3.4Purchased at Discount Liquors in Milwaukee, WI; enjoyed on a Tuesday night prior to getting a haircut. I’ve never tried a Rogenboog Ale and thought it had to be a fictitious name, so I had to try it! Appearance is a very cloudy red/brown raisin / mud water looking brew with a rich off-white head that is rather prominent. I would say it looks fantastic, one of the more interesting looking beers I’ve seen. Aroma is a very present raisin/plum/slight peach with a unique Belgian yeast that’s in the back end of the nose. Taste is super powerful, and man...raisiny!!! This is the most raisin filled beer I’ve ever had for sure, my eyes opened right up upon first sip. The ABV is less than others I’ve had but it just tastes very potent. This one may be a little too wildly fermented for my tastes. Very happy that I tried it though, and hell if someone had a bottle of it again I think I’d enjoy it again. Oh, also, it is pretty carbonated and I now have a raisin burp which I didn’t think was possible. Overall enjoyable....................................OK, the glass is now half way gone and it’s gotten to the point of not being able to drink it. The flavor is just powerful and it feels like the raisin flavor has gotten heavier. My rating is going down as a result.
3.42011 - 05 - 08 330ml bottle.hazy, medium brown colour. almost no head. taste is trong, sweet, herbale, nice...
3.911.2 oz bottle, the Belgian Kvass? Not with this abv!
It pours into my Duvel glass a thick dark brown with a foamy tan head that billows big time. It has large bubbles and leaves gobs of lacing.
The smell is ultra raisiny, smells like Kvass. It has a thick raisinbread aroma, some spices, fruitiness, sweetness, and a nice perfumey alcoholic whiff.
The flavor is thick and rich, tons of raisin in there, along with thick caramel and spices. It is malty and fruity up the wazoo.
This is an interesting one, definitely worth a try.

4.1Wow - the beer pours dark, murky brown, with tons of sediment. The aroma is apples with a bit of honey and the Belgian yeast. The flavor starts out a bit boozy and sweet, very potent, with the base of the Belgian Strong yeast dominating over the sweetness of the raisins.
3.0This was an amazing beer the first time I had it from a 330cl bottle. It poured a medium golden brown with a good amount of even haze and a nice creamy, fresh smelling head. Taste was surprisingly tart, but rounded out sweet and malty with just enough hops to even everything out.
But the second, third, and fourth times I tried it... the results were inconsistent. Two bottles had a musty smell, the last smelled fine, but the balance of the beer was just off.... inconsistency ruined this beer for me.
3.733cl bottle. Poured a murky, cider toned brown with a two finger tan head that slowly fades to a ring. Smell is of candi sugar, raisins, brown sugar, caramel, freshly baked bread, and light apples. Taste is smooth with a malt character of caramel, toffee, chocolate, light coffee and toasted flavors. Background has a thin underlying fruitiness. Honey flavors give the sweetness depth, with light raisin flavors backing up the malts. Hop bitterness is subdued, but present. Finish is malty and a bit dry. Alcohol becomes noticeable as the beer warms. A big melange of flavor.
3.8Darker shade of brown, with some redness. Quite well formed head. Excellent smell which reminds about tropical fruits that are getting old. First sip somewhat sour and metallic, but taste will smooth quickly and is grassy, mouldy and basement type. Interesting, very interesting.
3.201/01/2011 - 33cl bottle @ home (2011-1)
Note: According to my new year’s resolution I’ll be drinking at least one new beer every day. Let’s see how long I can keep it going! ;-)
Dark red to brown beer, little cloudy. Light beige thick stable head, adhesive. Aroma: red fruits and berries, yeast, dusty, some spices. MF: ok carbon, medium body. Taste: very fruity, caramel and toasted malts. Aftertast: pretty dry, caramel, mocha, fruity, hops, herbs.
1.733cl bottle. Pours a cloudy amber, loose tan foam. Nose of raisin bread, pâtisserie, light leather, slight oak and some cellar mustiness. More musty in mid-sip, a sort of moldy-bread middle ground which is, in fact, very hard to like. Later in the mouth, there is a smokiness that resembles... yes, it’s like mud. Why does this beer make me want to punch it in the face? This is not cool: beers are NOT supposed to taste like dirt. The finish is dry and somewhat more clean, but you know, it doesn’t really invite another sip. Yikes.
3.012/1/10. Bottle courtesy mlunger12. Fruity aroma with Belgian yeast all over the place. Sweet apple flavor with spices, caramel, and yeast... almost like a caramel apple HUGE carbonation... HUGE! Explodes foam down your throat (that’s what she said).
2.8Holy Carbonation, wow, bitter and hard to the mouth, almost too much. I’m not sure how the bottle didn’t break. Getting beyond that, a bit of apple, some raisons, but quite watery. Nothing too special.
3.511.2oz bottle from Ledgers. I carefully released the pressure with my Kobalt Tools bottle opener courtesy of Ratman and managed not to lose any beer. Nose of darly caramelized candi sugar, sweet golden raisins, and yeast. Hazy brown with a huge beige head. Flavor is yeast, a hint of bitterness, carmelly sweetness, and alcohol warmth.
3.0Bottle @ home. Big gusher. Aroma is malty old beer with liquorice, fruit and a light touch of infection.
Flavour is very sweet and malt, faint touch of raisin. Some fruit, yeast and spices.
Not bad, just boring.
2.1Evidentemente con qualche grosso problema, sapeva di puré di piselli. Peccato.
4.0330 ml bottle a dark brown colored beer with a white head aroma caramel dried fruits liqueur and some malts taste caramel spices dried fruits bitter hops and some liqueur hints
2.8Big time gusher! - I at least managed to get half the bottle into my glass. After all the foam subsided this is a murky brown brew with frothy tan head. Aroma is strong, slightly musty. Flavor is complex as a good Belgian should be, a bit nutty and a bit fruity. Dark plum. Not quite as well rounded as others I have had though.
3.433cl bottle. Dark amber with a white head. Aroma of sweet raisins. Taste is sweet with again raisings. Average brew.
3.6Had I known in advance that it was brewed with honey and raisins, I may have passed it up. I’m glad I didn’t.
Guido poured a hazy brownish orange with a frothy but thinnish head. Very sweet fruity smells, raisin and other assorted dark fruit. The flavor is really amazing. Very sweet and fruity, with raisins and dark plum but the noble hops are there too to provide a bit of balance. Lots of spicy, yeast flavors too with a touch of alcohol burn. It’s sweet but not cloying. Very unique and very tasty.
2.4Bottle. An unclear, orange-golden beer almost without any head. Just some off-white bubbles floating around. The aroma is sourish, almost vinegar-like. The flavor is a little bit better, with more evident fruityness and a touch of spices. There’s also some bitterness towards the end. Medium body, almost astringent. A refreshing beer, but not very good. 091230
3.1Bottle. Amber colour with an off-white head. Aroma is yeast, caramel, spices, honey, malt. Flavour is honey, caramel, spices, oxidation, fruit, malt. Medium body. Nice/ OK beer.
3.5Got a bottle here that is non-standard: Some very sticky wort (?) dried & running down down the side of the bottle. Upon opening the dark sticky stuff is coating the inside of the mouth of the bottle. Poured a huge tan head that mostly settles down and some lace. Color is one of the more clear beers of this brewery, but still a bit hazy dark amber with little bits of very dark sediment. Aroma is malty, aromatic dark ripe fruit, yeast. Taste is like aroma. Good body and carbonation. Finish is raisins, malt, yeast, sweet, nice, and of medium length.
3.5Bottle from Bier Stein, purchased by Ty. Poured a golden, honey-like color with a decent 1/2" head and some solid lacing. The first whiff was an interesting melange of honey, raisins, figs, candi sugar, some caramel malt. Flavor was also big on the fruitier side, with the raisins again playing a major role with the honey and and some fainter caramel notes coming through as well. Solid effort, would drink again especially since it was different from the norm of the style.
3.8Muddy brown pour. Nose and taste of plums, raisins, sweet beet sugar, honey and dried dates. Slight hint of alcohol. A very pleasant drink all around.
3.5330ml Bottle: Gusher! Aroma of malt, yeast, light dust, light caramel, slight raisin, and some must. Poured brown in color with a huge, 5/6 of the glass, loose, tan head that diminished but lasted throughout. Cloudy. Not sparkling. Full of tiny, small, and medium-sized particles throughout. Flavor is medium to heavily sweet. Tastes of malt, light cherries, light wood, slight cocoa, light hops, dust, light yeast, slight raisin, light caramel, light fruit, and some toasting. Medium to full body. Dry texture. Lively carbonation. Malt, light wood, slight raisin, and dust finish is dry. 8%ABV is completely hidden throughout.
3.6On tap at the Memphis Taproom. Pours a hazy brown with a medium thick beige head. Candy and cola on the nose, malt and plums, and a bit of lemon. Big candy and malt and plums. Chewy. Light earthy hop bitterness.
3.2Pours a hazy golden brownish yellow color. Aromas of grainy malts, yeast, and a touch of hops. Flavor was kind of bland, herbal with some sweetness.
3.7Bottle - 330ml. Hazy amber body with a lasting beige foamy head. Rich malty/hoppy aroma with grainy, yeasty, and vineous hints. Alcohol is well hidden. Strong, well balanced taste that carries plummy and yeasty notes. Ends with a decent bittersweet finish.
Paladar exquisito y final largo. Excelente. Overall: for me the most complete belgium ale/strong ale,19/20.
2.7Serving: 330 ml. bottle from Sperryville Corner Store.
As soon as I popped the cap on this one it erupted. Not the best of signs. It pours a nice amber color with an effervescent, off-white head. The head is very active but lasting. The nose is a touch sour with light notes of honey. A very light nose overall. The taste is very sweet with notes of honey, raisin, and an off tart note. It also had slight medicinal and metallic flavors. Further clues that this one might have been infected. The flavor is all out of balance and is cloyingly sweet as well. It has a somewhat rich mouthfeel but all that carbonation lightens things up a bit. The finish is lengthy and sweet. I will definitely put this on the re-rate list. Not really recommended as is.
3.6Pours a deep hazy amber color with a tan head. Aroma is raisins,
honey, caramel, a touch of brett, and sone earthy spice. Flavor is
caramel, raisins, honey, earthy, a touch of brett, and a bitter
astringent finish.
