Struise Pannepot

Struise Pannepot

In the early 1900s, the village of
De Panne, close to the French border, was famous for two things -- the ‘Pannepots,’ or fishing boats, that could be seen along the coast, and the unique dark ale enjoyed by the local fishermen.
Our Old Fisherman’s Ale is a tribute to these hardy sailors and their rich, flavorful brew. Unfiltered. Unpasteurized. Bottle-conditioned in 33cl and 75cl.

3.8 Caramel and toffee on the nose. Carbonation very low. Murky brown. Is it off? Tastes lifeless too. It did spend 4 weeks in a postal warehouse due to our postal service's uselessness.
4.2 Vintage 2020. Licht zurige wijngeur. Diep donkere roest bruine kleur met weinig koolzuur. Fles '21 XI # Proefglas

5.0 0,33 l bottle from Systembolaget Linköping. 0,33 l bottle, superb Belgian beer although not my favourite style!
4.2 This is the vintage version from 2020. Pours dark, almost black with some reddish tones. First thing that hits when putting nose close is tones of burnt sugar, with a touch of anis, dried fruits, toffee. Mouth is splendidly smooth, well balanced, complex. Turns to the sweeter side, lots of dried fruit, a touch of roastiness in the finish, some liquorice hidden that sneaks towards the end, some chocolate. Very nice beer.
3.8 Fat.
4.0 33cl bottle, 2020 vintage. Pours almost black, with no foam. Aroma is molasses, caramel, licorice, figs. Body is average, with limited soft carbonation. Limited stickiness. Taste is pretty sweet, with a fairly long final.
3.6 Vintage 2017.

4.4 This was my first beer on my wishlist. If I went to "Belgium", this would be the first beer I wanted to try. After 2 years, I found it in one beer shop in my country and I runed like a maniac to get it. The aroma is ultra lively and it gives you a lot of chocolate and coffe notes. But the taste is unbelievable. It runs in your mouth and it fill you with very sweet coffe, caramel and chocolate notes. The beer has wine too and some other ingrediet that makes it slightly sour. The mouthfeel is one of the best three I have receive and the finish is very pleasand with some bitterness. The carboration is very soft and the beer is ultra complex. All in all, this was one of my best experience. This is not a ordinary beer. Is really something completely different beer but it's amazing and very unique. If you find this beer, get it without thoughts.
4.6 23-02-2021 @mas_ibus Torrelavega Color caoba oscuro. Aroma a fruta madura y a ron. Sabor afrutado y especiado, a chocolate y caramelo.
4.5 Dark brown going on black in colour. Smells of dried fruits and slightly malty. Flavours are plums, dried fruits like sultanas, raisins and prunes. Reminds me a little bit of chimay blue. A lovely really stunningly beautiful Belgium beer

3.9 2020 Bottle @ DØE Køge virtual. Overall: young but excellent strong ale.
3.8 Koffie, chocolade, kruidkoek , laurierdrop, ingelegd fruit, koekjesdeeg.
3.9 A 330ml bottle, 2020 vintage, bottled on 14th July 2020, with a best before date of 14th July 2025. Poured into a Struise tulip glass. Dark brown in colour with a thin beige head that dissipated quickly and left only sparse to no lacing. Aromas sweet, doughy, cake, caramel, clove, candied plum, prune, grape gummy candies, chocolate, coffee, and candi sugar. Tastes lightly sweet, yeasty, doughy, slightly boozy, fig, clove, plum, prunes, raisin, toffee, with notes of cocoa and chocolate. Creamy, medium bodied with low carbonation. Overall a little bit too doughy for me, but still enjoyable.
4.3 July 30th, 2016 (2006 bottle) - A wonderful treat, here with a good friend, and an aged beer that might have soon been eligible for a museum. Complex, deep, and wonderful, it bears a striking relationship with its cousin tasted and enjoyed back in October. The smell reminds me of yakitori stands on a cold winter Tokyo night, and made deep with a muddy, rich aroma. The flavor is equally impressive, and develops as a well trained orchestra, with multitudinous tastes and notes acting in concert to a glorious crescendo.
3.9 330ml bottle, 2020 vintage. Pours very dark brown with a very short lived tan head. Aroma of dark malts, dried fruits, caramel. Taste is malty, lots of dried fruits, raisins, sultanas, a little liquorice and caramel. Medium body,

3.9 Bottle from Sophie's Beer Store. Aroma is sweet - marzipan, berries, glue - with coffee and boozy hints. Dark and. A brown tint. Bubbly beige head is a thin ring just clinging to the rim. The initial taste reflects the sweetness in the aroma. Although the berries to the front. There's also an underlying tobacco-edged coffee bitterness. The booze gains in strength and astringency. Medium bodied. Oily. Flat carbonation. Long astringent finish. If I was a Belgian fisherman I'd want to drink this back in port. Although with the way the fishing industry's going if I was a fisherman from any country I'd want to drink anything that was 10.0%. However it's what I would expect (and want) from the style and with the barrel aging. And it never overdoes things, it's measured (if I'd wanted to be a complete wanker I could have used, if this was prose you'd describe it as measured).
4.2 0,33l bottle from the brewery, 2017 Vintage, Pours dark brown to black liquid, small creamy tan head, Aroma: candied plums, forrest fruits, liquorice, warming alcohol, lemon peel, Taste: light to medium sweet, light to medium bitter, medium sour, candied fruits, plums, forrest strawberry, liquorice, Palate: full body, soft to flat carbonation, slick thick to oily mouthfeel, long lemon liquorice aftertaste, Overall: very good, enjoyed very well.
4.3 330ml @ home. 2010 Vintage. Pours an opaque dark brown almost black with a small tan head. Nose is raisins, dates, brown sugar, and hints of chocolate. Flavour is rich, raisins, brown sugar, touch of licorice, hint of chocolate and carries a gentle spiced feeling. Full bodied, mild carbonation, and a moderate sweetness with a balanced booze character. Wow, no oxidation and still drinks delicious.
4.3 Mahonkisen värinen lasissa vähäisellä vaahdolla. Tuoksussa on tummaa hedelmää, viikunaa ja alkoholin tuntua. Suutuntuma on runsas. Mausta löytyy monenlaista tummaa, kuivattua hedelmää ja lopuksi alkoholin lämmittävyyttä. Loistava olut.
4.8 Very very nice Belgium dark beer, beautiful balance taste. Buy it if you find it :-) Tasting october 2022: Beer Vintage 2020 = No 16 of 18. Beer Vintage 2021 = No 14 of 18.
4.5 Very dark brown ale, oily, thin head. Aromas of dark chocolate, caramel, red fruits and liquorice. Roasted notes. Heavy. The taste has similar flavours. The dark chocolate is more pronounced. Mild, roasted caramel sweetness. Some earthy, ashy notes as well. Mildly hoppy. Quite complex, but very well balanced. Great dark ale.
