Summit Oatmeal Stout

Summit Oatmeal Stout

While it may resemble a popular Irish Stout, our Oatmeal Stout is quite different. Most notably it's sweeter. Chocolate, coffee and caramel flavors round out this smooth, full-bodied beer.

2.8 on tap pours black, with some thin foam aroma is toasted malts. Body was medium, with some stickiness. Taste was moderately sweet, with low bitterness.
3.4 Tap. Solid but not great oatmeal stout. Its smooth and creamy, not overly complex in flavor, nice head and lacing, looks pretty.
3.5 From the tap at FireLake Grill House & Cocktail Bar, Minneapolis, MN. Pours black, with some cappuccino foam, unfortunately very cold. Had to "hug it" for minutes. Aroma, consequently, was not much. A little toasted malts. Body was medium, with some stickiness. Taste was moderately sweet, with low bitterness, and a bittersweet finish given by the oatmeal. Nice beer.
4.5 My experience with summit is still relatively limited and has generally been on the hoppier spectrum. Their Oatmeal Stout makes it obvious they can handle dark beer too. It hits all the right notes. Black body with a rich layer of suds. Roast/toast malt aromas. Semi-sweet flavors with assertive coffee and chocolate characteristics. While not hugely boozy there’s some pleasant warmth to this. Thick, smooth, dry, and creamy textures. Very tasty.
3.4 Nitro tap at Edina Grill in Minneapolis. Poured black, creamy, lasting tan head. Aroma was roasted malts, coffee, vanilla. Taste was bittersweet, roasted coffee, caramel.
3.7 nitro tap - Pours near black with the typical big, long lasting head of a nitro tap. It’s light tan and laces heavily. The aroma is of roast malt and coffee. The taste is similar and is sweet but not too sweet. Medium to full bodied. Very good.
3.5 On nitro tap at the University Library Cafe. Black appearance with a tan head. Aroma of chocolate malt, light coffee and light roasted grain. Similar flavor with a smooth, creamy feel. Solid stout overall.
3.9 On tap at MSP airport. Nice dark colour, beige head. Beautifully balanced stout with roasty malt coffee and chocolate combining well with a hint of oaty flapjack. Slips down super easily, good flavour, sensible abv.
3.0 Not a ton of flavor. Kind of a root beer finish.kind of light for Not a ton of flavor. Sort of light for a stout. Kind of a root beer finish. Not bad if you're looking for a lighter stout
3.3 Tap at kierans with commonmac and samdueche. Very dark brown with medium off white head with good lacing. Subtle aroma. Mild roasted sweet malt flavor, smooth even finish. Not remarkable, but decent.
4.4 Sets up beautifully. Nice and creamy, very easy to drink. Subtle chocolate and cream. Good milk stout.
4.5 Deep black color, opaque in the relatively dim lighting of the restaurant. Light carbonation. 3/4 inch off-white to tan creamy thick head. Attractive lacing clings as you drink The verbal deScription does not do it justice... this is a gorgeous looking beer. Malty sweet aroma with hints of roastiness. Moderately thick mouth feel, very smooth and creamy. A bit of carbonation apparent to the tongue. Matly, smokey, hints of cocoa flavor. Slight bittering in the middle. Clean, crisp, slightly bitter finish. Absolutely wonderful.
3.7 On draft at Ike’s on Summit at the MSP airport. Pours a clear dark cola with a tan head. Aroma of roasted malt. Flavors of coffee, chocolate and leather. Smooth, creamy finish.
3.9 On tap Pour black with big foamy nitro head. Aromas of milk chocolate, vanilla and roasted malts Flavors of creamy dark milk chocolate, sugar, and dry roasted malts. Sweet and full.
3.7 C. Pours a black color with thick khaki head. Aromas and flavors of coffee and chocolate. The nitro version is not as good*
3.5 Keg @ Lyndale Tap House. Deep brown with a creamy tan head. Attractive beer. Pleasant nose. Sweet without being sharp or cloying. Oatmeal cookies. Cocoa powder, chocolate milk. Mellow coffee. Sweet and creamy flavor. Chocolate cookies. Mild roast on the finish. Silky, full mouthfeel. Good stuff.
3.1 ON nitro at the golden saucer. Good flavor but lacks depth. For me, the profile ends with a little bit of a watery finish.
3.5 Tap/nitro - big cream color head, pitch black color, big roasty coffee aroma and flavor, smooth creamy finish, good for a stout
3.8 Great tasting beer lacks aroma but I do not drink beer for the smell I would recommend this beer to joe who is sitting next to me
3.7 On nitro. Pours an opaque cola. Coffee cream head. Chocolate and light coffee aroma. Creamy mouthfeel and burnt biscuit flavor.
3.8 Had on nitro tap. Was great and deeply creamy. Sugars slip threw at the end. Deep black.
3.7 On tap at Ike’s in the Minneapolis-St. Paul airport. On nitro, how could this look anything but beautiful? A Deep brown stout capped with a cappuccino colored foam, soft and dense. The aroma of sweet coffee, with a dash of cream, and as I take my first drink I realize that the flavors are mirrored perfectly. The taste is sweet, and as much as I am not a fan of sweet Stout, this one is actually pretty tasty and not overboard with the sweetness. Thick creamy body with a touch of carbonation, just enough to liven the beer, but enough to kill the experience of a nitro on my tongue. Great stuff, very tasty with an enjoyable body. I would do this again.
4.1 Had this on nitro at Foster’s Pint & Plate in Rogers. Pours dark brown with a creamy off white head (thanks to nitro). Aroma is an even blend of roast and dark chocolate. Mouthfeel was very creamy and smooth. Really nice beer, and even better on nitro.
3.3 Dark black. Thick lacing. Creamy head. Sweet. ...very sweet. Somewhat chocolate after sweetness fades.
5.0 Smooth oatmeal taste with a fair amount of boldness at the end. As far as oatmeal stouts this is the standard of measures.
3.6 16oz Draft 12/28/14 (High Life Lounge-DSM)-Pours black with a decent tan head. Aroma of sweetness, coffee, and chocolate. Taste of the same. This medium to full bodied brew is well balanced and I was pleasantly surprised. Great.
3.6 Tasted on nitro tap at Seamus O’Daniels in Dogtown, seated at the bar next to the Irish flags, union stickers, and toughs complaining about today’s bathroom drywall jobs. It poured opaque black, that is, after the cascading tan foam settled back into fluid, with a persistent head and lots of lace. Nondescript grainbill, no real malt complexity. I didn’t get much chocolate, coffee, caramel, bread, toast, toffee, dark fruit, roasted barley, etc. Sufficient bitterness but lacked hop flavours/aromas too. Sweeter than Guinness, with less metallic bite, but not very malty-sweet in its own right. Nice full body with smooth and creamy mouthfeel from so much oatmeal. It’s obviously all about the nitro presentation; not bottled, only served on tap at logical Irish-themed bars, etc. Good, no glaring faults, but not the greatest overall.
3.1 Pleasing finely foamed head, liittle aroma, pleasant caramel and chocolate taste
3.4 Cask (gravity) @ GBBF 2013, Great British Beer Festival, London Olympia, Hammersmith Road, London, England W14 8UX. [ As Summit Vanilla Cafe Mocha Oatmeal Stout ]. Clear dark black brown color with a small, fizzy, fair lacing, fully diminishing, off-white head. Aroma is heavy malty, roasted, oat, chocolate, coffee, vanilla. Flavor is heavy sweet and moderate to heavy bitter with a long duration, dusty coffee - mocha, vanilla, chocolate, vanilla beans. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is flat flat. [20130814]
3.8 DRAFT at Flying Saucer in Little Rock. Almost black with thin tan head. Nose is sweet with hints of coffee and chocolate. Taste in very similar. A definite session stout....excellent.
