Sunlight Cream Ale is our most approachable beer and is a great introduction to the world of Craft Beer. Cream ale is one of the earliest styles of American beer, but was virtually wiped out by American lager brewers.
Our Cream Ale is an all malt beer. Only the finest quality barley, wheat and oats are used to give this beer it’s smooth malt profile which is delicately balanced with American hops and a cool fermentation to give this beer a crisp, clean finish.

3.1Taps clear topaz with a fair ivory head. Aroma offers pomme and tropical fruit and fresh malt. Flavor delivers sweet malt, pomme and tropical notes. Texture provides fair body and fizz, and a fruity and slightly hoppy finish. Now the hops appear! Catch some sunlight!
3.0The beer pours a bright golden color, like your basic lawnmower lager, with a brief head. The smell is just slightly hoppy, only noticeably more so than the average light lager. And the taste is just a little bit sweet, with a larger dash of malt than my average cream ale. Taste is light yet malty. Just a bit of hop from its 20 IBU. A decently done post-lawnmower beer, or one for a hot summer night.
3.4Pale amber pour. White head that leaves nice lacing. Mild, sweet aroma. Caramel and oats. Medium mouthfeel. Flavor is similar to the aroma. Overall pretty sweet. Caramel malt and bread. Just a hint of hops at the end. Pretty good brew.
3.5Aroma is complex grains and a hint of oats. The flavor is fruit, mild citrus, malts and a crisp/tart finish.
3.5Taste: crisp semi sweet caramel malts, nutty, hint of hop, dry finish. Fresh grain and light malt nose. Golden hue. slightly hazy, foamy carbonated head some lace. Medium to med/light body. Almost more of a Pils than cream ale.
3.7Can at Star Bar. Exploring the cream ale scene can lead to huge variance in quality. Seems nobody wants to take the time to perfect the style. Basically you should end up with a lightly malty beer that could fool you into thinking it's a lager, right? Nice, clean fermentation with just the faintest fruity notes and an almost cereal-like body, but not quite classic pilsner malt flavors. Add in a kiss of spicy, obviously European descended hops and you've got a cream ale. Well, Sun King has hit the nail on the head with Sunlight. Great attenuation and crisp, clean flavor and aroma all around. I'd drink these by the multiples.
3.4Super light. Lots of corn. Crisp and quite dry. Thx seymour for leaving this behind.
3.0On tap at Hops & Pie. Clear golden colored appearance with a white head and light lacing. Creamy and smooth with mild malt sweetness. Light to medium body with soft carbonation and light bready notes at the finish. Overall, it's a little boring but not unpleasant.
3.2Poured from 12oz can into nonic pub glass, a clear golden colour with sudsy off-white foam, short-lived, no lace.Low but pleasant grainy aroma, hint of floral and earthy hops. Flavour was fuller than the aroma: smooth malt sweetness, not getting any of the wheat and oats. but has a noticeable hop bitterness, light body, moderate carbonation, nice dry finish. Not flawed, just not too much to it, even for a craft-brewed cream ale. Drinkable but unmemmorable.
3.0Can. Grainy malt aroma with notes of corn and grassy hops. Pours clear pale golden colored with a thin white head that has little retention and lacing. Starts with grainy malt flavors and some sweet corn. Finishes smooth and refreshing with a little bit of grassy hops. Good summer beer, but not a lot going on flavor-wise.
2.812 oz can. Pours a clear yellow-gold with a small white head. Nice aroma of sweet malt, corn and some grassiness. Flavor is sweet and biscuity with a nice dry finish.
3.0355ml can. Golden pour. Aroma is basic sweet grain. Flavor is sweetish, some herbs, okay.
2.5Pour from a 16oz can. Clear darker golden brew with small head that quickly flattens. Weak aroma of light malts and faint fruity hops. Taste is clean light malt up front with a modest clean hops finish - frankly not much taste or character here at all, but what is here is very clean with no off tastes. I like cream ales and while this is very well crafted it’s just so-so in terms of taste and character.
3.3Pours clear yellow with little head. It has a light rough body with minor sharp carbonation. The taste has very light malt, smoothness and some herbs. Decent cream she.
2.7Can poured into shaker. Malt taste and a little heavy on the carbonation. More pilsner than cream ale. Buttery aroma. All around average brew.
3.0A pretty okay cream ale. Smooth mouthfeel, lightly sweet with a bready aroma. Picked this up at the Indy airport on my way back to Omaha in 2016.
2.4Sampled at GABF 2015. I negleced to post this one and this is from my tasting notes from last year. In the tasting glass gold with a white head. Nose of light malts. Light body. Flavor is malty and there is just not much taste here. I notice this won a gold medal at the the festival. Not sure why?
2.7can. meh - very simple, crisp little beer. Didn’t expect much - not bad by any means, but nothing spectacular
3.2The smell of this beer leaves me perplexed. It has subtle notes of floral and dare I say it mud. A quick sniff of the can confirmed it wasn't the glass. This beer however makes up for it in flavor! Wonderful on the tongue and light going down.
1.6Heavy malt aroma. Thin, watery, no head. Some vanilla flavor but otherwise boring.
3.4At the brewery. Wheat and creamy with a hint of lemon. Just like the Little Kings of my youth.

3.22015 BJCP Category: 1C Cream Ale
AROMA: Light sweet malt with a lemony character. Classic lager aroma in the background. 9/12
APPEARANCE: Crystal clear amber/golden hue. Off-white suds evaporate quickly and completely. 1/3
FLAVOR: General sweetness with a faint honey flavor. Oats may account for the sweetness. Some maize-like presence in the background, though not in the style of a cheap beer. Hops are quite low. 14/20
MOUTHFEEL: Light body with a thin, flat mouthfeel. Smooth, refreshing and quaffable. Clean aftertaste. Should have more body considering the ABV and higher CO2. 3/5
OVERALL IMPRESSION: Pretty tasty for a cream ale, though might be better judged (and marketed) as a blonde ale. 6/10
TOTAL SCORE: 33/50

2.9From an old can that was kept in the fridge. Aroma is heavy caramel, which I think is a result of the age. Flavor reflects that too. Not a bad, beer; just not much of a cream ale at this point.
3.4Aroma of corn, wheat, taste is very light, straw, hay, very light but drinkable.
3.5Very blonde. Light golden color with a white head that doesn't last long. Cereal aroma with a hint of malts and grass. Creamy taste with light malt aftertaste. Not bad.
2.8Taster... Pale gold, mild hop aroma. Clean fresh malt presence... Cool and refreshing...
2.6Can. Has a nice clear cooper. Has a light body taste.
A creamy sweet malt taste. Low standards beer.
3.0Plain pilsner-like aroma with some lemon rind. Taste is pilsner-like with some lemon juice. Some cereal malt in the finish. I don’t know what is going on, but I remember the sweet cereal malt being really present in this when I had it before.
3.1Can, someplace in Indianapolis I can’t remember. Nothing creamy or tasty here - just lots of plain and uninteresting taste with a bland start and finish.
