't IJ Speciale Vlo

't IJ Speciale Vlo

A prize-winning beer that we brew specially for De Bierkoning. The fruity, bitter hops and lightly roasted malt complement each other perfectly in this light brown beer. These flavours are accentuated with a little coriander to produce a full aroma of flowers, citrus and a hint of caramel. An irresistible beer that was crowned in the Brussels Beer Challenge with a silver medal in the Herb & Spice category.

Vlo stands for Vodden, Lompen en Ongeregeld (translates a bit as rags, bags and bums).

Lekker bier!
3.6 330ml Bottle - Amber with a slight haze. Peach, spice and apricot in the aroma. Fruity and moderately hoppy taste with notes of lemon, caramel, peach and dried apricot.

3.8 Specialty ale made for De Bierkoning in Amsterdam. Deep amber colour, powerful aroma of sweet spices and perfumes, which are also present in the taste, but well-balanced by a powerful, herbal hop bitter finish. Very nice.
3.9 Bottle 330ml at home, poured into a small tulip glass, ABV 7% Very dark orange to light amber in colour, tall and thick off-white head on top. Good acticity in the glass, visible although the beer is quite hazy and somewhat murky. The head has very good retention, taking ages to collapse entirely, and it leaves heavy lacing after it finally did. Aroma of light caramel, grains, fruity notes with apricot being dominant, some yeast. Taste also of grains, yeast, quite bitter straight away with the bitterness beig a long lasting one, again fruity notes of peaches and apricots. Medium body, good lively carbonation. Very dry on the palate. Overall a great beer, I was expecting a generic belgian style blond seeing it’s brewed for a beer shop but I was wrong, this can stand everywhere by itself.
4.1 33cl bottle @ home from De Bierkoning, Amsterdam. Hazy copper orange color, big off-white fully lasting excellent lacing head. Aroma caramel, banana, apple pie, grapefruit, quite hoppy, orange peel, floral, light licorice, hint of honey. Taste light sweetness, medium to heavy medicine bitterness, slightly acidic. Full body, sticky texture, soft carbonation, quite long lasting hoppy bitter finish. Quite IPA’ish, refreshing, great beer.

3.6 330ml bottle from Beermoth. Pours slightly hazy yellow. Taste presents bitter, fruity IPA hops with a touch of sourness and some interesting spicy pepper / coriander coming through. Fresh & drinkable but that spiciness isn’t generally my cuppa tea.
3.6 Bottle shared @ home with SuBarbare. Color: hazy blond beer with medium carbonation and big white foam. Smell: malty floral nose with grassy notes and some pineapple. Taste: fruity taste, really nice and drinkable, pineapple and litchi. Aftertaste: good malty and bitterness balance.

3.5 A slightly orange, brownish yellow beer with a big and blond head. The nose is strongly fruitfull and spicy, citrusfruits, black peppers, some sourness of green apples. Taste is fruitfull and strongly spicy as aroma, earthyness, herbs, lether and sour end. Medium bodied, high carbonation, fresh to drink. A unique and sour beer again from t IJ. Good beer.

3.5 33cl fles. Lichtgeel van kleur. Witte schuimkraag. Eerste smaakimpressie : fris, citrus, licht hoppig.
3.5 Bottle from the Bierkoning. Hazy dark amber pour, creamy white head. Aroma is grassy, a touch of something minty, quite herbal, light peppery belgian yeast, quite spicy as well, coriander, smells fresh. Taste is grassy, spicy, very light citrusy flavor, tame maltiness, not very sweet, long lingering spicy finish. Palate is med-full bodied with strong carbonation, med-dry, more refreshing than I was expecting. Good.
