, with a best before date of bottled date +5 years. Poured into a De Struise tulip glass. It was black in colour with a nice big three finger brown head that had decent retention while leaving some lacing. Aromas of roasted malts, coffee, chocolate, cola, with notes of licorice, berries, and caramel. Tastes lightly bitter, roasty coffee, dark chocolate, candi sugar sweetness, dark stone fruit, plum, prunes, with notes of berries and maybe licorice. Smooth, creamy, full bodied, with soft carbonation. Overall an excellent sipper with alcohol well hidden. Good bitter and sweet balance.
4.1 Bottle. Pours black with a small light head. Aroma is cacao, dark malts, molasses, caramel. Big body. Flavour is complex dark malts, chocolate, coffee, caramel, molasses. Lovely roast and malt character.
4.3 Dark black with no head. Nice aroma of bitter-sweet chocolate, fresh torrified coffee beans, complex fruits, red wine and port. Taste is spiced chocolate, coffee, caramel like barley, red wine, port, underlying hints of dried fruits and a slight hop backbone. Bold and a completely different kind of beer!
3.8 Black with minimal beige head. Aroma of intresting berry fruits combined with roast and licorice. Taste follows the aroma: Roasty malts with berries, licorice. Finishes with herbal hops. Medium body, average carbonation. Very nice
4.1 Copenhagen 5/3 2021. 33 cl bottle from Den Belgiske Ølbutik, Jyllingevej, Vanløse. Strange drawing on the label of figure with sad eyes shrouded in grey. Pours opaque, dark brown with a small, lightly beige head. Settles as Sall patches of foam and thin rim of foam running along the side of the glass. No lacing. Aroma is intense with a dark sweetness laden with alcohol. Roasted dark malts. Fermented fruit. Plums, raisins. Brown sugar in abundance. Dark chocolate and bitter coffee. Whiff of liqueur-like alcohol. Light carbonation. Thick, viscous, soft, almost flat texture. Flavor is intense with a very strong sweetness followed by a boozy burn. A medium strong bitterness times in after a while. Aftertaste is bitter with a sour twist. Lingering. Finish is quite dry and laden with alcohol. Satisfying very Imperial Stout succeeding in being both very sweet, adequately bitterness and a healthy dose of alcohol.
4.1 Old note, for counting purpose : Bottle of 33cl, in a Trappist glass; from the fridge. We're in front of a black beer with a beige head. Roasted coffee and chocolate aroma and taste. For a 13% beer, it does not taste too much of alcohol. Good
3.6 33 cl bottle. Black Albert Batch 0 2020. Black, thin collar. Smells of milk chocolate, alcohol, cola. Tastes of sweet milk chocolate and cola. Some roasty malts and a hefty dose of alcohol. Heavy, sweet. Tingly booze. Not quite how I remember it. But still good. Kinda American-tasting.
4.5 09-01-2021 @mas_ibus Torrelavega Color negro azabache. Aroma a chocolate negro. Sabor a cacao, café tostado, ciruelas, pomelo, regaliz, humo y toffe.
4.2 33 cl. bottle @ home, bought @ van Rooij, Culemborg. Black with a beige head. Gentle roasted malt aroma with some chocolate. Sweet taste with a very light sour note and a long smooth finish. Alcohol is very well hidden. Great Belgian stout.
3.6 Batch 0. Bought in Bruges a long time ago and sat in the garage for years. Nothing better to do tonight so I popped its lid. Pours like tar. Looks like Bisto gravy. Tastes rich, prunes and succulent raisins. Low hopping, short bitterness on finish. Warming in the mouth.
