Sweetwater Road Trip

Sweetwater Road Trip

Road trips are balls-out adventures loaded with unexpected twists, just like when this beer hit black ice and got spun!. It started out as an IPA recipe, but halfway down the road it blew a tire and a Pilsner yeast was pitched as a spare; an IPP yo! The fiery Pilsner backbone adds a nitrous-like boost to the van load of hops that would make any German pucker up when those hop afterburners singe their lederhosen!

Brewed with a Lager yeast at Ale temps
using Sterling hops and Pilsner Malt to
make this a crisp and hoppy twisted up
seasonal treat.

2.1 Appearance: pours with a small white head that fades quickly, the beer is a hazy yellow color Aroma: very lightly toasted grain, corn, faint Taste: corn syrup, faint hops in there, lemon Palate: lively carbonation, light mouthfeel, corn and hop aftertaste Overall: this just reminds me of industrial lager too much, not my choice but still better than a real industrial lager
4.0 Bottle. Clear gold in color with a thick white head. Aroma of crisp noble hop and some malt. Malty sweetness up front, giving way to a bitter noble finish. Nice hoppy pils that you can drink all day.
2.8 Hazy yellow, minimally effervescent. Decent lace laying. Bitter with a sharp tart bite. Some sweetness comes through the bitterness and finishes watery. Best by date: 6/8/15 Consumed on 3/30/15. $1.79/12 oz bottle at Total Wine and More Boca Raton Florida.
2.6 Out of balance brew with a harsh tart bitterness that does not have a body to match. Quite drinkable but a big step down from the previous version.
3.0 bottle @ Party Town / Florence KY --- Clear light amber, solid white head, dots of lace. Taste is sweet malt that turns more bitter on the swallow, then allows a little bit of the malt to return at the back end. Drinkable, but pretty much like nearly every standard issue IPA.
2.9 just an average lager beer with a hoppy bitter finish. smells malty and tastes the same. very tough to drink and not refreshing. got a bottle from binnys in melrose park. pours yellow witha white head. had at home.
3.1 355ml bottle. Though it was a session lager when handed to me. Golden pour, reminiscent of a hoppy aal. Definitely crushable but not interesting.
3.4 [ Bottle ][ 12oz ][ Safeway ][ $1.15 ][ Mason Jar ][ 3.19.15 ] >> Clear light golden pour, thick soapy head, good retention. Nose is lemongrass, fresh linen, mild soap. Taste is grassy, bitter, slightly dusty, good body, fairly dry, balancing sugar, fluffy white bread. Better than expected. For some reason I thought this was a witbier originally- ended up being nicely surprised.
3.2 Appealing light orange almost wheat beer color with light fruit & spice on the nose. Bitter all the way through.
3.3 Pours a clear gold. Lemon, honey, citrus on the nose. Herbs and spices, sweet citrus. Nice summer ale.
3.1 Bottle. Aroma and taste have plenty of Pilsner character. A touch of spice and dryness. Body is a bit heavier though. Nice crisp carbonation. Ok, but don’t really care for the style.
3.4 Light golden orange color with white head. This has a light aroma with pale malt and slight hops. Simple and easy beer to drink.
2.4 Golden orange color with hardly any head. Smells of malt, spice and citrus. Taste is spicy hops and citrus, with a lingering after taste of of a crisp spice. I am not as impressed with this as I thought I would be. Still better than Heineken, but not something I would put on my list of good brews
2.9 Hazy orange with a white head. Not much on the aroma, a little grain and slightly yeasty funky smell. Palate has some more of a phenolic yeast note along with cereal grain and a slight citrus flavor.
3.3 12oz bottle pours a clear golden yellow color with white head. aroma malty touch of spice and hops. the flavor a little different than what I expected it to be. medium malt backbone. with that pils flavor in the middle and then on the end flavorful hoppiness almost finished dry. not sure what you want to call this but its not bad..has more pils flavor than anything else.
3.2 12 ounce bottle Thanks to a generous Florida trader for a chance to reacquaint myself with a Southern gem. This light summer drinker did not stand out much but it still proves that all golden / blond ales can be more than a method for distributing alcohol. Aroma / Appearance - A cloudy mandarin orange base shimmers with active carbonation under a sheltered white head. Lemon crisp, wheat, and dry notes with a dash of yeast add character that makes it a bit unique. Ripening bananas feel just a bit out of place however. Flavor / Palate - Lemon, yeast, and dry notes are the first impression from a fluid refreshing mouthfeel that washes across the tongue. The bitter transition tastes a bit like oaky champagne before morphing into a wheaty finish that sits in the throat. A decent wit beer has only one troublesome aspect - the spiciness feels a bit too amped up compared to other flavors. Even so it is worth trying once.
2.8 Bottle, aroma is light pale malts and noble hop. Taste is pale malt, bitter pine and dry finish, slightly harsh
4.1 Pours lightly hazy golden orange with a large white head. Smells grainy, earthy, hints of bitterness. Taste is bitter, grainy, earthy, hints of subtle fruit. Light-bodied with a smooth texture and prickly mouth-carbonation, Sweetwater Road Trip finishes with a kiss of sweetness.
3.6 12oz bottle, from Homer321. Best by 7/01/14. Mostly hazy golden orange color. Good off-white head with good retention. Leaves nice, thicker lace. Medium body. Smooth, lighter, kind of crisp carbonation. More dry finish. Nice light peppery pilsner malt type aromas. Some light citrus, moderate breadiness. Good moderate bitter, light sweet taste. Tasty, satisfying complex and flavorful golden ale. Great spicy herbal hop on it.
2.1 Pour hazy yellow. Malty and grassy aroma. Musky taste with low carbonation. Meh.
3.0 Tap at the Sweetwater Draft House. Pours a transparent golden with a thick layer of cream colored head. Aroma of malts and a slight hint of hops. Taste is similar but a bit smoother
2.4 Meh. Out of bottle. Not much head or lace on this beer. Slight hop flavor is the only thing enjoy about this beer. Good for a hot day but there are better beers out there.
3.0 Draft. Nose is fruity with some grassy, almost catty hop character. Pours a slightly hazy light orange color with medium white head. Taste is very bitter initially with a strong grassy flavor. Some fruitiness like light lemons as well. Overall pretty good but nothing spectacular.
3.0 Bottle. Tastes malty, musky, dry, with strong hop bitterness. Light body and low/medium carbonation. Smells like musky, malty, grains.
3.1 Bottle. Pours hazy yellow gold with white head. Aroma is bready malts, banana, pear, light floral and grassy notes, and yeasty notes. Flavor is dry and malty with medium bitterness, and light citrus. Light/medium body and carbonation.
3.1 Bottle. Gold pour with a medium, frothy white head. Aroma is grassy and floral with toasted malt, light bready notes and citrus zest. Taste is zesty citrus, toasted malt, grains, grassy notes, sourdough bread and floral hops. Body is light-medium with a soft bubbly carbonation. Ends with more toasted malt, lemony notes, floral hops, bready malts, grains and grass.
3.6 Poured up on tap at the SweetWater Draft House ATL Airport - Terminal A with a clear gold body that supports a white head of foam. The mild (aroma killing tumbler glassware) aroma offers up grassy to spicy hops as well as floral hops and a dash of lime. The taste is nice and hoppy up front with spicy and grassy hop bitterness that is thinly ringed with a mild floral hoppiness and some pilsner like malty sweetness. The hops are still the front runner right into the finish which is ok by me. Nice hop forward brew.
3.3 12 oz bottle. Pours a hazy golden with a bright white head that leaves plenty of lacing. Aroma of earthy hops, pine, orange, wheat and malts. Rather dank. Taste is dank citrus, orange peel, pine, malt, and wheat. Long dry and slightly bitter finish of earthy hops, pine, citrus and malts. Light body, sticky texture, average carbonation. A pilsner IPA? Definitely different and pretty damn good.
3.5 On tap at the Atlanta airport taphouse, terminal A. It pours a clear, golden body under small, dense, white head. There’s some maltyness on the nose, with resiny, lightly peppery, grassy and floral hops doing most of the work. It’s dry and full-bodied, with a tad too much carbonation. Some grainy pale malts in the flavor, notes of resins, grass and flowers and a suitable bitterness. Lasting bitter finish with a faint metallic hint. Wow, this was a nice one. I ordered the brown, but the waitress mixed up the orders and I got this instead. Didn’t think it could beany good after two different IPAs, but it was. 140511
2.2 An unpleasant aroma almost fishy, with a hint of something burnt. Cloudy straw colour with a light roasted grain taste. A dry chalky palate.
