Our version of the West Coast Style IPA first brewed in collaboration with Amager Brewery in Denmark. Brewed with one malt, Golden Promise from the UK, with Citra and Mosaic hops. If you think Todd is a good brewer, you should hear him play his axe (guitar)! Named by Amager’s marketing director Henrik Papsø.

3.2Sweet malty aroma, not much hops. Dark gold color, scant white head. Tastes a little bland, other Surly IPA's I've had are way more bold. Watered down palate. This disappointed me.
Earlier Rating: 3/22/2017 Total Score: 4.3
I can smell the aroma from 2 or 3 feet away. Nice and sweet scent with a good dose of pine and citrus rind hops. Interesting burnt orange color with a clingy off white head. The taste alternates between good honey sweetness that is never cloying and slightly sharp hops, even in the aftertaste. Excellently carbonated palate. This is great; worthy of the lofty rating.
4.0Can from the Packie
Mostly clear light gold color with a thin bubbly white head that slowly recedes. Hops in spades. Resinous earthy pepper and pine with bits of tangerine and pineapple. Firm bitterness, very tasty.
4.0Pint can. Pours a golden orange vistilite with a medium white head. Aroma of dank grapefruit, orange and hops. Taste is much the same as the aroma.

Pint can courtesy of Todd. Pours a cloudy orange with a medium white head. Aroma of orange, Citra hops and floral notes. Taste is much the same as the aroma. Very nice IPA.
3.7[Can (473ml)] Pours a hazy golden-orange with an average size diminishing frothy white head. Aroma is juicy, fruity, hoppy and a bit sweet. Nice hoppy flavour (7+) with lots of juicy fruit, a touch of sweetness, some light alcohol and a nice bitter finish. Medium bodied. Good stuff.
3.9Pours a hazy golden orange with a soapy white head. Aroma of grapefruit, pine, and some orange. Orange, mango, and grapefruit flavor with some pine. Really nice!

4.114/5/2020. Sample courtesy of the SHIG, cheers! Pours clear bright gold with a bubbly white head. Aroma of citrus, hops, grapefruit, melon and mango with a touch of pine. Moderate sweetness and medium bitterness. Medium body, oily texture, soft carbonation. Very drinkable.

3.7Old note, 6/2019 from the brewery: gold, medium white head. aroma of citrus, caramel malts. tastes are citrus, caramel, bit dank. not used to west coast ipa's anymore. good at what it does.
3.7Pours a hazy orange gold with a slight white head.......aroma is pine, sweet malt, citrus.....taste is a bit hollow with citrus, orange zest, slight pith, mild bitterness,
4.2Can. Pours a little hazy golden with good lacing. Dank grapefruit and tangerine aroma. Malty, piney, sappy honey taste. Long bitter hop taste. Bomb. I think I liked the Amager version just a little more. Both great.
4.3On tap at Stone Arch Craft, Minneapolis Airport on 31-Jan-2020 - served in a shaker. Hazy golden amber with a small white head. Aroma of malt, tropical fruit and pine. Full body and medium carbonation. Taste of sweet malt, caramel, orange, pineapple, mango and floral hops. Moderately bitter with a fruity finish. Lovely beer.
4.1Hazy golden color with a white head. Potent citrus, pine, resin hop aromas and flavors. A bit of softness to the malt on the palate, maybe some wheat in the grist? Nice beer. Good West Coast style IPA.
4.016oz can. Poured a golden color with a medium sized head. Citrus and fruity .. nice and hoppy.
3.8Canned. Happy to randomly find this at Beerhive after a front end deadhead. Pours a hazy straw color with a huge, bubbly, tan head that lasts. Clean aroma of citrus hops and grass. Big flavor that starts with sweet malt, hits you with medium bitterness and finishes with something like lemony, sweetened black tea. Enjoyable and traditional.
3.6Hazy, light gold, tall white head.
Just full body, intensely flavorful, silky texture, lingering aftertaste, bitter finish.
Bitter, dry, crisp.
Hoppy, resinous, greens, juicy, discrete malt background.
Good, not great.
3.816oz can. Very good West Coast IPA/American IPA. Crisp and balanced. Lovely.
4.10.33l bottle. Pours hazy gold with white head. Big aroma of tropical fruits (peach, mango, papaya), citrus, pine. Taste is citrus, resinous, tropical fruits, fresh, quite bitter. Strong IPA.
3.116oz can. Pours a hazy gold with a small off-white head. Aroma is vanilla, melon, herbs, candied mango, pine, and some orange. Taste is pine resin, herbs, pineapple, mango, melon, some grapefruit, some grass, and some cracker. Some bitterness. Medium body. Medium carbonation. Crisp-to-fluffy mouthfeel.
4.2Aroma is citrus, grapefruit, and hop oils. Taste is is light sweet malts with a barrage of wonderful hop bitterness, earthiness and dankness. Excellent.
4.3Can. Yessir, this has great aromas of citrus and tropical fruit (grapefruit, passion fruit, and some lemon) over a slightly hazy light orange body. Flavor is a lovely mix of the notes from the aroma balanced against a hint of sweet malt, but just the right amount of it to make it yummy... not one of those cloying malt bomb IPA things that some monstrous brewer-fiends make. Finish is clean and light. Yup... I'll have another, please!
4.2Very good IPA. Nice hops, bit piney but well balanced. Hints of fruits
4.0Burk @ Church Key, SF. Disig bärnstensfärgad öl med ett vitt skum. Doft och smak av malt, karamell, citrus, persika, tallbarr och lättare kådatoner.
3.7On tap at The Blue Tusk (Syracuse, NY). Cloudy golden body with a thin, white foamy head. Good malty/hoppy aroma with melon hints. Alcohol is well hidden. Its well balanced hoppy taste carries malty, melon, and herbal notes. Ends with a good bittersweet finish.
4.5It pours clear, golden with a full white head. Head retention is excellent. It has a strong grapefruit citrus aroma. There is a bit of pine with bread in the background. It has a strong grapefruit flavor with some citrus elements. There are some light stone fruit notes in the background. There is also a low bready and biscuity quality as well. It has a medium body with strong bitterness. Overall, excellent IPA with strong grapefruit and a surprisingly stone fruit and biscuit quality that comes on strong through the finish.
3.7Canned less than a month ago and purchased refrigerated, so fresh. Bready malty base aroma and flavor with an earthy tropical and piney hop aroma and flavor. Malt dominates over the hops. Not as tropical hoppy as I expected. Bready malt dominates and hops are on the bitter piney side. Enjoyable but more bitter than expected. Some yeasty junk in the bottom of the can that I wouldn’t expect from this brewery that makes it more yeasty bitter.
4.4The beer looked like a prototypical IPA when poured. The body was pale amber in color, slightly hazy, and formed a one finger thick head. The aroma was very citric, evoking a delicious grapefruit. Deeper inhalation invoked some other fruits like guava and mango. The taste was bright and quit citric, reminding of grapefruit once again. The mouthfeel was medium and the alcohol non evident. Excellent.
3.91 pint can. Pours a copper color with moderate head. Aromas of dank hops, pineapple, mango, and dry toasted malts. Flavors follow same but sharper, with more pine and with more of a bitter edge. Very nice.
