Summit Sága IPA

Summit Sága IPA

We’re proud to announce the new Summit Sága IPA, a decidedly different hop-forward brew due out in early May 2012. The beer has pronounced hop flavors and aromas of kiwi, passionfruit, apricot and gooseberry. Clean, assertive bitterness with balancing Pale malt characteristics. We hop it with the rare New Zealand Rakau hop along with Citra, Centennial and Amarillo. Named after the Norse Goddess of Poetry, who was the God Odin’s drinking companion... also, it was quite a saga to pick a name!

3.7 Dark golden to light amber in color. Taller mostly lasting, off-white head. Decent lace. Hoppy aromas, with ruby red grapefruit, tropical fruit (including mango and papaya). Pale malt and marzipan also join in the scents. Sweeter start, with a mild acidity. Quite fruity. Bits of citric zest wander about. 5/12
3.3 on tap orange pour medium white head fruity nose. Mostly pine and citrus taste
3.3 Really nice cloudy amber appearance with good lacing. Kind of flat / oily texture with mild soap and a hint of grapefruit and pine. Not great but definitely drinkable.
3.5 On tap at Outback Steakhouse, Bloomington, MN. Fresh pineapple juice aroma with a little base malt. Crystal clear copper under a lacy, white sheet. Mostly tropical hops flavour with assertive, clean bitterness and a medium base malt and light caramel backbone. Medium body, medium carbonation, crisp.
3.4 12 oz bottle. BB 11/27/16. (Little Brown Jug) Biwabik, MN. Cloudy orangey golden color with a small off-white head. Orange, fruity hops, mild bitterness, mild yoghurt notes and sweetish malt in the aroma. Not bad. The flavor is fruity and piney hops, mild bitterness, dryness and malt. Pretty decent IPA. A bit thinnish though.
3.4 12oz bottle, can’t believe I haven’t rated this before . Dark gold with white head. Heavy grapefruit nose with hops. Bitter, cloying, strong grapefruit. Finish is the same, lasts long especially when cold. This beer gets more love than it deserves but it’s ok.
3.9 Clear gold, lovely white head, super lacey. Aroma of pine and celery. Crisp on the tongue, pretty good stuff, more an English style IPA, a nice bready, earthy flavor to balance the hops out.
2.6 Sample at Omaha Beer Fest, Stinson Park. 6-11-16. Pours cloudy, golden, white head. Aroma of hops, grapefruit rind. Taste was bitter, pine resins.
3.6 Bottle. Pours out a decent orangy color with a small white head. Aroma is of lots of lemon zest, some citrusy hops, grass, light cereal, some grain. Taste is solid, lemon peel, some citrus, light floral grassy notes, grain.
3.7 Pours a nice deep amber color. Aromas of citrus. Strong hop flavors with malts and a dry finish.
4.2 Bottle 35.5cl. Hazy golden with a white head. Strong aroma of american hops, citrus in particular but also pine. Nice. Flavour is refreshing, bitter with a lot of taste. Great IPA.
3.3 Medium hazy amber with light head. Earthy and herbal hop notes on nose. Slightly grainy, very bitter, white grapefruit, pepper, juniper, light toffee. Clean, medium mouthfeel, wet coating on mouth, moderately bitter finish. Not bad.
3.9 Bottle at Marriott MSP. Aroma was a nice citrus and citrus fruit, and a little bit of pine. Light amber color with a white head that lasts a long time, and nice lacing. A bit of citrus hoppiness in the flavor, that turns into a little piney aftertaste. Pleasant though. Med-light bodied. Overall, I thought it was initially an old school piney west coast IPA, but it evolved into a fruity combination of the two. Pretty nice! EDIT: Draft at Marriott MSP. Same comments as before.
4.0 3/IV/16 - 33cl bottle from a trade @ home - BB: 7/VIII/16 (2016-305) Thanks to Brian L for the trade! Clear orange beer, creamy off-white head, little stable, very adhesive. Aroma: very floral, some tropical fruits, lots of pineapple, caramel malts. MF: ok carbon, medium body. Taste: very bitter, fruity, mango, some citrus, pineapple. Aftertaste: lots of grapefruit, bitter, bit malty, some honey.
3.9 Bottle at tderoeck's place, thanks! Bitter, orange, citrus, exotic, tasty stuff!
3.4 Pours a clear golden yellow from the can with thin white head that leaves moderate lace. Aroma of resinous pine hops and a hint of biscuit. Taste is a bit more toward the malt with a hint of the hops. Clean and easy, no abv listed on the keg.
3.5 Drank on tap at the Vault in Scranton, Pa. Pours crystal clear with a bit of carbonation, a bit of head, yellowish orange. Smells delicious for an IPA, tastes nice and drinkable, well done Summit!
3.8 Poured from a 6-pack of cans (+), cloudy orange amber with dark tornado, Taste is sticky dry hops, sweet malt, gritty, & citrus.
3.3 On tap at hair of the dog. Clear deep gold pour with thick creamy white head. Aroma is nice and hoppy, floral, grassy, light caramel. Taste is bitter, grassy, piney with just a touch of caramel. Palate is med bodied with light carbonation. Good.
3.4 12 oz bottle. Pours opaque dark golden color. Aroma of citrus, apricot, hint of spruce. flavor is citrus, grapefruit, with a harsher bitterness coming in quickly.
3.8 Draft. Aroma has a floral happy note. Nice golden copper body with thick foamed head. Flavor is piney, grassy, light tone of sweet malt at the end.
3.5 C. Pours a burnt orange color with white head. Good flavor but has a bite on the finish
3.5 Draft @ Varsity Pub (Marshall, MN). Poured hazy, golden in color, small white head. Aroma of citrus and tropical fruits; some malts and some grain. Taste is bitter and fruity, very well balanced with malts. Very solid IPA, very enjoyable and easy to drink.
3.9 Pours a slightly hazy golden orange color with very pale apricot colored edges and a one finger pillowy white head that slowly settles into a thin, lasting ring. Streaks of soapy lacing coat the glass on the way down. Great looking beer. Dank resinous hop aroma with a nice balance of floral, citrus and earthy qualities. Hints of fresh cut grass and juicy nuggets along with pine needle and a touch of tropical/citrus fruit sweetness. Very faint tart grapefruit and pineapple sweetness countering the earthier notes. Subtle onion-y summit presence in there as well. Pale malt backbone with some bread, biscuit and light fruit. Nice balance without interfering hinder the juicy hop profile. Medium body wih a blast of dry, sticky bitterness that’s countered by sweeter hop flavors and a pale malt backbone. Decent amount of dryness with resinous oils and earthy bitterness. Dank buds and grassy pine sap but it’s not overwhelming. Fresh and juicy with prominent citrus and tropical fruit sweetness cutting through the bitterness. Strong grapefruit and pineapple sweetness along with hints of mango, papaya and lemon peel zest. Subtle malt backbone providing nice balance without interfering with the compex hop flavors. Some bread, biscuit, cracker and light fruit notes. Bit strong complex but really well balanced and easy to drink. Could use a little more tropical/citrus sweetness but otherwise a really solid IPA from summit. Could drink this in large quantities.
3.7 Tap (Rival House); pours cloudy orange with a khaki head; floral aroma with malt, caramel, and a little pine; taste is malt with some citrus, pine, and a little caramel; finish is bitter with some citrus; pretty solid beer from Summit
3.8 Nice hop aroma, mostly citrus hop. Taste echos the aroma, citrus, grapefruit, orange, and mango. A pretty good beer to have a few of. Well balanced and drinkable.
3.6 From a 12 oz can at the MSP airport. Pours gold with a thick off white head. Grassy nose. Flavors of pineapple and toffee. Bitter finish.
3.6 Aroma: A very fruity aroma. Not unpleasant, but a bit too sweet and cloying for my taste. Appearance: Clear gold with a nice, white head. Taste: Light bitterness throughout. Palate: Light body, dry texture, soft carbonation, long finish. Overall: The fruity aromas are a clear deception. This is a hops driven beer, but just barely. It doesn’t have a watered down feel, but the bitterness of the hops are faint and distant. I’m not disappointed, and it’s a decently developed beer, but I’m not blown away either.
4.0 Pours a slightly cloudy amber color. Nice head, and some insane lacing! Head isn’t long lived. Aroma is very hoppy. Description calls for some miscellaneous tropical fruits, and I detect little of that. There’s a weed around here, it’s called bitterweed, and it smells just like that. Interesting... Taste is bitter. Like you would expect from an IPA. In fact this might even be a little more bitter than your average IPA. It’s so hop heavy that the malts are pretty much undetectable. Mouthfeel is crisp. Finishes clean, but quite bitter. Crisp but smooth Very dry.. Maybe a little citrus. Overall, it’s quite tasty. One of the better IPA’s I’ve had. If you like IPAs, try it. I was expecting an average IPA, but this was surprising.
3.7 Pours coppery-gold with a nice, lasting head. Aroma is hops, citrus, and hints of the noted kiwi and apricot; scent gets much more pronounced and bouncy as the beer warms. Taste is clean upfront citrus with nice resiny mouthfeel, fading to a balanced bitter. Good beer.
