Struise-Mikkeller is as we said in the past "Best of two worlds". We delivered an IPA with 130 IBU (Batch I), 150 IBU (Batch II), 163 IBU (Batch III), 216 IBU (Batch IV), but a bitterness hidden the Struise way, counter balanced by maltyness, alcohol and rest sugars.

[ 216 IBU in latest batch per the label on the bottle - bytemesis]

3.0 At the Alvinne Craft Beer Festival in Vichte-Belgium with markoijelana. Ciao. Pours orange hazy, off-white head. Nose: amber caramel malts, mild citrus notes. Mouth: a bit too aggressively bitter, malty in a way but not that terrific.
2.9 Appearance: pours with a large dense dark beige head, the beer is a darker amber, very hazy, Aroma: faint malt caramel, potpourri spice, lavender, very faint Taste: strong bitterness, very strong malt backbone, strong alcohol finish, Palate: lively carbonation, heavy mouthfeel, very strong bitterness on the aftertaste Overall: very good but such a big beer you can't drink much of this fast, very bitter, very malty at the same time
3.6 Tap @ Schooltje. Dark amber color. Big of white head, like whipped cream, goed lacing. Aroma’s: resin, weed, some tropical fruit. Retronasal it seems a bit old, raisins, resinous, fruit. Flavor is moderate to full bitter. Medium bodied. Long & bitter finish.
3.5 From tap at the Hoppy Pub, Thessaloniki. Unclear golden color with off white head. Hoppy aroma, citrusy and grassy, light malty. Sweet and heavy bitter taste like aroma. Medium oily body with soft carbonation.
4.1 On tap at The Hoppy Pub: Nice golden colour with good white head. Aroma of caramel, malts, orange, citrus grass. Taste of orange, citrus, bread, grass. Nice aftertaste. Good brew!
3.3 Vintage 2013, SM No. 12 The beer is fruity and fresh. Slightly grainy. Not too deep, nice floral fresh aftertaste with slightly sourish hints. Bitter-fresh aftertaste. Nice, fresh-bitter, for the 9% highly drinkable. Nice.
3.4 2011 vintage bottling. Struise / Mikkeller Elliot Brew Struise / Mikkeller Elliot Brew
3.3 Very bitter and too much crystal malt, some grapefruit hops and simcoe & centennial feel to it, quite good, but nothing speical.
4.1 330ml bottle poured in a chalice. A: Pours a deep amber color. Too hazy to an American IPA. Head is huge and beige, and leasts forever. Incredible retention and tons of lacings left in the glass S: Quite spicy, malty and bready. Again, strong European (Belgian) personality. Definitely not a American Double IPA. It has this bready and yeasty Belgian smell. Also candy, caramel malts, grassy hops and alcohol. Complex and good T: Complex as the nose. Candy, caramel malts, bread, grassy hops. Upfront is very mild sweet, taste is crispy and bitter as it should. End is bitter and grassy. Very well balanced, nevertheless M: Creamy refreshing body. Medium carbonation. Mild sweet upfront. Bitter aftertaste O: Quite interesting beer. At same time that it keeps the characteristics of an American Double IPA, it also have strong characteristics of a Belgian IPA, like the characteristic bready yeasts taste. In the end, a beer with the good Mikkeller-Struise quality. No regret [ BA Review @ 1/28/2012 ]
3.5 Bottle. Pours amber, nose is malty caramel, taste is light fruit, bitter, sweet.
3.3 Hazy. Hoppy with red fruits on nose. Rather weak aroma. Sweet in taste. Malty base, raisiny, caramel, cherries(?) and some sourness. Oily body. Big "wow" on paper, but small disapointment in real.
3.5 Color caoba turbio con densa espuma color crema. Aromas de caramelo, herbales y pino. Cuerpo medio-denso, textura maltosa, toque acafetado y amargor final herbal, seco y resinoso. Bien
3.4 11.2 oz. bottle. Vintage 2013. SM No. 12. Must be from Batch IV because the label specifies 216 IBU. A murky amber/brown pour with tons of chunky floaties and a smallish tan head. Plums, Port wine, dark cherries, brown sugar, raisin bread, and grapefruits feature in the aroma. Medium-bodied and kinda sticky on the way down. Lots of smooth caramel and toffee upfront taste-wise. Candi sugar, tart cherries, raisins, and plums follow. Some bitter dark chocolate and grapefruits present at the end. Piny. Kinda earthy. A little yeasty. The 9% ABV is nicely hidden.
3.8 Penso serimanente che questi pazzi potrebbero fare anche la gazzosa o la spuma, che verrebbe comunque originale. Perchè loro sono originali, come questa imp. IPA. Gran corpo è nonostante va giù che è un piacere...
3.8 On tap at Frisco Tap House & Brewery in Columbia, MD. Lightly hazy/nearly clear, rusty orange with a khaki head and excellent lacing. Aroma of passion fruit, toffee, orange peel, grapefruit, lemon drops, pine, mango, raisin bread and caramel. Taste of orange peel, toffee, pine, passion fruit, mango, grapefruit, caramel an more many and tropical fruit. Medium/full body and medium carbonation. A hop bomb, but nothing like a west coast IPA. The intense hops are complex and fruity and nearly matched by an abundance of malt.
4.1 Cooperation with the much-revered Mikkeller (and label in the Mikkeller house style), in four versions; this rating concerns batch III (163 IBU). Also tasted under the name "Mikkeller". Very stable, regular, cream white head, colour a brownish amber, hazy with a ’fond’ of protein flakes. Excessively hoppy aroma, spicy, grapefruit, tonic water, orange peel, dried leaves, walnuts, cookies, caramel. Fresh citrussy onset, rounded nutty maltiness, rather light mouthfeel in relation to its strength, sodden in hops from beginning to end, aromatic, peppery, citrussy and grapefruit-like, eventually becoming even more bitter, almost to a medicinal level, sticky and very, very long. A treat for hopheads.
3.9 Draught @ Wildeman, Amsterdam. Incoming from the Western Front! Hop bomb, huge pucker factor, passion fruit. Not very Belgian, love it!
3.8 Tap. Hazy orange with a nice head. Pine, citrus, honey, lemon candy. Medium body. Smooth with slightly sweet bitter finish. Awesome
3.7 A wonderful new take on the double ipa. The candy sugar adds an interesting balance to the hops. But the lingering bitterness I the hops leaves your mouth happy. The mix of sugar and spice combined with the grapefruit notes of the hops balance perfectly. Well done!
5.0 Well-balanced! Great nose... Supreme taste, overal a 9,5, you recognise the 2 breweries I one glass! tasted it at grand cabaret (Nieuwpoort BE) on draft! They tap on Nitrogene, installation perfectionised by Urbain Coutteau ( from Struise Brouwers) himself...
4.3 12oz bottle at Woodruff's. Pours a hazy pale brown color with some frothy head. Lots of great earthy hop flavors.
3.7 Tap @ Ma Che Siete Venuti A Fà, Roma. Pours cloudy amber with of white, rich, good lacing and long lasting head. Nose is sweet caramel, honey, ripe fruit, onion!? yeast, citrus and floral hop aroma. Flavour is rich caramel, candy, dark fruit, sweet at the beginning, but overpowered by strong, harsh hop bitternes. Just a bit to aggressive for my opinion. Despite of 9% ABV the alcohol is well hidden. Medium body, low to moderate carbonation. Not bad at all!
2.6 Amber with white foam. Nose of fruits and hop. Medium bodied. Taste of hops and sweet fruits with flowery hints. Not the best double ipa.
2.5 ’11 bottle courtesy of Steve at Alla Spina. Pours a clean amber with thin white head. Aroma of oxidized hops and malt - sherry , cardboard. Light fruity notes, sweet, with an extremely astringent harsh finish. DPF
3.8 Aroma: floral hops, tropical fruits.Appearance: dark hazy amber, medium frothy. Taste: medium bitter. Palate: bitters intensify, getting very pronounced, dry average-finish. Overall: interesting Belgian interpretation of an IIPA. Pint at Cafe Red Rose, Bruges.
4.0 P: Murky dark caramel body that looks similar to unfiltered pure apple cider. A massive cloudy of khaki clouds perch above and micro bubble chain male wrap the edges. S: Belgian candy sugar, sweet plums, dark cherries, moldy oak, pilsner malt, medicinal yeast, raisin pound cake, toffee and honey sticks. T/M: Thick sticky sweet malts, loads of barley, toffee, sourdough toast, tea tannins, dark fruits, with an abrasive chalky yeast and hop bitterness medley that cuts straight through the sugary start. Soda pop carbonation in medium body finishing with a dry rustic linger. O: This was an interesting brew to say the least. Harsh bitterness with a huge sugary malt profile. This almost comes across as a hopped up quad. I think I might grab another bottle. Cheers! Serving type: bottle
Bom drikabillity. Muito boa.
3.9 Bottle. Murky amber pour with a white head. Citrusy hop notes with a sturdy caramel malt backbone. Good glance, body , and mouthfeel.
3.6 11.2oz bottle (vintage 2011) into a snifter souvenir from dld 2013 - nose is a quad/abt. Basement aromas out the ass and nutty as shit. Why the fluffy bunny rabbits did I pick this up? It’s a DIPA from 2011!! Aged really well but has very few DIPA characteristics. Interesting experience.
