Struise Pannepot Reserva (Calvados BA)

Struise Pannepot Reserva (Calvados BA)

The Pannepot Reserva was an idea from my brew colleague Carlo who wanted to age Pannepot in genuine French oak barrels (barrique 225 liters). We have brewed 90HL at the end of 2005 which has been aging on oak ever since (14 months). 30 Hl was bottled Tuesday 8th May 2007. 60Hl has been transferred now to second hand calvados oak vessels and will be bottled again early autumn 2007, we will name that batch Pannepot Grand Reserva. As quality and results rule at Struise, the Reserva was already brewed again and aging on oak.

Einfach lecker!
4.4 Ciemnobrunatne prawie czarne nieprzezroczyste piwo z niezłą pianą która dość szybko opada. Aromat suszonych owoców, czekolady i karmelu. W smaku winogrona w tym suszone, daktyle. Goryczka na niskim poziomie, finisz owocowy
4.0 Intensive aroma of red fruits, raisins, caramel, spices, vanilla, almonds, rowanberry. Very complex. Taste of red fruits, caramel, spices, rowanberry. Sweet and little sour. Complex. Medium - full body, medium carbonation. Bitter occurs and match to beer. Age of beer is perceptible.
3.7 Flaska.
4.1 Pours beautiful headless, like a syrupy brandy, dark brown with light burgundy, reddish hue. Aroma vinous, light vanilla, dark and red fruits, light alcohol, woody tannines, sweet candi sugar underneath, good depth. Tastes very vinous, sweet, creamy vanilla, candy sugar, spices, very woody, tasty alcohol, great sipper, astringent finish. Very tasty and I enjoyed it, quality brew but for me a bit too vinous, way too woody and the base beer seems to have turned rather sweet. Great but not their best barrel aged pannepot.
4.7 Another of my highly desired acquisitions on our trip to Belgium and the Netherlands in the spring of this year. I was blown away by Struise Pannepot a couple of years ago. Now I have Reserva, vintage 2012, for comparison. I am using my favored Trappistes Rochefort glass, duh, for this one. A delightful arrival, I see a chocolate-amber liquid with a slight, slowly replenishing, taupe colored top. And the scent, great promise of things to come, berry, chocolate and sour dough bread. And now finally, a drink. My goodness, really fine. Dates, strawberry, grain, malt, milk chocolate (a recurring thread obviously), liqueur and an indication of the barrel aging. Creamy texture. Why can’t we get this in the states?
3.9 On tap at Vrteška 2018, Belgrade. 2012 vintage. Dark brown, minimal head. Strong fruity aromas and alcohol, light wood or oak, dark cherry. Slightly tart, sweet and fruity, sour cherry, caramel. Alcohol hidden, medium body, very gentle, light finish.
4.0 Color marrón oscuro, opaca. Dos dedos de espuma marrón sin retención. Aroma dulce y alcohólico, malta tostada, caramelo, mucha madera, ciruela seca y pasas, ligero café y regaliz.
3.7 On tap at Rose Red Cafè, Brugge, Belgium. It pours dark brown, with a small, beige head. Aroma is roasted malt, coffee, chocolate, alcohol. Taste is medium bitter. Body is full, carbonation is fine.
4.0 330ml 2008 vintage bottle. Pours a dark brown color and topped by a thin tan head that fades away quickly. The aroma shows notes of dark fruits with stewed figs and raisins, spices, toasted caramel, and light cocoa in the malt base to go with notes of old oak and vanilla. The flavor follows suit with a nice blend between dark caramel, sweet malts, and dark fruits with plums, raisins, and figs again pushing through. Some light cocoa follows along with the old oak and vanilla, while the spices really tie everything together. Medium bodied and smooth with soubtle carbonation that leads to a dark fruits, dark caramel, and oak laden vanilla finish. Really nicely done, and would have loved to have tried this fresher, but surprisingly held up pretty well for being this old. Nice Belgian strong ale.
3.9 Bottle shared at Bar Explosive Jyväskylä, 2014 vintage. Pours dark brown reddish color. Aroma of dark malts, fruitiness, spices, liquor, alcohol, vinous notes, tartness, oak. Medium body, quite flat, a bit boozy sweet. Barrel is heavily present here.
4.4 Zaskakująco duża karbonacja. W aromacie tonka. W smaku tonka, rodzynki, kawa, a także winność, finisz lekko odsłania wiśnię. Absolutnie niewczuwalny alkohol. Piwo smukłe w swojej złożoności i wytworne.
4.1 Bottle from Systembolaget. Fruity and dark malty with dried fruit, caramel and some yeasty spices. Similar taste. Deep taste. Very nice.
4.3 37,5 cl bottle. Hazy deep brown color, with almost no head. Aroma is more liquorous than regular Pannepot, licorice, toffee, a bit smokey. Taste is more round than regular version, sweetish, spicy, vanilla, licorice. Almost no carbonation, the years in barrel seems to affect this. But delicious.
4.2 From bottle (2014 vintage) in Belgian ale glass. Pours dark brown w/2 cm tan head that faded. Rich complex aroma: molasses, aniseed, roast malt, stewed fruit. Sour and woody w/a tart cherry finish
4.1 330ml bottle. Very dark brown colour with small yellowish brown head. Big sweet malt, big wine barrel, tannins, dried stone fruit, spices, dark fruit, wood barrel, dark fruit jam, sweet red grape, figs, vinous, tobacco, plums, brown sugar, booze. So good, maybe a bit too boozy - almost drinks more like ~12% but who cares.
3.6 2014 vintage: 11.2 oz bottle Pours like a thick cola with a brown bubbled head. Coffee nutty wine raisin nose. A bit boozy port wine flavors. Quickly went flat Strange. Like a stout infused with wine
4.1 Bottle (2012 vintage) @ home. Black with a small lacing light brown head. Smells sweet and roasty. Tastes roasty, red fruits, oak, chocolate, sweet, hint of vanilla. Quite nice. Slightly alcohol glow. Full body, medium to heavy carbo.
4.0 Czarne, nieprzejrzyste. Piana beżowa, drobna, średnio obfita, szybko redukuje się do zera. W zapachu suszone owoce - rodzynki, migdały, daktyle, czekolada, karmel, wanilia. W smaku winogrona, czarne porzeczki, migdały, daktyle, trochę tanin. Goryczka niska, wysycenie wysokie, posmak daktylowy, owocowy.
4.9 Pours dark brown, translucent, a finger of not lasting white head and no lacing. Aroma of vanilla and bourbon overall. Tastes sweet, caramel and toffee, bread, strong bourbon with notes of vanilla, spices and wood. Bitter-ish finish with booze quite well hidden, although visible. Medium-light body, very mild carbonation, smooth and a pleasure to sip. 4 years in a bourbon barrel have marked this beer unequivocally. Great brew, as usual, from de Struise.
4.4 Aromas of rum soaked raisins and wooded vanilla. Palate is Smith Ky sour, but fruity with a vanilla finish.
3.7 Earlier Rating: 10/22/2018 Total Score: 4.1
4.0 0.33cl bottle fromSimontolinson for EU local exchange 3/2018. Pannepot is actually the beer which introduced me to crafteer. Drank it many years ago and it got it all started. Raisins! Nice one
4.4 Wersja z 2012. Meeeega intensywny i bardzo złożony aromat, trochę karmelu, trochę żywicy, dużo drewna i czerwonych owoców, marcepan, jakieś niezidentyfikowane nuty. W smaku słodkie, z lekką kwaśną nutą, też mega złożone i wyraziste. ŚWIETNA
4.0 750ml bottle from Systembolaget, Vintage 2014. Deep dark black/brown pour with hints of ruby. Small khaki head, no lacing. Smooth bourbon aroma, oak, vanilla and dark dried fruit. Smooth, rounded and dry mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Mature oaky vinous taste, wood bitterness, sweet dried fruit, vanilla and rounded bourbon. Mild warming finish. Great stuff!
