3.8 330ml bottle served in a snifter glass. Pours a dark amber to brow color. Cloudy. Forms a medium thin and creamy beige head when poured. Medium persistent and lots of thin and spotty lacings left in the glass. Sour and fruity nose. Strong notes of apple vinegar. Oak and caramel malts. Plastic and metallic hints. Taste follows the nose: Fruity and acid. Strong notes of apple vinegar, candi Sugar. Light hops bitterness. Medium body. Low carbonation. Molasses sensation. Sour vinegar in the aftertaste. Persistent but not aggressive. Great drinkability. Excellent Flanders Ale. De Struise quality.
4.4 Botella. @El Cabanón, Avilés 10/10/2015 BBD:31/01/2018 Botella @Grote Dorst. Lennik. 31/10/2021 botella 2009. Color marron oscuro, aromas madera, agrio, muy buena
4.0 bottle, pours cloudy brown with fast falling creamy colored head. Aroma of milk chocolatte, red wine, vanilla, bourbon, cherry and vinegar. In taste nice ballance of medium sourness and medium sweetness with a touch of bitterness and tartness in the finish. Quit mild version of an sour ale with a medium body, but still very complex.
3.7 Bottle from Voldby. Hazy dark brown with a beige head. Aroma is sweet, malty, caramel, wood and tart. Flavor is quite sweet and moderate acidic. Dry and moderate acidic finish. 290915
3.7 (bottle, 33cl, Ypres Reserva 2011) Dark brown colour with a beige medium-sized foamy head. Acidic, vinegary aroma with hints of dried fruits, funky and mildly roasted malty notes. Moderately sour and delicately sour flavour, medium bodied with a modest carbonation. Slightly roasted malty base with mildly fruity notes and present sourish, tart accents; dry and vinegary finish with woody and slightly roasted malty notes towards the aftertaste. 15.IX.15
3.7 Bottle. Pours murky reddish brown with non existing head. Aroma had metal. But as it warmed up it disappeared and it grew a lot. Vinegar, toffee malt, raisins, vanilla, oak, bourbon. Taste is sweet, vanilla, oak red wine, and then really vinegarish and sour. Some dark sweet, raisins, coconut notes and bourbon. Burn sugar and figs. Bitter tannings in dry finish and high carbonation.
3.8 Bottle.Dark reddish brown colour with small head.Aroma is sweet and vinious with taste of oak and berries, smooth with taste of portwin and cherry nice sweet with strong warming finish.
3.9 Pours a dark body with a thin beige head. Aroma of barrels and dried fruit. Very nice and fruity taste with a fizzy feel.
3.7 2010 double barrel aged fob: dark, with roasted malt and cherry taste. Taste is bitter sour, with strong cherry note.
4.1 Bottle of 2010. Dark brown with small beige head. Aroma with cherry noted. Balanced sweetsour taste with strong cherry presence followed by soft medium strong bitterness.
4.0 50 cl 2010 vintage wow this beer gushes wildly in opening Pours a mid dark brown with a off white head Aroma is bit of smoke sourish tones with light grain Taste is sour with fruit and a long dry sour finish interesting beer
4.5 50cl 2009 ed., bottle at home 5/7/15. Very dark brown colour, foamy beige head that nicely laces the beer. Rich and complex nose and taste with vinous Flemish red tones, sour cherries, tard, roasted malts and bourbon, cask notes. Bourbony aftertaste, lingers nicely. Lively carbonation, medium body. Compared to the Ypres Reserva, I like the vinous barrel aging of the Reserva better, works better with the base ale. Re-rate 2020. No gusher! Beautiful mahogany dark brown ale, creamy beige head that's (still) nicely stable. Got more sweet, porto-ish and beautifully mellowed compared to my first rate: perfect balance in cherry and wine acidity with earthy, chocolate roasted malty notes and still nice red wine and bourbon barrel character. Looong linger. Good body, lively carbonation.
3.0 Thanks to Mathieu87 for that one! Bottle looks really good. What a gusher! Maybe 1/3 of it made it into my glass. Light brownish, small head. Starts sourish, mild fruity, some nutty notes. Finish moldy-sourish. Not my favourite Struise beer.
3.5 Bottle, full out gusher on opening. Whoah. Pours hazy ruby chestnut, small fizzy tan head, dissipates quickly, some lacing. Aroma is tart cherry, oak, vanilla. Flavor is light plus tart, oak, molasses, tart cherries, a bit of vanilla. Medium body, high carbonation. Eh.
4.6 Aroma di frutta secca e vino al palato sentore di frutta uva e finale di malti tostati.Versa un colore mogano e schiuma persistente.Bottiglia 2009 veramente uno spettacolo per il palato
3.8 Draught. Aroma has olives, sourness and funk. Taste is sour and slight funky with cherries and slight hints of olives. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.
3.6 Cerveja intrigante.... aparencia nao agrada muito mas depois de vertida no copo ela (se nao mto gelada) ja começa a exalar seu aroma de envelhecida em bourbon....sabor deliciosamente inquietante.....vale provar!
3.9 Draft. Muddy dark brown, thin large-bubbled tan head. Some murky maroon hues when held to the light. Oaky aroma. Some sweet cherry, green oak, vanilla, a hint of bourbon and dash of balsamic. Smooth flavor, not intensely sour. A little chocolate, cherry cola, oak, vinegar at the swallow. Green apple and pear, too. Lingering lactic bite. Malty. Medium body, moderate carb with a lot of fizz as it moves. Smooth blend, good flavor. I really like what the bourbon adds.
4.0 Bottle vintage 2010, 7%. Very dark brown with big beige head. Aroma is malt, sour fruits, caramel, dark fruits, vinegar, oak ,sour and a little wine. Flavour is malt, sour fruits, chocolate, caramel, dark fruits, medium sweet, little sour, little dry, little wine, little vanilla, little acid and a little bitter.
4.2 2010 bottle. Very beautiful deep rouge with great pillow of cream. Mature aromas - woody, heady rich yet sharp berry fruit in a cellar. Rich berries and vinous notes, sweet / tart and oaky. Red wine. Classy.
3.8 On tap @ Stumbling Monk. Pours hazy dark brown with a slight reddish tint and medium cream colored head. Aroma is crisp lightly sweet malt, light tartness in the back. Taste is crisp clean rich neutral brown malt; oaky, earthy mild sour flavor on the back that lingers through the finish. Fairly mild sour, but works well with the clean rich malt.
3.1 Wonderfully fruity and sour, crisp body, aged in the barrels really nice adds a good liquor flavoring.
3.6 Bottle from Voldby Købmandsgaard - (2010 vintage) dark brown pour with tan head. Fruity sour aroma and taste, dark berry fruits, mild to high acidic, wooden notes, complex and enjoyable. Very nice.
3.2 Bottle from Voldby. 2010 edition. Pours dark brown with a tan head. Fruity sour taste, dark dried fruits and berries, malts. Medium body. Dry sour finish.
