4.0Bottle purchased at Beertopia. 2013 vintage. Pour was hazy light brown, foamy off white head. Aroma of caramel, brown sugar, raisin, fruit. Taste was mild sweet, wine, plum, caramel.
3.9Bottle pours out amber cola color with a small head. Nose is nice big rich belg yeast candy sugar and floral notes. Taste is more of the nice sweet malts rich candy pit fruit citrus hops and some nice barrel notes.
4.2Earlier Rating: 7/14/2018 Total Score: 4.9
3.7Bottle at L'atelier. Amber with beige head. Loads of caramel, dates, sugary. Warming alcohol. A bit too boozy, but nice.
Final ligeramente licoroso. Postgusto ligeramente licoroso y especiado.
4.0KØLF 171117. Amber color with a beige head. Aroma is dried fruits, caramel, vinous. Flavor is dried fruits, alcohol, caramel, vinous, sugar, yeast, spices. Full body. Powerful beer.
4.2I have bought this beer at the grain d'orges, before that they close the shop, at Crissier. I drank this beer yesterday, at home, with my wife in Lausanne. In my point of view, it is a delightful beer, a typical Belgian and dark ale. The color is brown/dark, troubled, normal carbonation, white and brown foam. This one is sweet at the palale, candy sugar, honey, cynamon, ginger bread, malt, some hop. The taste is well balanced, taking stronger aromas at the end, warm notes of alcool and powerful at the palate, next one please!!!!! Second bottle coming from the grain d'Orges, drinking it at home, in Epalinges, today. Version of 2013, this beer is really interesting, perfect aroma of sourness, cherry, discreet side of porto barrel, dry malt, some hop, subtle hop, you don't have the impression to drink one at 10%, you get a subtle side of vanilla, complex and lovely.
3.0Starker, hell malziger Antrunk. Holzig, süß-kräutrig, Alkohol. Die Holzigkeit dominiert, süß-herb, langer Nachhall. Schon ziemlich süß, dennoch rund. 8/10/8/10/9/10
3.9Copper color with white head. Light woody/winey aroma and taste. Light malty with with net boozy edge.
Notes: bottle in Bruges
4.7(2013, marron clair, nez & bouche cassis-muscat aventinusiens, first liquoreux, end astringent, choco (sacré noël !))
4.2Wonderful stuff, with great balance. Florals, citrus, prune, and some we done port like the harbor is on fire. Murky maroon pour with great head. Sweet finish. Everything a Belgian dark should be. Bottle.
4.0Aroma: nice, complex, warm. Dried fruits, sweet malts, biscuits, caramel, standard belgian strong smell with just a hint of port wine. Taste is also standard for a belgian, sweet and oily (just like a port wine). Nutty, woody. Not much wine in the taste, but nice nonetheless.
3.4(330ml bottle) Pours a hazy golden body with a medium white head. Aroma of mustiness yeast, caramel, vinous, and dark fruit. Flavor of caramel, port, wood, yeast, minerals and earth with a dry finish
3.711.2oz bottle. Pours reddish amber with a medium beige head. Aroma is fruit cake, toffee, port, sugar, spice, plum, and light roast. Taste is toffee, toast, some port, Belgian yeast, spice, fruit cake, and very light wood. A hint of raisin at the end. Some chocolate surfaces slightly from the port. Belgian yeast lingers, as does a little wood. A little bitterness. Some alcohol on the tongue, but more subdued than in the regular Tsjeeses. Medium body. Medium carbonation. Crisp-ish mouthfeel.
3.9Bottle at home. Pours cloudy brown with a medium, bubbly light beige head, medium-short retention. Aroma is moderately oxidized (wet brown paper, sherry) port and rich, dark fruits with rich malt (bread, caramel, cookie), candied fruit reminiscent of fruit cake with soft alcohol notes. Flavor is bright alcohol, not fusel, with moderate oxidative notes of sherry and wet brown paper, rich bready and caramel malt, dark fruits and port with a sweet finish. Full body and medium carbonation with medium alcohol warmth.
3.92013 - Colore ambrato, schiuma compatta e persistente.
3.8Bottle. 2013 Vintage; Bottled July 2014; BB Aug 2019; Drank July 2017 - Orange amber in colour. Medium creamy off-white head. Malty; caramel, candy sugar, bready, oaky. Fruity; dark fruits, raisins, plums, port notes. Mildly spicy. Yeasty; sedimented. Sweet malty fruity spicy yeasty throughout. Rich, smooth and fairly dry. Liked this. Good stuff. (2017-07)
4.2Bouteille de 33 cl. Couleur ocre rouge- brun, mousse assez faible , tenue moyenne. Carbonnation moyenne. Trouvée à Roby - Menin.
4.4Really smooth, balanced stuff. Aroma is caramel malt yeast and grapes. Flavor is similar to nose comma sweet dominates along with caramel malt a little Spice in the background and bitter in the Finish. Excellent carbonation and body. Very nice drinking beer
4.0Very-well rounded BSA. Mild aroma of roasted nuts and port. Tastes of even more port and woody brown sugar, finishes bitter with dried fruits. Avoids being syrupy or overly sweet.
4.0Aroma:
Slight/medium aroma of malts, caramel, Belgian yeast, wood, overripe fruit, red fruit, chocolate and roasted malts.
Appearance:
Turbid/opaque dark orange/brown beer with heavy yeast and with a slight/medium beige head.
Taste/Palate:
Starts medium/heavy sweet with malts, caramel, Belgian yeast, wood, overripe fruit, red fruit and chocolate; ends slighlty bitter and dry with roasted malts.
Overall:
This beer is intense, complex and balanced. Great to have a fucking 2012 version of this beer that I found online. That port barrel and the age softened all the flavours, but made it beautiful at the same time. What a lovely flavour, so rich with loads of flavours. The aroma is the only downfall of this beer, but the taste is marvelous.
Superbe.
3.6How: Bottle.

3.8Bottled (2011 vintage) at AndySnow tasting. Clear deep amber, rich head. Aroma of sweet red apples, caramel and raisin. Sweet with full body and well rounded mouthfeel. Oxidized caramel, mild tones of port, dough. Mildly warming finish. Very harmonious, but probably past its prime.
Aroma: graan, zoet, donker fruit, port wijn.
Smaak: zoet, graan, fruitig, wijn, alcohol.
Veel koolzuur en een medium mondgevoel.
3.4Bottle, 2013 vintage. Starts to come out of the bottle as soon as the cap is cracked. Left alone, starts to climb out on its own. Pours an auburn red with a very large, beige head. Aroma is fruity, fruitcake, boozy, yeast, fermented fruit, dried fruit. Hard fruit candy. Port wine in the background, somewhat sweet, honey. Taste is port vinous, dried fruit, caramel, fruitcake. Alright, but not too special.
3.9Nice wine barrel nose. Sweet dried fruits and caramel. Bit of musty wood. Sweet caramel glaze and honey sugar in the taste. Not so clear port there. Otherwise similar to other versions.
