Sweetwater Exodus Porter

Sweetwater Exodus Porter

This is a classic American Porter, poured on tap it has a good head that stays and leaves a nice lace. It is defined by its chocolate malt, medium body, and smooth mouthfeel. Balanced by the Golding and Columbus hops on the finish is a hint of bitterness.
Don’t be afraid of the dark.

4.0 Bottle thanks to SSSteve. This one evidently ages well. Nose is tootsie roll, bready, toffee, light toasty chocolate. Flavor is similar with a light sweet and floral hop finish. Really nice and the best beer I’ve had from sweet water.
3.4 Bottle shared thanks to iphonephan. Pours dark brown with a small tan head. Aroma of malt, a little dark fruit, caramel. Flavour is moderate sweet and bitter. Medium bodied with light carbonation.
3.4 Bottle. Pours a dark brown with thin head that fades rapidly. Decent lacing. Aroma of chocolates and coffee. Taste of dark chocolate and black coffee.
3.5 Bottle Courtesy of Doodler (thanks Scott) poured a clear dark reddish brown with a lingering ring of tan foam. Aromas of dark chocolate, roasted maltr and light earthiness. Palate was medium bodied and smooth. Flavors of roasted malt, dark chocolate and light earthiness with a smooth lingering roasty finish.
3.5 pours just a slight lighter than pitch black with a small amount of head. the aroma is roasted barley, chocolate. the flavor is roasted barley, chcolate at the end and some mild hop flavors. The palate is smooth throughout and not much bitterness.
3.8 Actually a pretty limp looking porter, very little head, minimal lacing - mahogany pour. A hefty dose of chocolate, molasses, toasted malts and coffee. Some earthiness and tobacco - aromas last a while. medium bodied w/ low carb a rounded mouthfeel. The sweetness of roasted malts comes through with plenty of chocolate. This is well-balanced with coffee bitterness and spice hop on the finish. I seek out a few of these each winter.
3.4 12 ounce bottle pours a blackish color with aromas of chocolate, light roast, some earth and a touch of hops. Flavors are the same, decent porter overall.
4.6 Chocolate aroma. Creamy head. Dark mahogony color. Chocolate licorice and roasty flavor. Medium body. Lasting flavor with a clean finish.
3.4 black color, aroma of coffee, roasted malts, same flavors, slightly nutty, pine hops, not bad
3.4 Fresh aroma of chocolate yummy. Dark brownnmedium sweetness, full body, creamy, long finish,
3.5 From a 12 oz bottle shared at home. Pours a dark cola brown with a tan head. Mild toasted malt aroma. Flavors of chocolate and roasted nuts. Medium mouthfeel with ample carbonation. Slight hop finish.
3.9 Pours nearly black with a short, light brown head. Aroma is soft chocolate, malt. Taste is chocolate malt with a slight nut/coffee bitter. A hint of hops. Creamy, tingly. A nice one.
3.9 Mmmm. This beer is a chocolate malty goodness! It pours black and has a robust chocolate/roasty aroma. The label is dead on as it has a medium body with a very light and creamy mouthfeel. There is a nice hop bitterness in the finish which really makes this beer! A flavor explosion that goes down quite easily! Very well done!
4.2 Dark dark brown with tan head. Aroma is sweet roast coffee. Taste is malty, roast coffee and dark chocolate. Very good
3.0 Bottle. Roasty vegetal malt aroma, maybe a little nutty. Chestnut with a moderate tan head. Sweet roasty malt - not really chocolate, coffee or caramel - it’s malty, but nondescript. Light roasty bitter finish. Medium body and carbonation.
3.8 Bottle - pours black with a medium cola head (and I was really pouring it recklessly to invoke it a little). Nice black coffee aroma and taste (this was a huge plus considering that I don’t like coffee in general). Medium body and a smooth mouthfeel. I’m looking forward to a few more of these.
3.8 Bottle. Chocolate malt aroma. Dark brown with small head. Mildly sweet chocolate and barley malt flavor with mildly bitter herbal hops finish. Very nice porter.
4.1 laces very nice. a chocolate malt, medium body, and smooth mouthfeel. Unbelievable !!!!!!
3.5 On tap at the Terminal A Sweetwater pub where the tap poured out (ice firkin cold in a frozen tumbler) with a deep dark body that has ruby red hues and supports a tan head of foam. The aroma offers up dark roasted malts, a bit of burnt malts and a touch of sugary maltiness. The taste is similar with sweet malts, black licorice, dark roasted malts and a bit of burnt malts. I think I’m getting some Mt Hood sort of black spicy licorice going on in there too. Decent robust like porter.
3.0 Very malty and coffee flavored porter. Just average in my opinion. The other beers out I this brewery are definitely better
3.8 Bottle at home in CT. Pours clear, red-brown with a fine, beige cream head. Lots of roasty earth in the aroma, some cocoa. Medium sweet flavor with rich, chocolatey roasted malts, some bitter cocoa, earthy bitterness, mellow ash. Light to medium bodied with fine carbonation. Moderately sweet finish, balanced and fairly rich roasted malts. Great porter. Quite robust with lots of flavor packed in.
3.8 Pours a soda color. I said rootbeer, others have described it as Coke. Think tan head fades to half a finger, then sticks around. Laces a little on the glass. It smells fresh. The hops are Centennial and Golding, which describe as floral. I smell a grassy freshness, which is welcomed. The nose is light in contrast to the appearance. Taste is not at all what I expected. I thought it would be a little more bitter. It is very well balanced. Light carbonation has a great, smooth mouthfeel. The subtle bitterness lingers for a bit, but it is not a negative aftertaste at all. Letting a little bit float around my mouth the chocolate becomes more apparent. Just a hint of it, and a hint of coffee type roastedness. All in all a very nice, easy drinking Porter.
3.4 Bottle and Draught. Nice simple porter with great roasted malt flavor. Nice weekday beer.
4.1 Loved this porter. Bottle. Notes of coffee, cocoa, molasses and some dark fruits. Nice malt/hop balance.
3.6 12oz bottle from the Sweet Water Tackle Box. Pours an opaque brown color with an off-tan head. Nose is some light roast with big cocoa and baker’s chocolate followed by a mild bitterness. Flavor follows with cocoa, slight roast, and mild chocolate in the finish. Light to medium in body and a nice baseline porter overall.
3.2 Pretty standard for the style. Pours dark and has some roast qualities. A very drinkable beer.
3.7 Bottle. Pours dark with ruby cast. Short, dense tan head. Aroma is slightly hoppy with strong roasted malt notes, coffee and chocolate. Taste is semi-sweet chocolate, roasted malt, coffee and burnt caramel. Body is light-medium and creamy with a soft, bubbly carbonation. Finishes with creamed coffee, and battery-on-the-tongue tanginess. Some surprising umami there too. Tasty porter. Am wondering about that finish though. Not sure if I like it, but it is interesting.
3.2 Pours jet black with a thin white head. Aroma of chocolate, roast and some lactic notes. Taste is roasty, bittersweet chocolate and alcohol. Medium body, slightly hot.
2.6 Ok, my first sweet water, from a bottle. You know, there certainly is a difference between porter and stout. In some examples you can really tell the difference and in others you cannot. Pretty clean smell of mildly volatile roasted beer. Very dark. At first I think the alky level is too strong but after a few minutes it tend to mellow a bit. Goodly amount of the roasted porter thing in this brew. Yes not bad with itmildly sizzling co2. Leaves some bitterness there residing on the back of the tongue after each big swig. Near bitter personality builds inthe back ofthe throat towards the finish.
3.8 Bottle. Good porter. Dark brown color. Not much head. Nice coffee aroma. Taste is burnt toast, mocha, roasted grains.
