Struise Rio Reserva (Kentucky Bourbon B.A.)

This ale was brewed back in 2008, and in collaboration with brew master Ryohei Sugawa San from Rio Brewing & Co. Our goal was to brew a Belgian dark golden blond quadrupel with an enormous potential of aromas and flavors, and added complexity due to oak barrel aging. Bourbon barels from Kentucky were chosen due to their very special soft roast quality and noble vanilla flavors. Year upon year, different quality controls were executed, and we finally decided to bottle condition this very special ale in May 2012. Another three moths of cold maturing was done at the brewery, so we could be sure about the absolute quality before releasing to our customers.

3.7 330ml bottle from RusBeerShop in Moscow. Bottled on 10 April 2012 (must be my oldest beer so far). Pours hazy brown with a medium-sized off-white head. Aroma is bourbon, dried fruit, spices, wine. Taste is light sweet, dried fruits, oaky bourbon barrel, malt, caramel, light booziness, warming alcoholic finish. Unique take on a quad.
3.8 Alcohol, dried fruit, raisins and wine aroma. Didn't get any burbon to be honest. Complex, interesting, but too boozy. Hazy to cloudy amber color with huge white fast dying head. Brown sugar, wine and fruit taste, sweet, caramel, lots of different malty notes, some strawberry and alcohol caramelized sugar. Full body, soft carbonation, creamy, bit warming. Sweet sugary fruity aftertaste. There is really a lot going on with this one. //bottle from Magic Beer Room
3.7 Strong oak notes. bourbon comes through well. Stong with dates, almonds, and clove. Woody with a nice dry finish.
4.5 In Brussels and stopped in a little restaurant for dinner. Nüetnigenough had several beers and based on what i said i was looking for, they suggested this. The nose, was enticing. The first taste exciting. One of the best beers in a land of amazing beer. The only part I did not like, was that I eventually finished it.....

4.0 030317. Bottle at home (beergium). Pours clear amber with a small head. Aroma raisins, ripe fruits, Belgian yeast. Very smooth, ever so slight hint of alcohol. Good balance. Not Bad.
3.4 From notes. Enjoyed on Christmas Eve at the Boné/Murphy household while causing all kinds of mischief. 330 mL bottle, 2012 vintage, shared by ebone1988. This one was enjoyed in some festive Marty Moose glassware. The pour is a nice ambery gold with a thick white head and a couple spots of lace as it falls down to a thin film. The aroma is surprisingly yeasty. There is a lighter fruit behind that and a growing caramel and oak after that. This is definitely more like a tripel than it is a quad, which is a little bit of a shame. The flavor is much of the same. The caramel and light toffee come through first before the fruitiness and heavy yeastiness take over. There is a decent growing bourbon and a strong charred oak. The mouth feel is medium bodied at best with a bright and spritzy carbonation and a lingeringly yeasty and caramel finish. This one is weird. 6 4 6 4 14
3.6 Bottle from Merchants. Bottle shared with koleminer20, from Marty Moose glasses. 2012 vintage. Aroma is fruit, caramel, bourbon, barrel, yeast, toffee. Appearance is amber brown, light tan head, spritzy. Taste is caramel, fruity, toffee, bourbon, barrel, yeast, effervescent. Mouthfeel is medium body, heavy fucking carbonation, caramel fruity yeast woody aftertaste. Overall it's incredibly spritzy, but the flavor is good.
3.8 Zapach mocne figi, rodzynki, miód gryczany, wanilia, alkohol. Smak alkoholowo słodki, rodzynki, figi, dużo estrów, słodkie gruszki, ciężki, zalepiajacy. Piwo mocno degustacyjne, bardzo bogate w smaki, nisko nasycone.
4.9 Aus der Flasche (Vintage 2008) 2015-10 getrunken. "Wow! Rodenbach meets Pannepot !!!" Dieser rotbraune Traum kommt säuerlich, sehr fruchtig und doch malzig daher. Verdammt ungewöhnlich für ein Quardrupel.
3.6 Butelka z 2012 roku. Chyba nie do końca dobrze się zestarzało, bo miało większy potencjał. W aromacie jest taki kwaśny zapach, do tego czuć rodzynki i lekko alkohol. Piwo jest bursztynowe, lekko mętne. W smaku dość słodkie, ale bardzo mało złożone. Alkohol czuć na szczęście mniej niz w aromacie, goryczka nie jest zbyt duża, ale generalnie piwo oblepia lekko przełyk. Źle nie jest.
3.9 Aus der Flasche im Labeerynt getrunken. Außerordentlich gut ausgebautes Qadrupel. Gewinnt noch durch die Fasslagerung.
4.0 Bottled. 2012. 15cl sample. The aroma has strong overripe red fruits, vanilla, oak, hint of earthy yeast. Bit hazy, brown coloured beer with a medium-sized, off-white head. The taste is very sweet with dried fruits, some caramel, bourbon. Full bodied. Elegant stuff.
5.0 Wat een topper, mijn nummer 1. Smaak is explosief donker en zacht, Echt een aanrader.
4.0 Flaska 2011 @Fermentoren Kph. Rödbrun öl med ett lättare smutsvitt skum. Doft av röda bär och fatlagrad alkohol. I smaken tar körsbär en större plats bland bärsmakerna. Klara Bourbontoner i både doft och smak.
4.4 Colore ambrato scuro, schiuma gialla compatta ma poco persistente, aroma di malto, vaniglia e legno appena accennati. Al palato vaniglia, amarena, è un marcato carattere vinoso. inizio amaro ma il finale è dolce e leggermente alcolico. Birra magistralmente equilibrata, un ottimo esperimento.
4.2 Many thanks for this beer to tderoeck. 750 ml bottle. Brewed in 05.02.2008 and Bottled in 30.05.2012. Syntetyczny korek, aromat silny owocow suszonych, gruszki, brzoskwinie i morele. Wyglad jasno bursztynowy, metny. Smak Sporo slodkosci, ciut wanilowego smaku wraz z pieprzowa nuta, zdecydowanie Bourbon w smaku, beczki po bialym winie nic tu nie wniosly. Tak wiec jest to piwo w smaku zdecydowanie za slodkie, bourbonowo-whiskowe. Cale szczescie ze alkohol ukryty, ale rozgrzewal i tu sie go wyczuwalo i jeszcze troche w aromacie. Po wysokiej ocenie spodziewalem sie mega swietnego piwa, a bylo tylko dobre, wiec przy takim nastawieniu moge stwierdzic ze nieco sie rozczarowalem
3.7 Przyprawowe, lekko pikantne, dość mocno gazowane, wytrawne. W tle nieco alkoholowa goryczka, ale mimo tego całkiem nieźle to wszystko się ze sobą łączy.
3.8 Barrel is absolutely not present in the aroma. It is quite to hoppy and light in texture to be quadruple. Worth to try.
4.1 33cl-fles van bij Tabac&Co - Palais des bières te Dottenijs (in Famiflora). U: Troebel donkerkoper - bruin met dunne licht beige schuimkraag. G: Fruitig, karamel en wat bourbon. S: Zoet met een lichte bitterheid. Gedroogd fruit, karamel, licht kruidig en wat bourbon. Frisse (Braziliaanse) hopfruitigheid. Alcoholwarmte. M: Volmondig, licht plakkerig en medium carbonatie.
3.8 Bottle@ frape Maastricht. Brown haze. Bourbon sweet dried prunes. Flavours whiskey dries drift. Sweet heavy body. Nice and complex. Filling.
3.7 Bottle. Pours dark amber, with yellowish head. Aromas of fruits: pineapple, red fruits, alcohol, hints of phenolic notes. Sweet, with low bitterness, lots of dried fruits in aftertaste. Fizzy carbonation. Quite interesting but alcohol is a bit too distinct and barrel notes are very subtle.
3.4 Aromat jest piękny, choć drożdże powędrowały w dziwną nieco stronę. Naprodukowały nut owocowych, kombinacja brzoskwini, banana a nawet ananasa! Do tego drewno, muśnięcie wanilii, bardzo zachęcająco. W smaku jednak duuużo poniżej poziomu browaru. Przede wszystkim masa tanin i mokrego drewna, próchna. Kontrowane przez przyjemną drożdżową owocowość. Goryczka jest stosunkowo wysoka i taniczna. Tragedii jednak nie ma, całość się w miarę broni.
3.9 Amber with a light khaki head. Nose is sweet caramel, toffee, light alcohol. Chewy palate, toffee, caramel, light dough, bread and alcohol in the finish.

3.7 Bottle@deTolly, Tartu.ABV 10,5%. Pours amber (caramel) with small beige head. Aroma: goutweed, bready, whiskey, caramel, wet old hay. Taste: sweetish, weak sour, vanilla, candy sugar, caramel, alcohol boozyness,woody,spicy. Full body.
4.1 BOTTLE 33 CL. Clear red body, with sediment, beige head with so so retention. The aroma is full of oak vanilla, I mean a lot of it. Not much going on behind - some sticky fruit syrup, bandaid spice. The taste is soft milky vanilla caramel, smooth but not sticky, drying alcoholic spice and heat. Super smooth mouthfeel. Excellent.
4.3 Flaska från SB. Vintage 2011, tappad på flaska aug 2014. Kopparröd/mahogny-färgad med litet beigevitt skum. Redan när jag öppnar flaskan sprider sig doften. Det första som möter en är tydliga rödvinstoner - tror aldrig jag känt det så tydligt innan. Sen bourbon, melass, inlagda körsbär, fruktkola, syltade vinbär, vinbärsgele, brunt socker, stor maltsötma, kola, lite fatkaraktär, Långt, långt bakom en lite rökig ton, väl dold i sötman. En massiv kropp, större än väntat. Fyller munnen oerhört. Verkligen en stormvind smakmässigt. Stor maltsötma, kaxiga bourbontoner, värmande alkohol, bränt socker, inlagda körsbär, ekfat och en lite torr avslutning med lite brända inslag. Den var väl värd att spara på.

4.0 Bottle. 2011 vintage. Foam explosion when opening. Taste is not infected though. Dried fruits, caramel, fudge, dark berries, oak, red wine and hints of whisky.
