Struise Black Damnation III - Black Mes

Struise Black Damnation III - Black Mes

The Black Damnation series is a dark twist of Urban’s mind. His idea is to realize a dozen beers with the use of Black Albert, and over a period of two years, that are as black as hell, filthy rich in the nose and with a massive taste.

Black Damnation III was made with Black Albert that aged for 3 months on Paul Melia’s (Mes) favorite Whisky, the "Caol Ila’s Distillers Version 1995".

4.1 Black, lasting small beige head. aroma has malt, wood and whisky, a hint of smoke. sweet flavour, heahy malty, licorice and whisky. Smooth, oily.
4.1 Bottle from HavnensVin&Tobak. Pours opaque black with small light brown head. Aroma is intense oak barrel, apple core, vanilla, freshly ground coffee, espresso, roated malt, soy sauce, figs, prunes, old tawny port wine and dark chocolate. Taste is medium to very sweet, light bitter, light acidic and faint salty. Body is oily with fizzy carbonation. Finish is long and mostly sweet with lemonish acidity and liquorice-like saltyness and intense notes of oak, vanilla, malt whisky, dried fruit, coffee, chocolate and light notes of lactose.
3.2 Aroma of alcohol and dark malt. Taste of coffee, chocolate, dark malt and alcohol. Okay bitter that fills the whole mouth an eternity. Good beer. Follow me @ Kung av öl @ Facebook for more pictures and ratings.
3.9 Tasted as Struise Black Damnation III - Black Mess (Aged for 2 years in peated whisky barrels). Black color, minimal brown head. Aromas of roasted malt, molasses, coffee, soy, cacao and slight whisky. Taste of alcohol, peat, licorice, coffee, cacao and slight soy.
3.9 330ml bottle. Pours jet black with a small head. Aroma is meaty peat, a little iodine and dark chocolate. Taste has meaty peat and some blackcurrant. Boozy.
Beczka subtelna.
4.1 Black with a beige, foamy, good lacing head. Aroma of roasted malt and notes of whisky. Dry finish and great aftertaste. #500
4.1 Pours a pitch-black coloration with a small, creamy head. Smells, of roasted, slightly caramelly and peated malt, with notes of chocolate, dark fruit and hints of licorice and charred oak. Taste is a great balance of roasted, caramel, peated malt and distinct chocolate and licorice, as well as lighter dark fruit, with notes of fig and raisin, brown sugar and just a hint of vanilla, clove, charred oak and peat coming through as well. Finishes bittersweet, with a light bitterness and some chocolate, dark fruit and spices lingering in the aftertaste. Full mouthfeel with a rich body and light carbonation. While this makes for an enjoyable barrel-aged variant of Black Albert, I was a little disappointed by how little peat is coming through here for being aged in Caol Ila barrels for two years. Maybe those barrels were old and dry? I don't know, but there certainly isn't as much barrel character coming through here as I would have hoped for, with this kinda reminding me of a just very slightly more boozy, charred and smoky version of regular Black Albert, with those chocolate, dark fruit, brown sugar and spice notes still very much dominating. Overall, this still makes for a very enjoyable beer due the excellent base stout, but I really would have wished for a richer barrel character here.
4.0 Black with a medium sized, medium density brown head. low carbonation. Aroma: Whisky, coffee. roasted malt and smoke. Taste: Bittersweet with a malty finish
3.9 Bottle 33 cl. Dark brown color. Aroma: sweet and rich, barrel, caramel, poppy seed pies, chocolate, vanilla, whiskey, dried fruit, a little smoke. Taste: sweet, barrel, whiskey, dried fruit, prunes, a little burnt, smoke, good.
4.2 33 cl bottle from Labirratorium, served in a huge snifter, as the style begs. It pours a glossy, jet black pour with a tan to sienna, thick head. Not a lot of lacing, medium retention. Aroma is intense roast and char: cocoa, black chocolate, firepit, burnt wood, black ink, peat... Even though I try hard to find them, no sign of fruits, not even dry black ones. This is fire and mineral, like an ale for the Balrog in the mines of Moria. It begins quite sweetish, thick and strong, leading to a velvety and umami midpalate. No salt, no metal, no dryness. Mouth-covering, low carbonation, delivering a tremendously bitter and long-lasting finish with renewed tinges of burnt coal and fireplace. Not for the faint, this is one to be sipped slowly, paying attention, taking your time. And, if possible, by the fire in wintertime.
3.7 It’s not super clean, it’s hazy and a bit muddled. Disappointing with these ratings. Very fresh beer, only bottled 3 months ago. It’s just not a classical imp stout, it’s got the belgian yeast contribution, which is a little mis-paired. Online saveurbier
3.7 Botella de 33 cl. Fecha de embotellado 14/01/21. Vintage 2018. Aroma a café, cacao, uvas pasas, turba, madera. Sabor a café, pasas, cacao, azúcar moreno, madera, ahumado suave.
4.0 Noire, bonne mousse beige.
4.0 33cl bottle vintage 2018 bottled 14/1/2021. Pours pitch black with light neige disappearing head. Peat and coffee on the nose. The peat gives an extra dimension to the coffee/dark chocolate. From the BA the peat is clearly noticeable, the whisky, as with the other 2 new 33cls, less.
2.7 De Hopt. En copa Teku. Con queso de Codi. Jugando a Fortnite.
4.0 Bottle at home, bottled /1/21. Very dark brown, foamy beige head. Chocolate, espresso, vanilla, a tat hoppy, some whiskey, faint smokey tone - a tat young and un-complex but balanced. Medium-good body, low carbonation.
4.0 Bottled, 330ml a gift from Derek, many thanks for this. Thick black pour with bright tan head. Rich and viscous on the palate, the Black Albert beer is the obvious underlying beer but with possibly stronger notes of coffee and chocolate. Big and rich throughout. Some blackberry, blackcurrant. Very good indeed.
4.2 Bottle, through Koelschtrinker, thanks! BB 2015. Rich and thick, lots of coffee, also some booze and barrel. Held up well. Strong, but not overdone. Very good!
2.6 29.05.2019, 0,33l bottle (best before 03.2015) shared @ BBGTC tasting: Nice light brown bubbly-creamy mediumlasting head. Aroma is slightly dry sour-ish mineraly, oak, old rope, bark, minerals, soil, dark malts, mild peat, alcohol, hints of salty licorice. Taste is slightly dry sour-ish mineraly, soil, bark, minerals, dark malts, alcohol, mild peat, dark sugar, old rope, grass, fruit stones, paper, hints of ashes. Medium bitterness, slightly watery and harsh sour-ish mineraly mouthfeel. Boring.
4.3 Pours coffee with a thin beige head. Aroma yields caramel and roast malt. Sweet flavor features earthy, caramel, roast malt and molass tones. Texture presents firm body and jazzy fizz. Be damned!
