3.5 Bottle shared. Pours very dark brown with a small tan head. Aroma of toffee, light vanilla, caramel, light roast and milk chocolate. Flavour is over moderate sweet and light moderate bitter. Medium bodied with soft carbonation.
3.2 33cl bottle courtesy of and shared with Kermis. Thin creamy off white head. Clear black pour. A decent sweet stout
3.9 330ml bottle from The Wine Seller, Wolverhampton. Pours black with good tan head. Aroma is lactose and roast. Taste brings forth nice coffee roast with some lactose smoothing the edges off the bitterness. Some milk chocolate & roasted malts but some unfortunate over-carbonated fuzziness that diverts your attention. Still.. an enjoyable beer.
3.6 At Villagio Della Birra 2015. Clear very dark brown color, small teal head. Sweet, roasted, chocolate, oats scent. Sweet, mild, raisin taste. Raisin aftertaste. Medium low mouthfeel, low bitterness.
2.7 I swear my label was different. Dark pour. Not black, just dark. Small tan head. Little lacing. Big nose of sugar. Molasses. Taste is a uninspiring version of the nose.
3.9 Bottle from BierKoning. Tar black with dark brown foam. Tangy nose. Sweet with coffee taste, charamel and quite malty. Licorice/drop ending. Quite nice.
3.0 Pours a cloudy dark brown with tan head. Sweetness, chocolate, bread, and biscuit on the nose; follows onto the palate. Finishes with a bready choclatey sweetness.
3.7 Pours a very dark color with a huge head. Aroma is chocolate, bread, malt, stone fruit, cacao bean bitter, roasty, nutty. Taste is chocolate, coffee, bread, raisins, cacao beans, roasty, butty, overall just huge malts. Overall a fantastic sweet stout, the style is sweet by nature so with that in mind this is awesome.
3.1 Dark color with a brown head. Thin bubbles that stick to the glass. Candy sugar aroma. Roasted taste. A bit watery. A tad light for a stout.
2.8 Gusher but a aroma of roasty, chocolate, with a hint of fruity ester. Pours a gorgeous thick head with a boatload of lacing, color appears as a sort of dark dark black red. Taste is very malt forward - roasty and toasty with perhaps a hint of belgian yeast
3.2 Aroma of roasted malts, sweet malts, chocolate, some coffee. Flavour is roasty and sweet, with a light bitter finish. A bit on the thin side. Nice and easily drinkable Stout.
3.3 Medium-strength stout (something we are not used to anymore in this country after all those strong ones micro breweries make nowadays). Colour as good as black, beige head. Coffee, toasted bread, bitter chocolate, sweetish onset of dark fruits and chocolate but drying in the course of the palate and ending in a strong roasted bitterness making it closer to an Irish-style dry stout than an English-style sweet stout.
3.2 Pours a dark beer with a nice beige head. Smells fruity, sweet and a little bit malty. Has a really fresh aroma for a stout. Tastes like roasted malts but very balanced. Palate is lightly roasted malts. Very accessible and balanced stout.
3.7 Dark brown pour, beige head. Simple and straight forward milk stout. Creamy, very light roasted notes, lactose sugar, cocoa powder. Easy drinking.
CONCLUSION : drôle de bête que cette bière !! Elle pourrait rivaliser avec les lambics les plus aigres... Elle est imprécise au maximum, instable, et n’offre aucune finale.... Je comprends qu’elle donne le blues !!!
3.8 Bottle: Thanks Douberd: Served in a Chouffe glass: Bigger beige foamy head on top of a dark brown to black colored beer. Aromas of yeast, nuts, malt roast/toast, coffee, berries, some bay leaf, some roast and yoghurt with wood roast. Flavours of roast, coffee, bitters, some bay leaf, wood roast, some hints of raisin and berries, very light smokey and some coal. Aftertaste is a mix of bitters, malts, roast, wood roast and some coffee. Medium to fuller carbo, creamy mouthfeel, medium bodied and a creamy texture. Decent stout.
3.6 330 ml bottle at home, into a snifter, ABV 5.5% Very dark brown colour on the body, huge tan head, thick, with excellent retention, leaving light lacing on the glass after it has collapsed. Aroma is sweet, toasted malts, light olive pit at least at the beginning, oats, light chocolate. Taste of roasted malts, light bitter chocolate, oats, coffee that brings a moderate bitterness. Medium body, good carbonation. Very good, highly drinkable.
2.9 Pours dark brown with huge tan head. Smell of dark roasted malts and some chocolate. Taste follows up. Thin to medium mouthfeel with high carbonation. Taste improves letting it adjust to room temperature. Doesn?t feel like a stout eventhough it contains everything a stout needs. Might be the lacking of body and the high carbo. Just okay.
3.5 Bottle - Very Dark Brown (almost Black) in colour. Malty; roasted/burnt malts, brown sugar, caramel, light chocolate and coffee. Spicy, peppery. Fruity; dark fruits. Hoppy; some hop bitterness. Sweetish roast malty throughout, leading to a dry bitter finish. Very tasty considering low ABV. Decent.
3.5 Typical Belgian stout. Has the roastedness, but also a sweet yeasty taste. Nice.
3.5 Rated on 3-07-2010 (Flip-top bottle) When poured, this beer has a large very fizzy tan head that mostly diminishes, opaque dark brown body with a red tint, and no lacing. The aroma is roasted malt, chocolate and coffee. The taste mimics the aromas plus light coffee bitterness. This beer has a short dry finish. The palate is smooth, watery and thin. This beer is light-medium bodied and borders on being more on the light side. Overall, this beer is quaffable, almost too quaffable, due to the thin texture. It is worth trying nonetheless.
3.4 33CL bottle at home, Dark black beer with a medium beige head, aroma of malts, sweet?, taste is malts, sweet, dry, light bitter. Actually a good beer in my opinion.
2.6 33 cl. bottle sampled thx! to Kraddel. No BBF. Very dark brown with a pretty big, descending tanned head. Nose is meaty with soy sauce (pretty odd for a beer of this ABV), lightly milky, lots of liquorish, roasted & charred malts, the milky notes don’t mix well with the rest with is not too stellar either. Taste is soy sauce upfront, burned coffee grounds, overripe fruits, liquorish, finishes like spoiled milk (in a way that makes me think of an infection) with burned grounds. Touch ligher, coffee grounds, grainy body. This one didn’t feel all that all-right to me.
3.6 pours black, grey head smell is oats and coffee high carbo taste is coffee, bitter ( also from the hops, no aroma though) dark malts, coffee and bitterness in the back . as usual , in this style of beer, i prefer way thicker and way more taste . but its doable , at least
3.4 Pours a dark brown beer with a good tan head. Smells chocolate, fruity and coffee. Tastes roasty, chocolate and coffee. Way too much carbo, thin body and a watery texture. The carbo destroys this beer.
3.0 Ruikt biet echt lekker.. Maar ben wel de enige die dat vind. Maar is ook niet echt mijn smaak..
3.6 750 ml. bottle. Pours almost black with a nice tan head. Aroma of malt, chocolate, and dark fruit. Taste is roasted malt, chocolate, yeast, dark fruit, and earth. A bit thin. Nice.
3.5 Bottle - 750mL crowned. Not sure if this is the same beer or if the brewery has made a change and not updated it site, but my bottle of Hofblues shows 8% ABV and has "Belgian Imperial Stout" at the bottom of the label. Guessing this may be a US version??? Black pour with a tall, dense, foamy brown head. Aroma is roasted malt and slightly lactic with hints of yogurt and dark chocolate. Light notes of dark fruit and coffee as well. Taste is also somewhat lactic with roasted malt, dark fruit, chocolate milk notes, light earthiness and faint coffee. Body is medium with soft, creamy carbonation and a touch of tartness and dryness during the finish. Ends with more roasted malt, toasted grains, chocolate milk, soft notes of dark fruit, coffee and burnt caramel.
3.5 Draft at Great British Beer Festival 2013. Poured a viscous black with a large, dense tan head. Earthy aroma of ash and black cherries. Flavours of dark chocolate and hazlenut with some sweet cake. Leaves with burnt toast and roasted malt.
