Svaneke Liquorice Stout

Svaneke Liquorice Stout

Editor’s note: made in cooperation with the gourmet licorice producer "Lakrids by Johan Bülow".

Smakar mycket lakrits! Ganska fyllig trots hög kolsyra. Massor med lakrits i eftersmaken!

3.8 Rich head, sweet and liquorice smell. Pleasent richness, not too heavy. Distinct liquorice taste, sweet finish. Overall a nice stout
4.0 The smell is rich of smoked malts with notes of coffee, smoke, burnt sugar and liquorice. The color is black with a nice cappuccino brown head. The taste is sweet of raw liquorice with a hint of smoke. The liquorice really dominates the beer which makes it kind of special.
4.1 Chocolate aroma with notes of coffe with milk and vaccinia. Pitch black beige head. Taste starts bit sweet chocolate not much liquorice on the beginning, but the finish is heavy on liquorice and very longlasting. Medium to full body, low carbonation creamy texture. Nice liquorice explosion in the finish
3.8 Keg at Handverkersteune. Pours deep brown, nose of chocolate, sweet liquorice, taste is toffee, vanilla, liquorice, chocolate, sugary.
2.1 50cl bottle. Very dark brown color, but not quite clear. Aroma sweet with a small anis. Taste is liquorice, roasted but rather sweet. Moutfeel medium. A special beer, but interesting to taste.
3.5 Bottle. Pours cloudy very dark brown with ample but airy tan head. Clear aroma of malt and caramel, with roasty notes. Sweetish flavour of caramel malt and sweet liquorice, offset by hops and bitter liquorice notes. Touches of nuts. Lingering, bittersweet aftertaste. Rather high carbonation for the style. Liquorice notes permeate the entire testing experience. Decent but not really mind-blowing.
3.8 courtesy of Antonio Rey - black beer with a persistent beige foam; nice lace; fair aroma of licorice with notes of coffee and walnuts in the background; light oily, tasty and fairly carbonated, light sweetness; gently bitter and with a fair residual sweetness; more generous notes of licorice and hints of coffee in the finish
2.4 Liqurish aromas, pour Dark brown, without a head. Taste medium sweet. Sparkling mouthfeel
3.8 Bottle. Allmost black colour with huge creamy light brown fully lasting head. Aroma is roasted malt with notes of chocolate. Sweet flavor. Licorice notes. creamy palate.
4.0 Noire petit col brun fuyant. Aromes forts de café, moka. Corps rond et puissant. Un regal.
3.3 Hazy deep brown color, beige head. Chocolate and coffee nose, roasted malt, caramel, hint of liquorice. Sweet and fruity taste, bitter chocolate, milk chocolate, rich liquorice in the finish. Slightly bitter end. Medium body and carbonation, creamy mouthfeel.
2.9 Nice looks, a good taste with a balanced licorice taste. I didn't care to much for the smell...
3.6 Flaske(Dank an Jonas!): Deep brownish-amber coloured with a mid-sized tanned head, milk chocolate, cacao, dried fruits and toasted malt in the bitter-sweet nose; moderate bitter-sweet flavour, medium bodied, pretty soft; lingering sweet-bitter finish, same flavours as in the nose with more distinctive traces of liquirice. Really good…
3.8 Bottle... Mostly clear dark-brown pour that sits black in my glass with a mid-sized, tight, mushroom-colored head. Never fully dissipates. The aroma is a bit too elusive - milk chocolate and caramel, but no licorice to be found here. Medium-bodied with a super-creamy mouthfeel and lazy carbonation. The flavor is everything the aroma is not. Big, bold, intense licorice and deep roastiness. The finish is merely a slow-fade of black licorice. Huge licorice here and I love it. Bottle courtesy of Plovmand!
3.6 Draught at Bishops Arms, Skövde. Black beer with a nice beige head. Vanilla and licorice aroma, creamy, milk chocolate, raisins, caramel, raisins, figs, cocoa, some hazelnuts. Malty hazelnut flavor, creamy, licorice, soot, vanilla, raisins, figs, caramel notes. Quite sweet but quite nice.
3.5 Bottle @ home. Pours black with a small head. Taste is chocolate and a bit boozy.
Men mjölksockret stör lite.
3.5 Dark brown but not opague. Decent head retention. Nice aromas of roasted and sweeter malts as well as some coffee and licorice. Taste follows with sweeter middle then some subtle licorice and roasted malt bitterness on finish. Very balanced and nice complexity for a low alcohol stout.
3.5 Deep brown body with a light-brown, very long-lived head that leaves some lacing. The aroma is strong, but still it feels gentle and well balanced with the liquorice well hidden among the roasted notes, coffee, dark caramel and chocolate. Also hints of yeast. There is very little bitterness in the finish, and the moderate sweetness makes the beer feel a bit too sweet. The flavours are initially dominated by roasted notes, coffee, caramel, some chocolate and sweet fruits and berries. The liquorice starts to build up mid palate and increases in the the finish. The aftertaste is long with even more liquorice and espresso crema. On the palate it feels a bit to thin for such a sweet taste and with all the sweet fruits, berries and liquorice, this one could certainly need more bitterness. Even so, this is a good one. [50 cl bottle, enjoyed 4 months before BB date, from Kastanielys, Sjællands Odde, Denmark]
Skummet forsvant fort.
2.9 Bottle. Muddled black, low brown head. Coffeeground roast and liquorice aroma. Salty roast coffee, chocolate and salmiac - gets nice and liquoricy as it warms up. Medium light salty body, slightly sticky dry. Black liquorice and chocolate aftertaste. Interesting.
3.0 Draught, 6.0%. Weak liquorice aroma. Muddy dark brown colour. Small light brown head. The flavour has a mild liquorice flavour with a hint of salt. Late liquorice aftertaste.
3.5 bottle at Jans ... and with this beer i become the King of the Britons .... deep black ... thin tan head ... sodt dark roast ... soft licorice nose ... dark chewy toffee malt ... long long long icorice roast ... sweet roast ... soft licorice ... maybe heavy a little heavy on the liquorice
3.6 Very dark brown, dark brown creamy head. Aroma is roasted malt and liquorice.
