4.0 Dark brown color, with no head. Aroma ofchocolate, whisky, coffee, roasted walnuts. Taste is dried fruits, walnut/nutty notes, alcohol, vanilla, whiskey/liquor. Medium body, less chewy than others of this kind. Low carbonation. Very nice beer.
4.0 Aspect : brune foncé, quelques mm de mousse persistants. Senteurs : alcool, fruits confits, caramel. Saveurs : du rôti, du whisky, du bois, un peu de chocolat, de citron et des épices. Carbo plutôt vive, grosse amertume étonnante, (un peu) trop d'alcool. Originale comme toutes les "Struise"
4.0 Újabb bandatag a Black Damnation szekcióból, ezúttal egy stout-ba oltott IPA képében. Ehhez mérten törnek utat az aromák is a kólaszínű testből, egyszerre pirított, ragacsos, s zölden, fenyősen komlós buké. Kortyai teltek, az előzményekhez igazodva édeskés nyitásúak, gazdagon malátásak, majd némileg mogorva, kissé karcos kesernyével operáló IPÁ-hoz mért lecsengésűek. Különleges egyveleg, amolyan ivósör jellegű keveréknek is tűnhetne a két típus házasságából, hacsak nem pillantanánk rá a címkén jelzett alkoholfok mértékére, amit kortyolása közben szinte lehetetlen észrevenni.
3.7 Bottle. Color clear dark brown colour with medium light brown head. Aroma malt, roasted, hoppy, alcohol, pine, grapefruit. Taste sweet, bitter, alcohol, some hoppy, malt.
3.2 330 mL bottle. Pours deep brown. Smells of roasted malt, cola, some hops, hints of bourbon. Tastes of bourbon much more strongly here, but still nothing like I expect from a bourbon BA beer. Grapefruit hops brighten it. Roasted malt. Spike in sweetness in the finish that brings back the cola flavors. Medium heavy. Not my favorite variant, but it's ok.
3.8 Hop aroma, coffee, bourbon, spicy. Absolutely dark with good fine-grained foam. On the palate, a slight sweetness turns into a hoppy aftertaste. Medium body, medium carbonation.
4.0 Bottle 0.33 l. Dark bronze colur, almost clear, creamy foam. Good aroma: hops, herbs, spicy, bourbon, sweetness, vanilla, caramel, grapefruit. Taste: bourbon barrels, oak, vanilla, grapefruit zest, strong bitterness, a little pepper, caramel, moderate sweet, original, but good.
4.0 Bottle, black beer, small head. Aroma is bourbon, roast, hops, citrus, dark fruit, chocolate, plums. Taste is the same, dark chocolate, sweet, dark fruit, dark chocolate bitterness, boozy, bitter dry aftertaste, some nutty almonds maybe? Very nice
3.8 On tap @De Struise Brouwers, Vleteren 2/10/2021 aged in bourbon barrels. Pours a quite dark brown with beige foam on top. Aroma of roasted malt and plums, dried fruits, boozy, caramel and barrel, quite resinous and hoppy. Taste is indeed intense with roasted malt, chocolate, caramel and lots of dried fruits notes, good warming bitter finish with a good bourbon note, very boozy at 13% abv. Lingering aftertaste of chocolate, sweet caramel and bitter hops. Medium full body, slick oily texture and average carbonation. Really good, fresh, strong and interesting hoppy bourbon barrels aged stout.
3.5 Rubinowe, klarowne, z obfitą, trwałą pianką. Pachnie rodzynkami, kandyzowaną papają, starym chmielem, drewnianą beczką. W ustach podobnie, półsłodkie, taniczne, lekko wręcz ściągające, z alkoholowym finiszem. Spora, pestkowo-migdałowa goryczka, zero waniliny. Średnie co2, lekko oleiste.
3.8 Bottle (thanks Sillu). Pitch black color. Sweet, alcohol, woody, oak, tannins, yarrow, herbal, smooth in aroma/taste.
3.9 Bottled at 13 % ABV. Appearance: cloudy deep brown with a moderate off-white head of medium retention. Aroma: toast and roast, dried fruit, oak barrel, almonds. Taste: light sweet, medium bitter. Dark malts, dried fruit, oak, chocolate, oak, floral hop. Mouth feel: medium minus body, soft carbonation. Overall: pretty good. Lacking body
3.8 Bottled 330ml. -from Ambasada Zagreb. Black coloured, minimal off-white head, chocolate and caramel in the nose. Light roasted malt, caramel, chocolate, noticable alcohol and touch of bourbonwith quite strong alco finish. 13.0%ABV
3.6 Aromat alkoholowy, melano, czekolady, chleba, karmelu, suszonych owoców, chmielu ziołowego, może nawet lekkich cytrusów. Beczki niestety niewiele. Barwa ciemna, pod światło rubinowa. Piana beżowa, drobno pęcherzykowa, umiarkowanej wielkości i podobnie trwała. Smak umiarkowanie słodki, złamany kwaskowością i alkoholem. Chleb, karmel, melano, suszone owoce, chmiel ziołowy. Beczka niewyczuwalna. Goryczka chmielowo-alkoholowa, powyżej średniej, trochę zbyt długa. Pełnia wysoka, wysycenie średnie i goryczkowy finisz z wyraźną nutą alkoholową. Przeciętne
3.9 Bottle, 330 ml shared with Max, Miro B and kajser27. Brown with medium beige head. Chocolate, bourbon, medium bodied. Warming. Touch of alc in the background. Bitter finish.
3.7 33cl bottle at home, 2021 ed. Mahogany dark brown color, big creamy beige head. Fruity notes reminiscent of an IPA combined with coffee and dried fruity stout/quadrupel notes, light oaky, light barrel character, can't really get the bourbon tones, medium bitterness. Medium body and carbonation.
3.9 Pours dark brown with beige head, little carbonation. Hoppy IPA flavours with a little bourbon BA on the nose, maybe a little milk chocolate. Medium to full, creamy mouthfeel, bitter hop dominant, with a little milk chocolate and sweet bourbony finish. The high ABV is not that noticeable. The BA is subtle but present and well integrated.
4.2 Pours a cloudy, dark mahogany coloration with a reddish sheen and a small, fluffy head. Smells of roasted, caramel malt and bitter, resinous hops, as well as some chocolate, coffee, licorice and pine. Taste is an excellent balance of roasted, caramel malt and resinous, bitter, slightly fruity and herbal hops, with notes of chocolate, licorice, vanilla, grapefruit, pine and hints of bourbon-soaked oak. Finishes bittersweet, with a medium bitterness and some roasted malt, chocolate, grapefruit and pine lingering in the aftertaste. Smooth mouthfeel with a rich body and medium carbonation. I have to say that this blend of Stout and IPA to create a Black IPA is quite intriguing and works out absolutely great here, with this managing that balance between roasted malts and bitter hops just perfectly, while also managing quite a rich depth of flavor that is enhanced by the aging in bourbon barrels, which really adds another level of complexity to this with some vanilla and oak notes that complement the chocolate, coffe and licorice notes of the Stout wonderfully, while still being balanced very nicely by the bitter, resinous, citrus hops. Overall, this makes for a fantastic barrel aged Black IPA that is rich in character and very well-balanced at the same time. Since I absolutely love Black IPAs and can rarely get them, this has inspired me to blend my own in the future. I'm thinking Ale-Mania Old School and Sierra Nevada Narwhal, will see how it goes somewhere down the line!
4.0 Fles 33cl thuis. Vintage 2018. 2021 versie. 13%. IBU150. A Belgian Dark IPA. Supreme Hoppy Intensive Thing. Hoppig, bitter, Bourbon tonen, vol, roasted malts, plakkerig, boozy, koude koffie, wat donker fruit, licht bloemig. (4-6-2021).
3.8 0.33 l bottle from 'Ace Drinks', bottled in April 2021. Clear, very dark ruby to black with a thin, frothy, stable, beige head. Sweetish-malty, gently roasty, slightly fruity, minimally resiny aroma of caramel, dark chocolate, honey, pine and coffee. Rather sweet, malty, gently roasty, slightly fruity taste of dark chocolate, coffee, caramel, honey, vanilla and bourbon, followed by a long, quite roasty-bitter, slightly resiny, gently boozy finish. Medium to full body, smooth, slightly creamy and moderately effervescent mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Rich, saturating and intense brew, quite complex, a little clumsy and not overly sophisticated though.
3.8 Bottled 330ml (Beerdome) Dark brown colour, small beige head. Toasted, dark fruits, hops and alcohol in the nose. Medium-bodied. Toasted with toffee, dark fruits, hoppy bitterness and warming Bourbon. Not too heavy, very balanced mix.
3.6 33cl bottle. Pours dark brown with thick foam head. Aroma is sweetish, burnt caramel, some coffee. Flavor is quite bitter, while the body is mostly reminiscent of a Belgian quad; Quite bland and thin bodied. the bitterness is most of what’s driving this beer. I like the long lingering bitterness so not bothered by lack of depth in that sense although i would have liked more complexity.
3.8 Bottle from Drankenhandel Leiden. Aroma is roasted malt with hoppy notes, subtle Bourbon influence. Picking up chocolate, some fruity notes and alcohol. Flavour is moderate sweet and medium bitter. Body is above medium. Didn't expect the Bourbon to be so subtle after 2 years of aging.
4.2 One of the more limited first generation Black Damnations, a blend of Black Albert and Elliot Brew aged in bourbon barrels, with deliberately cheeky name; sample at Bumb3r, happy to be able to sample this years after it was released, I thought I would never catch up with this one. Pale greyish, moussy, ring-shaped but lacing open head on black beer with hazy burgundy edges. Aroma of lots of old dusty bitter black chocolate bars, butterscotch, whisky, earth, coffee grounds, dusty old wood, toasted walnuts, soggy brown bread, glue, tea. Dried fruit effects in the onset, dried blackberries and prunes, deep sourish undertone, softish carb, full and rounded, bit 'greasy' mouthfeel; deep nutty and bitter chocolatey maltiness with earthy-bready tail, wet chocolate bars, woody tannins and vanilla-ish oak, peppery-earthy bitter finish heated by whisky-like warming alcohol. Quite complex, interesting and beautifully aged, this is one of Struise's top beers from what is likely the most creative and glorious period in their existence so far. In all, clearly more Black Albert than Elliot Brew, though.
4.5 75cl bottle @Kraken, Oviedo. 15-03-2015. Pours black with nice frothy tan head. Moderate head retention, some lacing. Roasty, nuts, spicy and wood nose. Full bodied, soft carbonation, viscous texture. Taste is smooth, bitter, roasty, licorice, nuts, spicy. Quite robust and extremely enjoyable.
3.8 Sampled from bottle at Kingsnight Avoidance Tasting. Black with cream head. Roasted sweet chocolate malts. Quite hoppy. Quite alcoholic. Dark fruit. Over medium sweet, medium bitter. Medium body, nice.
3.6 Bottle at Kingsnight tasting. Black with small tan head. Coffee, lots of herbal hops, lime, dark chocolate, more herbs, toffee, light spices and alcohol. Medium sweet and quite bitter. Over medium bodied with slick feel.
3.7 75cl bottle shared at Kings Night Avoidance Tasting. Thin ring tan head. Clear black pour. Lots of bourbon
4.2 Bottle vintage 2012 from L’Abbaye des Saveurs (2014) - Color: deep dark black beer with no carbonation and medium brown head. Smell: roasted malt and coffee balanced with pine and resin hops. Taste: full body with roasted malt and coffee, pine and resin with caramel hops. Good attenuation. Coffee notes and resin finish. Aftertaste: resin and high bitterness, astringent and coffee. Very nice beer.
