Summit Hefe Weizen

Summit Hefe Weizen

Summit Hefe Weizen is brewed with a high percentage of malted wheat, then a small amount of authentic German weizen yeast is left behind to help maintain its brewery freshness. And that’s what accounts for Hefe Weizen’s unique cloudy appearance.

3.2 Tap. Hazy orangeish pour with a white head. Aroma of clove and wheat. Tastse same but less intense. Decent beer.
2.8 Tap. Light clear orange pour, quickly disolving carbonation and a light banana yeast aroma. Flavor is slightly soured banana, light sweet sugar and a finished with a little clove. Ok, but a far cry from a good representation of the style.
3.5 Bottle to pint glass. Swirled halfway through the pour to re-suspend yeast. Pour is a hazy straw gold, with a billowing white head that slowly fades to decent lacing. Aroma is light banana, some cloves, decent slug of yeast. Also some nice white grape notes in there as well. Taste is more yeast forward, with the same cloves and spice present in larger volumes. Mouthfeel is slightly sweet and a bit chalky. Slight astringent finish. Not a bad beer.
3.1 tap pours hazy gold with a medium white head. Aroma and flavor are strong yeast esters of banana and spice with grassy grains.
4.2 12 oz. bottle from HVWS poured into a 12 oz. glass. I’ve also had about 8 pints of this at Old Chicago- this review also applies to the beer on tap, which is very similar. Aroma: Very yeasty. Cloves also present in high amounts. Appearance: Appropriately cloudy. 1.5" of sudsy white foam that sticks around for a long time. Mid-orange color. Taste: Just excellent. Sweet start, with somewhat bitter finish. Flavors are more clove than banana, bananas are subtle until the beer warms, when they really flourish. Palate: Lively, medium body. Overall: American breweries typically struggle to do a good Hefe. This is an exception. Great bouquet of flavors, just right on the mark. Quite sessionable. Try enjoying this beer warm (around 50 F). You’ll be pleasantly surprised. 4.2 overall.
3.2 Bottle. Pour is cloudy yellow with a soapy white head that fades to a film. Aroma is malty yeast bread and and lemon. Taste is hops bread and yeast with a little lemon bitterness in the end. Palate is thin to medium and fizzy with a chaulky dry finish.
2.9 12 oz bottle. Pours a hazy golden pour with a decent frothy whitish head. Laces ok as it dies to a smallish film. Aromas are touches of bananas, lemons, with touches of stale bread dough. Touches of citrusy fruit, lemons. Initial is bananas and fruity apples, bread dough. Stronger on sweet fruity esters, bread dough, lemons and banana. Into the middle a bit thinner with touches of bitterness, fruity esters, banana, touches of cloves. Finish throws touches of tart fruit, flaked wheat and bready malts. Fairly clean and fruity, sweeter edges Hefe lacking complexity and thick, rich flavors. Ok American version, a bit thin with vanilla, honey, banana. Too sweet but thin for my liking.. Strange..
3.7 Bottle. A - Nice hazed lemony gold with a full, fluffy, thick, creamy white head. Good retention leaving a thin lace. S - Nice aroma full of typical Hefeweizen scents. Strong banana, bubblegum, and wheaty bread. Clove is in the back providing a nice spicy kick on the finish. Pretty well balanced. T - More tangy wheat and bready flavor than the nose suggested. Some spiciness and lemony citrus comes out as well. Some banana and bubblegum in the background. M - Lightish body with average carbonation. A little too thin and watery - lacking the really nice creaminess. D - Easy to drink, not as much banana flavors. Goes down really easy though. Notes: Good domestic hefeweizen, not as much banana/bubblegum with a bit more tangy wheat and bready flavors. Good although I was not blown away. Balanced beer overall.
3.2 Pours cloudy yellow with white head, aroma of banana, bubblegum, some clove, lots of fruity esters. Not a bad hefe overall, nice sweet banana, esters, bubblegum, and a touch of clove finishing sweet, but not enough spice to balance.
3.2 Pours a hazy golden orange with a one finger white head that hangs around for a while. Very sweet aroma, can’t really put my finger on it, maybe a little bubblegum? Taste is very sweet. Beer is moderately carbonated but still very smooth with a quick finish, watery medium bodied.
3.0 Bottled@Monks Café, Sveavägen (during Summer 2010). Hazy yellowish golden colour, small white hea. Aroma is wheat, quite much citrus fruits, mild bready notes as well as some slight spicy notes. Flavour is being quite much the same in a rather refreshing way.
3.3 For some reason I wasn’t expecting much from this one..probably a previous bad experience with a Summit beer. Anyway this was a surprising good one! I might even have this at one of my home parties = good brew!!!
2.4 On tap. Pours hazy orange with a small, but fluffy, white head. Aroma is bubble gum, spices, and slight banana. Flavor is spicy and a hint of bubble gum. Thin on the palate. Let down after the pleasant aroma.
3.3 Nice but hard to compare against the traditional german offerings, still very enjoyable
2.5 Did this beer under go a change? It used to be on tap all over the place then was gone. Tried again and it seemed different. Less flavorful than before and a little watery. Serving: Bottle and tap
3.5 12 oz bottle. Pours a moderately hazy glowing golden orange with a small fluffy white head. Aroma is heavy banana, some clove and bubble gum. The wheat and slight graininess is present. Flavor starts with mostly bubble gum and banana, very sweet, a bit sugary and candyish. The wheat really picks up halfway through although the beer does stay pretty sweet throughout. A small spiciness in the finish. Medium body and a soft but prickly carbonation. I see there have been many bad ratings. Perhaps I got some fresh bottles but I thought it was a decent hefeweizen.
2.7 Orange cream and hazy straw fills my glass under a huge head. Hefeweizens are supposed to pour with a massive head which is why one often finds them being poured in glasses that are much larger than the bottle itself. This allows the brew to be poured in one full sweep while allowing the head to rise to the highest heights without overflowing. It truly is a beauty to observe. Zipping my way is a proper nose of banana bread, banana pudding, and doughy white bread; a little under-baked maybe. Clove permeates while lemon zest and lemon cream brightens her presence. The first quaff is full, chewy, and rich with banana bread fresh from the oven, steam rising from her golden-brown top which exudes clove esters. There is a bitter lemon rind finish which cleanses my palate in time for more bready banana delights and clove spice. Green banana flickers here and there, but not enough to detract from her overall enjoyment. A constant presence in the front of each quaff is lemon zest and a general citric brightness, but again, never enough to detract from her banana bread clovey delights which immediately pick up from where she leaves off. This is a German-style Hefeweizen, after all. As is the case with pretty much all Hefeweizens when I get my lips wrapped around them, they don’t last long.
2.9 Bottle poured a cloudy golden amber with a lasting off white head. Aromas of wheat, citrus, light spice and light yeast. Palate was medium bodied and crisp with a dry finish. Flavors of wheat, citrus, straw and yeast with a crisp dry finish.
3.5 Had from the bottle before the Darius Rucker/Brad Paisley concert in Tinly Park, IL. Cloudy pale orange in color. Taste is of banana, citrus and clove. Decent Hefe, easy finish.
2.9 This beer was so so. It was nothing special ansd certainly nothing like it’s German counterparts. It is a good smmer beer that is more like a traditional American beer, rather than a German beer. If it is cheap, buy it. If you have something else in mind, get the something else.
3.0 Wheat, fresh fruits, banana, and clove. Flavors are similar especially banana and wheat. Spiced and fizzy mouthfeel. Decent carbonation. Good quencher on a hot day.... like today.
3.5 12 oz bottle from the Four Firkins. Dark yellow/orangish pour, cloudy with lots of head. Very nice lacing. Standard hefe aroma - wheat, yeast and spice. Flavor is much more subtle than the aroma. Not much yeast but more citrusy with a hint of spice. Tangy finish. Nice, easy drinking beer.
2.7 Poured from bottle. Pronounced banana, clove, and a touch of band-aid on the nose. Pours a light yellow with minimal head. Typical hefe profile on the tongue, save that once again we’ve got a band-aid/latex thing going on. It’s all right, but it’s nowhere near German quality.
3.1 Bottle. Hazy orange straw pour with a white head. Nice clove and wheat aroma. Taste is less notable - similar to the aroma but not spectacular.
3.5 A-pours a cloudy pale straw yellow color with a relatively tight white head leaving nice lace on the glass. S-the nose is quite strong, wheat, lemon, spicy clove. T-this has a nice amount of wheat and lemon, notes of banana. touch of spicy clove in the back, just a bit watery. M-very syrupy, thick body with a little bit of a lack of carbonation to balance that out. smooth on the palate and creamy. D-big bold flavors with just a hint of watered down flavor in the back. lacks carbonation which detracts a little but other than that a solid hefe.
3.3 Golden with a decent off-white head. Aroma is of grain, yeast and light citrus. Taste is of grain and yeast.
2.9 Bottled at Monk’s Café Walingatan, Stockholm. Hazy deep golden, minimal head. Aroma of ripe banana. Mid sweet with clean, rounded mouthfeel and medium body. Lightly spicy with notes of toffee. Low bitterness. Quite refreshing. A correct weizen, but nothing great.
2.7 Bottle Pours a cloudy orange color with a medium white head. Aroma is sweet, orange, metal. Flavor is citrus, honey, bit of clove and wheat. This was quite a bit too sweet for a hefe.
2.9 ( 12oz bottle, courtesy of blutt59 ) Pours a clear yellow body with a medium white head. Aroma of banana, wheat, light lemon, and sulfur. Flavor of banana, sulfur, wheat, light lemon, and subtle wheat.
2.9 Looks like a typical macro oddly enough. Dark gold color in appearance. Some spice aroma, yeast and citrus. Flavor is similar; some spice and citrus with a barely detectable menthol/mint aftertaste on the tongue. Overall, this an average hefe in my opinion.
