't IJ Zatte

The first beer to come out of our vats, back in 1985, making it the classic beer of Brouwerij ‘t IJ. It is a ‘tripel’, the category reserved for the stronger, blonde beers in Belgian tradition. Zatte more than lives up to expectations in this respect. It is a full-bodied, golden beer with a scent of fresh fruit mingled here and there with a hint of grain. The flavour is slightly sweet, ending with a fine, dry aftertaste. A delicious beer that can be enjoyed in all seasons.

3.8 330ml Bottles from Albert Heijn Supermarket, Maastricht, Netherlands (2021) and De Bierkoning, Paleisstraat 125,1012 RK Amsterdam, Netherlands (2009). Aged for just over one year! Hazy golden coloured with a thin white head of foam. It has a rich, strong fruit and toffee flavour with spicy dried fruit on the warming, slight soapy smooth finish. Good.

2.9 Pours clear golden with a white head. Aroma is heavy on the sweet malts, typical Belgian style yeast, caramel, a bit fruity, spicey. Taste is medium sweet, light bitter. Medium body. Expected more from this.

3.2 In the aroma of malt, toast, a little fruitiness. Amber color, clear beer with good coarse foam. On the palate, the malt is excellent, a little herb, and the aftertaste is slightly bitter and astringent. Medium body, high carbonation.

2.9 Blond bier met voldoende koolzuur. Geur mout, citrus, zuur. Smaak mout, koriander, citrus, water, zurig. Medium wat droog mondgevoel. Nasmaak bitterzoet en zuur.

3.7 APARÊNCIA dourado, turvo. creme branco de alta formação e média duração. AROMA frutado e cítrico, com notas de abacaxi, damasco e laranja. SABOR dulçor moderado e baixo amargor. notas de laranja e coentro. SENSAÇÃO corpo medio e carbonatação media-alta.

3.2 Mildly sweet taste of orange and some coriander. Average tripel, which could have benefited from a more hoppy, bitter aftertaste as per the more traditional triples like Chimay white, to give it another dimension.

3.5 Finally found time to write down. I know this bear for 25 year now. Back then I did buy the beer in a liquor stoor on Hoog katereine and for many years, this bear was the only Tripel available on Schiphol/ Nowadays the beer is no longer satand-alone but because of that now widely available. I do not like all Struis beers but this one is OK. The beer looks like an ordinary pilsener but as soon as you smell, you get the orange and coriander tones Typical for a belgian tripel. a s=quite sweet strong beer with orange peel and spices/ Nice!

3.6 33 cl fles. Helder goudblond bier met witte schuimkraag. Geur: Gist, granen, licht kruidig. Smaak: licht moutzoet, licht fruitig, ietwat gistkarakter, ietwat kruidig. Medium koolzuurprikkel. Afdronk: wat droog.

3.1 Clear yellow color with a modest head. Not much smell, some fruits and vanilla. Doesn't strike me as a real Tripel though. The taste is similar. Full body, modest sweetness, modest bitterness in the aftertaste. Average.

3.0 Goudgeel bier met vlakke witte schuimkraag. Qua geur is niet veel waar te nemen. Qua smaak fruitig en zoetig in aanzet. Die overgaat in een lichte bitterheid.

3.0 Eerder gedronken op fles, maar nog niet op RB.

3.5 Een Nederlandse klassieker die dit jaar 35 wordt. Mooi in balans, fris-zurig, maar haalt het niet bij zijn Belgisch voorouders. Mooi helder goudkleurig bier met een bescheiden witte schuimkraag die wegzakt maar blijvend gevoed wordt door het koolzuur. Geuren zijn niet heel prominent aanwezig. Wat granige geur en licht zoet fruit. Smaak is mooi in balans, niet heel zoet of heel zuur te noemen

3.0 Helder goudgeel bier met beperkte witte schuimkraag. Redelijk vlak van smaak met licht bittere afdronk

3.4 Really? I never rated this oldie from IJ? Clear golden pour with generous white head, OK retention. Aroma is not special; first time quite malty, second time very little aroma, third time also bit spicy. Taste is fine, attractive and easy, but also not special, on the sweet side and moderate bitter, mild spicy. Moderate carbo. Actually a very regular tripel, nothing wrong with it, bit oldie indeed ;-) (Combined rates on 20/01/20, 16/03/21 and 28/04/21)

2.5 On tap at ‘t IJ, pours a hazy golden with a small white head. Aroma is full of esters, candied sugar, bubblegum, and alcohol. Flavour is just chaotic, with bubblegum, cotton candy, and chaotic fruity esters. This isn’t good at all.

3.5 Bottle at an Amsterdam cafe. Clear pale golden amber. Frothy white head. Belgian yeast, citrus and grain aroma. Fruity, yeasty and lightly sweet. Medium bodied.

3.9 Robe blonde limpide, mousse blanche moyenne disparaissant lentement. Nez d'esthers fruités : raisin, fruits rouges, levures, céréales. Bouche également fruitée : raisin, banane, fraise, la base maltée est bien présente avec de légères notes de caramel, la levure est decelable. Corps moyen, carbo moyenne, longueur moyenne. Belle triple, très originale, j'aimerai bien connaître la souche de levure qui donne ce résultat très agréable !

3.4 Butelka do końca 2019. W aromacie trochę siana i brzoskwinii. W smaku podobnie trochę słodkawo, z zaznaczoną wyraźnie ziołową goryczką. OK ale bez szału.

3.5 Piwo jasno złote ze znikomą pianą.Idealnie klarowne. Po otwarciu butelki uniósł się przyjemny biszkoptowy aromat. Ze szkła czuć więcej belgii. Spora kwiatowość trroche owoców idących w brzoskwinie. Delikatna ziołowość. Delikatna słodowa nuta też jest obecna. W smaku słodkawo-kwaskowe. Znowu esytry w typie brzoskwinie i delikatne pieprzne fenole, ale jest ich stosunkowo mała w porownaniu z innymi tripplami. Piwo musujące, alkohol dobrze ukryty.
