Struise Roste Jeanne - Red Haired Jeanne

Struise Roste Jeanne - Red Haired Jeanne

This is only for the Struise version! If you had this after 2015, you probably had the version brewed at De Proef. Please rate accordingly!

Our brew-master was born and raised in Newport Belgium. In the early days around 1600, a lot of women were accused of witch craft and got burned alive... Early 2010, the city council of Newport asked Urbain to develop a session beer for the two yearly evocation of a Newport witch called Jeanne Panne. Jeanne was as ugly as can be and had copper coloured hair. Elements enough for Urbain to create a rather exciting ale whom we named "Roste Jeanne".

Urbain Couteau: The brand "Roste Jeanne" was deposed behind our backs by the city council early 2013. To avoid any legal battles, we stopped brewing the beer. This beer is now brewed in contract by the city council of Nieuwport at the Proefbrouwerij in Lo-christi Belgium.

3.6 Een bier met een speciale smaak, maar ik vond het echt wel lekker. Aan te raden om eens te proberen
2.7 33cl bottle. Amber with white foam, aroma of esters, red fruits and yeast. Light bodied, strong carbonation. A bit flat.
3.0 Interesting beer. Mahogany body with roasted malt. Light body. Some smoke and spices in the flavor.
3.4 Draft sample. Poured clear reddish copper color with an average frothy white head that mostly lasted with good lacing. Moderate yeast fruit aroma. Medium body with a smooth sticky texture and soft carbonation. Medium sweet flavor with a medium sweet finish of moderate duration. My expectations where met.
3.4 On tap at Dutch’s, rated from memory. Keg arrived "aged" thanks to the importer. Reddish color, with a good khaki head. Smooth, lighter carbonation, medium to bigger body. Kind of a light tart taste, lightly spicy. Some toasty, earthy, spicy aromas. Not bad.
3.4 Draft at Dutch’s. Pours a clear deep amber color with a medium sized creamy beige head. The aroma and flavor have toasted bread, fruity esters, cocoa powder, yeast, caramel some earthy bitterness. The finish is slightly dry and soft. This was a bit disappointing from these guys.
3.1 Draft to snifter at Dutch’s. Looks good; a hazy orangish brown with foamy off-white head. Smells of Belgian yeast, malt, and a bit of dark fruit with a bit of earthiness as well. Tastes like it smells with an average mouthfeel. Okay.
3.5 Aroma of malts, red/dark fruits, caramel, yeast, wood, brown sugar, slight chocolate. Flavour is pretty sweet, red fruits, spicy. Body is nice and thick. I really enjoyed drinking this brew.
3.3 Nice vigorous carbonation. Dull copper color. Grainy aroma with a hint of fruity yeast character. Flavor is rather hoppy, but not overwhelming at all. Crisp hop finish. Pretty nice stuff.
3.1 Bottle @Bierhuyske. Pours amber/brown with nice foam. Little sweet aroma. Taste light sweetness, some caramel. Not much aftertate.
3.4 Bottled. 33cl full sample. The aroma has caramel, prunes, raisin. Bit hazy, brown coloured beer with a thin, off-white head. The taste is sweet with evolving bitterness. Has the caramel, raisin and prunes, some spice and is a bit more toasty in the finish. Medium bodied.
3.4 Bottle - 330ml. Cloudy, dark brown body with ruby glints, average carbonation, and a decent beige foamy head. Well balanced malty/hoppy aroma with fruity and oaky hints. Its good, fresh taste is slightly dominated by hoppy flavors. It carries fruity, oakt, and herbal notes. Ends with a decent bitter/sour finish. Good example of red Belgian ale.
3.2 (bottle, 33cl) Slightly hazy, dark amber colour with a beige medium-sized foamy head. Caramel-malty and fruity aroma with notes of candied fruits and chocolate. Sweet and slightly bitter flavour, medium bodied with a smooth carbonation. Malt-accented taste with notes of caramel and liquorice; subtle fruity notes towards the sweet and slightly bitter finish with caramel and liquorice spice in the aftertaste. 13.I.14
3.1 33cl served in a Trappist glass. This is the first (and as yet only) disappointment from Struise. Pours a medium hazy brown colour with a little beige head. Quite a watery mouthfeel (by their own high standards) and the taste and aroma are also quite muted. Hard to pick out any distinct flavours. All in all quite a poor effort from (one of) the best brewers in Belgium.
3.1 Rousse aux reflets rouges. Nez: métallique. Grain. Chocolat. Bouche: sucré. Métallique. Caramel. Légèrement amère. Raisin. Banane. Finale caramélisé. Simplette.
3.2 On tap at Biercab. Brown colour with off.white head. Malt, caramel, dark fruits aroma. Sweet, metallic, caramel and dark fruits taste. Medium to full body.
3.3 Pours hazy, brown with light beige head. Aroma is fruity, caramel, wood and slightly acidic. Flavour is chocolate, roasted, caramel, a bit sweet and spices.
3.4 Bärnstensfärgad med mellanstort ljust skum! Lite kryddig doft med malt och inslag av humle och russin! Bra öl!
3.5 Bottle. Pours clear red/brown with a slightly lacy off white head. Aroma is plums, caramel, more red fruits. metallic and light funk. Taste is light sour, moderate sweet and light bitter. Medium body with soft carbonation. Not bad but not very impressed either.
3.2 Láhev 330 ml. Aroma je slabší, sladové se středně silným alkoholovým závojem. Pěna je světle hnědá, nízká, jemná a nedržící. Barva samotného piva je tmavší opálová. Chuť má sladový střed s lehkým nádechem kávy a koření. Finiš je nakyslí, středně oříškově hořký a držící. Vcelku se jedná o zajímavé pivo s originální chutí a střední pitleností.
3.5 Pours a beautiful, clear reddish amber, with a thick off white head. Aroma of raisins, prunes vanilla, caramel, malt, bit of toast. Taste is a straightforward bittersweet, syrupy slick mouthfeel, very mild carbonation. Long, wet finish. Would be really nice with pie. good one.
3.4 bottle at a bar.. poured a hazzy red colour with a small creamy head. caramel, apricots, peach, nice stronger hop taste. nice bitter aftertaste. ok beer. not that special
3.4 330ml bottle. Amber shade with a nice head. Initial thick coating of lace. Light caramel aroma, really rather muted here. Soft orangey caramel tones on the tongue. Bit of Belgian yeast flavour. Quite soft and subtle, nice enough flavours but not memorable enough on the whole.
3.5 On bottle from Beerplanet .be. Copper colored, some foam. Aromas of malt, dried fruits, & nice yeast influence. Medium body & complexity. Well balanced. Enjoyable
3.4 Drunk from 33cl bottle bought from maltin pot in Brussels. Pleasant red ale. Full of flavour.
3.5 On draught at 101 Beer Kitchen. The beer pours a dark reddish-brown color with a medium tan head that dissipates gradually. Partial rings of lacing on the glass. Aroma of dark fruits and yeast. Medium-bodied with flavors of earthy yeast, caramel malt and raisins. The finish is semi-sweet with a fruity aftertaste. Decent overall.
3.3 Poured medium reddish amber with a frothy off white head. Aroma of sweet berries, toasty caramel malt. Medium to light body, flavour of the aroma, slightly sour with a lingering bitterness.
3.5 A very unique brew. Pours a bright muddy red amber colour. The nose has a malt of toasted bread and light graininess as well as odd berry and fruit note throughout. A sweet almost syrupy malt and fruit flavour mid palate with a finish of a mild lingering hop bitterness. Not a normal beer but its definately worth a try
3.4 330ml bottle from Beer-city.be BBE 11/2015 - Pours dark reddish brown with a small head. Aroma of berries, syrup, spices, sweet ripe fruits and caramely notes. Taste is sweet, tartish, yeasty and spicy with notes of dark ripe fruits, berries and syrup. Finish is carbonated, spicy and sweetish. Okay.
